'The Crown' is an award winning Netflix series that has won the hearts of many people around the world. Hans Zimmer wrote the theme for the main title with Rupert Gregson-Williams, from Wiltshire, composing music for the first series, joined by Lorne Balfe, a Scottish composer for series two.


I have made an arrangement for String Quartet and hope to make more for different combinations of instruments and piano in the future.

As usual my arrangement can be played by professionals for concerts, weddings and events but also tackled by young people. The key is the original one, D minor, which is easy for strings, and younger players can make use of open strings and take as many bows as they need. I have included some bowing as a guide. Most of the double stopping includes one open string but less experienced players can leave out one of the notes where necessary, especially of it is doubled by one of the other players. I have included some 'commas' in this arrangement and recommend recovering the bow and watching the leader like a hawk!

The long ?piano? sections will need lots of crescendo and decrescendo markings to sound effective. I put down some ideas, but feel free to experiment. The main thing is that they grow and decay again, to keep up the tension. Without that movement, those soft passages might sound boring, albeit the chords are gorgeous.

I have included a crescendo in the penultimate bar before each new dynamic, but ideally a long crescendo is needed between each new dynamic marking. The texture becomes gradually thicker, which will help, but I am looking forward to Capriccio Quartet recording this one as they are so good at building up excitement.

There must be a great deal of drama at letters D and O. After a massive increase in dynamic I am hoping for a ?breath? at the comma, and a very sudden softness for the chords that follow. I also like harmonics for the viola at bars 21-22, giving way to a natural note on the fourth beat of 22. I would like the harmonic in viola to be almost imperceptible as the piece closes out. I haven?t marked it as such, and I couldn?t write a ?simile? on the page without clashes of staves or an extra page. I intended it to be a harmonic to the end though.

Welcome to your new favorite chart to play with your quartet! This Cellobat arrangement of the Irish traditional tune "Whiskey In The Jar" is anything but traditional. Unlike other versions that are entirely made up of the song's melody line repeated in the V1 part over a basic accompaniment, this chart features lush harmonies, countermelodies, and octave changes, passes the melody back and forth between the violins, and intertwines original solo and fiddle breakdown sections in between the verses (these aren't too difficult to play, but seem fast and impressive enough to make your audience's jaw drop!). Rated advanced-intermediate for a handful of interesting syncopated rhythms and some fast finger work, this arrangement will be playable for students and sightreadable for professionals - only the V2 part goes beyond first position.

With its catchy hooks, sing-along-able choruses, and retro throwback feel, the song quickly became one of everyone's favorites, and now you'll be able to play it with your string quartet! This Cellobat Charts arrangement maintains the same upbeat groove and dynamic interest as the original, plus even more beautiful harmonic layers, and it's definitely just as much fun to play as it is to listen to! Playable for advanced-intermediate students and easily sightreadable for professionals, this arrangement isn't particularly difficult but does still have the tied rhythms/syncopations of the original song.

I made this for Remote Recording, so the pull-up at the end is written out rhythmically. Saves any problems arising in rehearsal/performance in real life anyway, so thought i'd leave it in!

With its detailed production and many layers of instruments, vocals, and effects, the powerful song was critically acclaimed upon its release in 2011 and ended up winning two Grammy awards. Many people have no idea how to translate this song for strings, resulting in charts that make no musical sense or "abridged" versions that just repeat the first minute and call it a day. This powerful ballad from hit movie The Greatest Showman is the sixth song on the soundtrack album, recorded by The Voice contestant Loren Allred. This arrangement has been transposed up a semitone to A major to make it a little more string-friendly, and begins with a cello melody.

"As Long As You Love Me" was the second single from the Backstreet Boys' very first album. Released in 1997, the song soon became one of the band's biggest hits and is now considered one of their signature songs. It was impossible not to know this song back then, and it has since become a classic throwback song for the millennial generation! Maintaining the fun upbeat groove, layers of harmonies, passionate melody lines, and dynamic contrasts of the original, this arrangement for string quartet is just as much fun to play as it is to listen to, and it's sure to get everybody singing along!
