Published by Lorento Golofeev (A0.529234). The first carol in the medley is We Three Kings of Orient Are, written by John Henry Hopkins Jr. in 1857. It is followed by Away In a Manger. There are 2 music settings for the text; the one used in the medley is by James Murray (1887). The last piece, Go Tell It on the Mountain, is an African-American spiritual, and is considered a Christmas carol because of the lyrics celebrating the birth of Jesus. The song was compiled by John Wesley Work Jr. around 1865. The medley is designed to be played as one piece with transitions between the carols. However, I also introduced alternate endings so every carol can be played as a stand alone piece if desired. The running time of this medley is around 5 min 20 sec. All of my arrangements include bowings, dynamics and precise articulation for easier sight-reading. Many more arrangements, both pop and classical, are available for purchase. It was written in reply to the Vietnam War riots at the Democrat National Convention in Chicago on August 29, 1968. It was carried live on television at that time. The reason why I did this was because the news is predicting a repeat at the Democrat National Convention this year (2024). The DNC just happens to be in Chicago again and the riots are bring predicted, again, against a war, the Israeli-Hamas war. I am hoping this arrangement will help remind people of those days and, hopefully, stop the prediction. In the original key from the band Chicago's first double lp Chicago Transit Authority. It was the second song on the 4th side, following Prologue. Both Prologue and Someday used actual audio from the riots. Duration = 4:25. Brahms's Prelude and Fugue in A Minor was composed in 1856 when Brahms was intensively studying counterpoint and the organ. The work consists of a prelude and a fugue, a common form for organ compositions at the time. This structure allowed Brahms to showcase his mastery of free-flowing, improvisatory writing and strict contrapuntal techniques. The fugue subject features a distinctive head motive of two punctuating chords, a unifying device throughout the movement. Brahms incorporates fugal procedures not just in the fugue section but also in the transitional and developmental sections of the work, blending fugal and sonata-form elements. This foreshadows his later compositions' sophisticated integration of counterpoint and large-scale form. The Prelude and Fugue WoO 9 is an important early example of Brahms's organ works, which frame his entire compositional output. It demonstrates his mastery of the organ medium and his development as a composer during this formative period.
