Ange Fl�gier was a French composer and painter who was born on February 25, 1846 at Marseille et died on Octobre 8, 1927 in Martigues. Fl�gier is principally known as havng composed the famous song for bass and orchestra ?Le Cor?, but he also wronte more than 300 works for piano, (including a concerto), many songs, an op�ra-comique ?Fatima, the oratoria Ossian and many chamber works, including the first ?dixtuor? for wind quintet and string quintet.

The original literary source for Die Fledermaus was Das Gef�ngnis (The Prison), a farce by German playwright Julius Roderich Benedix that premiered in Berlin in 1851. On 10 September 1872, a three-act French vaudeville play by Henri Meilhac and Ludovic Hal�vy, Le R�veillon, loosely based on the Benedix farce, opened at the Th��tre du Palais-Royal. Meilhac and Hal�vy had provided several successful libretti for Offenbach and Le R�veillon later formed the basis for the 1926 silent film So This Is Paris, directed by Ernst Lubitsch.

Debussy definitely wrote lovely compositions. Here are three short pieces arranged for clarinet quartet (4 Bb clarinets).
