Piano Solo - Level 4 - SKU: A0.1076513 By Ethan Lazarus. By Ethan Lazarus. Classical,Contemporary,Jazz. Score. 6 pages. Ethan Lazarus #680671. Published by Ethan Lazarus (A0.1076513). I have always been a huge fan of Frédéric Chopin, and in particular, his Nocturnes for solo piano. I believe these redefined what classical piano was capable of. However, he never wrote one in the key of C Sharp Major. While I realize I will never possess the skill of one of the best composers of all time, I intended this piece to be reminiscent of his style. It starts with a beautiful flowing left hand in triplets, with lots of modal changes and jazzy chord substitutions before transitioning to a middle passage in 3/4. You will love this beautiful Nocturne in C# Major.

Piano Solo - Level 3 - SKU: A0.1255067 By Grant Horsley. By Grant Horsley. Arranged by Grant Horsley. Classical,Contemporary,Film/TV,Romantic Period,Wedding. Score. 6 pages. Grant Horsley #848660. Published by Grant Horsley (A0.1255067). The name Nocturne (meaning of the night) was originally an ensemble piece in the 18th century in several movements used for for evening parties. Later In the 19thc it's one movement form, it was adopted by John Field and later popularised by Chopin. It generally has a tranquil lyrical melody and is very romantic and expressive.I have tried to keep these later elements in this Nocturne. It is written in the key of C minor it has a very gentle opening with harmonies evolving around a cycle of 5th's in places. The piece has three definite sections- the lyrical melody to begin with, a middle section building to a climax before a return to the 1st section. This is followed by a transitional contrasting section (poco piu mosso) wandering through a few keys to settle on an inner pedal tonic note chime. Gentle chords restore the opening once more- this opening theme climaxes towards the end and a gentle reflection of the opening bars concludes the piece. It is 4 mins 20 in length. It has been set to intermediate level, but the whole score is on the youtube link for you to assess suitability. Versions for Flute Duet, Flute and Clarinet Duet and Violin Duet are also available.

These evocations of the night explore the rich sonorities of nocturnal thought and emotion outside the realm of conscious awareness. Illuminating multiple perspectives simultaneously on a single theme characterizes my solo piano music. Romantic gestures, playful interludes, and exuberant sonorities make up these short pieces. Christopher Neil, composed Nine Haiku reflecting on each of the nine nocturnes. Our collaboration has informed the interpretation and performance of these nine miniatures. The words and music embark the listener on a journey that embraces darkness leading the listener to a discovery of inspired endurance. WGN www.thecomposerstudio.com www.williamneil.net

The following describes the inspiration for the piece: 'Nocturne was inspired by recent late-night strolls through Venice, the rippling light on the canals, the intrigue of each twist and turn when the city is in darkness. The city of Vivaldi, a city of a thousand church bells'. The central section of the piece quotes the famous melody from Movement No.2 of Vivaldi's 'Winter' from the Four Seasons.

As a pianist i was always in love with the enormous beauty and pianistic brilliance of Chopin! That influence is certainly all over this composition but it's style is a particular blend of classical and jazz approaches. The range of accent and syncopation in the left hand supports the emotional, syncopated development in the right hand. Certainly Chopinesque, but definitely contemporary!

This whimsical nocturne narrates a night shift worker who is going through the grind as worker is slowly going insane by the constant late night shifts that has been piling up due company's hiring freeze (I know, right?). It is a performative piece for a nice laugh, for kicks and giggles, and just for good practice fun.The piece starts in C minor progression and then somewhat