Choral Choir,Choral (SATB) - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1323225 Composed by Cornish folk tune. Arranged by Todd Marchand. Advent,Christmas,Folk,Holiday,Sacred. 10 pages. Con Spirito Music #911489. Published by Con Spirito Music (A0.1323225). “God Rest Ye Merry, Gentlemen†is an English traditional carol dating, perhaps, to the 16th or 17th century. A manuscript, ca. 1650, contains a version with the first line, “Sit you merry gentlemen†and the refrain, “O tidings of comfort and joy.†The earliest known printed edition of the carol is a London broadsheet dated 1760, in which the first line is the familiar “God rest ye merry, gentlemen.†By the 19th century, the carol was well-known, with Charles Dickens referencing it in his 1843 novella, A Christmas Carol. The phrase “God rest you merry†in the first line is an archaic idiom meaning “God grant you peace and happiness.†William Shakespeare used the phrase “rest you merry†in his plays, “As You Like It†and “Romeo and Juliet,†both from the 1590s; but Dickens recorded the phrase as “God bless you, merry gentlemen†in A Christmas Carol. The tune adapted for use in this arrangement was at the time of its notation a wordless, nameless melody noted in 1905 by folk song collector E. Quintrell from the singing of a Mr. Boaden in Cornwall, England. The tune was sent to Lucy Broadwood, editor of the Journal of the Folk-Song Society, who decided that it fit the ballad, “The Maid in Bedlam,†and published the tune and text together. Gustav Holst later arranged the tune as Song without Words ‘I'll Love My Love’†in his Second Suite in F for Military Band, Op. 28, No. 2 (1911) and again as “I Love My Love†in his 6 Choral Folksongs, Op. 36 (1916). Set in F minor (Dorian), the tune brings a contemplative tone to the text, with the high point of the refrain being the subdominant Bb major chord on the word “joy.†The rich, dark timbre of solo clarinet (part included) on introduction, interludes, and ending adds to this tone. SATB voices (with some divisi on soprano and tenor), piano, Bb clarinet©Copyright 2023 Todd Marchand / Con Spirito Music (ASCAP). B-Flat Trumpet,Horn,Organ,Timpani,Trombone,Tuba - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1272749 Composed by Felix Mendelssohn / W.H. Cummings. Arranged by Todd Marchand. Christmas,Holiday,Sacred,Traditional. 23 pages. Con Spirito Music #864944. Published by Con Spirito Music (A0.1272749). One of the “Great Four†Anglican hymns of the 19th century, Charles Wesley’s (1707-1788) “Hark! The Herald Angels Sing†first appeared in the 1739 collection, Hymns and Sacred Poems, by Wesley and his brother John (1703-1791) under the title “Hymn for Christmas-Day.â€Based on a verse from the Gospel of Luke (“Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, good will toward men.†— 2:14), the hymn tells of an angelic host singing praises from Heaven above to Christ — the God incarnate, Savior and Redeemer of the world. George Whitefield, a fellow Anglican cleric and founder with the Wesley brothers of the evangelical movement known as Methodism, adapted the hymn and published it in his 1754 Collection of Hymns for Social Worship. Additional revisions were made by other editors, including the repetition of the opening lines, “Hark! the herald angels sing / glory to the new-born king†at the end of each stanza, as it is commonly sung today.Wesley envisioned his hymn being sung to the same tune as his “Christ the Lord is Risen Today†(published as “Hymn for Easter-Day†in Hymns and Sacred Poems). However, the tune MENDELSSOHN, an adaptation by English musician William H. Cummings (1831-1915) of music from Felix Mendelssohn’s 1840 secular cantata, Festgesang, is overwhelmingly associated with Wesley’s text today. This arrangement proceeds as follows:•  Introduction: brass, organ, timpani •  Verse 1: organ •  Verse 2: brass, timpani•  Interlude•  Verse 3: organ, brass, timpani, with alternate harmonizationIncludes full score, parts for Organ, Bb Trumpets 1-2, F Horn, Trombone, Tuba, Timpani, and reproducible bulletin insert for voices.©Copyright 2023 Todd Marchand / Con Spirito Music (ASCAP). Piano Solo - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1271034 By Jeff Bjorck. By traditional Swedish melody. Arranged by Jeff Bjorck. 19th Century,Children,Christian,Religious,Traditional. Score. 5 pages. Pure Piano Music by Jeff Bjorck #863426. Published by Pure Piano Music by Jeff Bjorck (A0.1271034). Jeff Bjorck's original solo piano arrangement of this Swedish Folk Tune appears on his album/CD, Keepsakes in the Attic. Bjorck's bridge is virtually as long as the original melody, and he weaves them together seamlessly. The lovely tune and accompanying words in English harken back to a simpler time. Whereas it has been used as a lullaby, the lyrics touch on deep themes, including the hopeful truth that “Neither life nor death shall ever from the Lord his children sever.â€.

Piano Solo - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.803279 Composed by English Folk from the 19th century. Arranged by Paul Taylor. Folk,New Age. Score. 5 pages. Paul Taylor #4356523. Published by Paul Taylor (A0.803279). This piano solo version of the folk tune, Housewife's Lament, is reminiscent of the contemporary piano style of the 90's movie,  The Piano. The rolling arpeggiated left hand provides the  intermediate pianist with an etude-like study.  The melody and lyrics (from the from the diary of a civil war-era wife), is accompanied with a contemporary harmonic language. Fingerings and chord tabs appear as well as the text for two verses and refrain, each in a different key. Intermediate pianists will benefit from this presentation of the song in two different keys to de-mystify the art of transposition. The recording of this piece was done by a 45 year-old- mother of three studying piano with the composer.

Choral Choir (SATB) - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1109057 Composed by Traditional English Carol. Arranged by Aaron Lee. 19th Century,A Cappella,Christian,Christmas,Holiday. Octavo. 10 pages. J. Aaron Lee #711601. Published by J. Aaron Lee (A0.1109057). Tracing back to the early 19th century, The Holly and the Ivy is a traditional English Christmas carol that has been arranged here for SATB choir (a cappella). Due to the somewhat acrobatic nature of this folk melody, this particular arrangement does require a somewhat extended range from each of the parts, though nothing extreme for any particular voice. This is a somewhat madrigal-like setting of the carol and would fit in with other traditional arrangements and settings. For more music from Aaron Lee, you can visit www.MusicOfLee.com.

Level 2 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1444898 Composed by Traditional. Arranged by Colin Kirkpatrick. Celtic,Folk,Historic,Irish,Multicultural,World. 20 pages. Colin Kirkpatrick Publications #1024766. Published by Colin Kirkpatrick Publications (A0.1444898). This is one of the most popular and best-loved folksongs of all time, made famous by Simon and Garfunkel, Bob Dylan and many others. The song is in the Dorian mode and thought to have originated over four hundred years ago. Scarborough (SKAH-buh-ruh) is an English coastal town in the county of Yorkshire. It was occupied by the Romans during the fourth and fifth centuries but today has become the largest holiday resort on the Yorkshire coast with a thriving fishing industry. There are many different versions of the lyrics and by the end of the 19th century, dozens of variants existed. The repeated chorus of “parsley, sage, rosemary and thyme” is significant. In olden times, these herbs had medicinal purposes. In addition, parsley was associated with comfort, sage with strength, rosemary with love and thyme with courage. The song takes the form of a melancholy dialogue between two individuals who were once lovers but now live separate lives. Each of them asks the listener to pass on a message to the other. The young man requests impossible tasks from his former lover, saying that if she can perform them, he will take her back. In return, she requests equally impossible things of him, saying she will perform her tasks when he performs his. The fact that all the tasks are impossible seems to imply that neither of them have any intention of becoming reunited. This arrangement for woodwind instruments and piano stays well within the instrumental ranges and attempts to reflect the melancholy feeling of the lyrics. The clarinet part avoids awkward movement around the break. This arrangement would make a splendid encore piece for a recital.

It would make an excellent addition to a woodwind recital.

Choral Choir,Choral (SATB) - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.955886 Composed by Traditional 19th century English Shanty. Arranged by Scott S. Stewart. Contemporary,Folk. 18 pages. Scott S. Stewart #6673463. Published by Scott S. Stewart (A0.955886). Bound for the Rio Grande was one of the favorite sea shanties among outward bound British and American ships during the 19th century. And the Rio Grande referred to in this song is that one in the southernmost part of Brazil known as Rio Grande do Sul. A song handed down through oral (aural) means by the rough and tough salty sailors from the great days of sail produced many variations to text, temperament and purpose. Yet the common denominator in all versions is saying good-bye to loved ones left behind in order to pursue the dreams of adventure and riches. This rollicking setting is scored for 4-part SATB (optional bass solo) ensemble with piano accompaniment. Performance time: 4:08+-

Choral Choir,Choral,SATB Chorus - Level 1 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1449955 Composed by Stephen Foster. Arranged by Thomas G Degan. 19th Century,A Cappella,Early Music,Folk,Historic. 2 pages. Thomas Degan #1029685. Published by Thomas Degan (A0.1449955). Ring, Ring de Banjo is a minstrel song written in 1851. The song's words and music are from Stephen Foster. THIS ARRANGEMENT HAS BEEN UPDATED TO INCLUDE CONTEMPORARY ENGLISH AND DOES NOT INCLUDE REFERENCES TO SLAVERY OR DEROGATORY RACIAL TERMS.The song, (originally) written to mimic the dialect of Black people in the Southern United States, is about a newly-freed slave who wishes to come back to his master's plantation. As his old master is dying, the singer plays the banjo on his old master's deathbed until he dies. It is one of minstrelsy's most explicit evocations of the potentially violent relationship in slavery between master and slave and inspired a number of imitators, including the abolitionist Harriet Beecher Stowe. -Wikipedia.

English Horn,Piano - Level 1 - Digital Download SKU: A0.548740 By Cat Stevens. By Cat Stevens. Arranged by James M. Guthrie, ASCAP. Rock. Score and part. 11 pages. Jmsgu3 #3415205. Published by jmsgu3 (A0.548740). Very strong arrangement for Easter. Duration: 2:48. 84 ms. Score: 7 pg. Solo part 1 pg. piano part 3 pg. Morning Has Broken is a popular and well-known Christian hymn first published in 1931. It has words by English author Eleanor Farjeon and was inspired by the village of Alfriston in East Sussex, then set to a traditional Scottish Gaelic tune known as Bunessan [1] (it shares this tune with the 19th century Christmas Carol Child in the Manger[2]). It is often sung in children's services and in Funeral services.[3] English pop musician and folk singer Cat Stevens included a version on his 1971 album Teaser and the Firecat. The song became identified with Stevens due to the popularity of this recording. It reached number six on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100, number one on the U.S. easy listening chartin 1972,[4] and number four on the Canadian RPM Magazine charts. The hymn originally appeared in the second edition of Songs of Praise (published in 1931), to the tune Bunessan, composed in the Scottish Islands. In Songs of Praise Discussed, the editor, Percy Dearmer, explains that as there was need for a hymn to give thanks for each day, English poet and children's author Eleanor Farjeon had been asked to make a poem to fit the lovely Scottish tune. A slight variation on the original hymn, also written by Eleanor Farjeon, can be found in the form of a poem contributed to the anthology Children's Bells, under Farjeon's new title, A Morning Song (For the First Day of Spring), published by Oxford University Press in 1957. The song is noted in 9/4 time but with a 3/4 feel. Bunessan had been found in L. McBean's Songs and Hymns of the Gael, published in 1900.[5] Before Farjeon's words, the tune was used as a Christmas carol, which began Child in the manger, Infant of Mary, translated from the Scottish Gaelic lyrics written by Mary MacDonald. The English-language Roman Catholic hymnal also uses the tune for the James Quinn hymns, Christ Be Beside Me and This Day God Gives Me, both of which were adapted from the traditional Irish hymn St. Patrick's Breastplate. Another Christian hymn, Baptized In Water, borrows the tune. -Wikipedia
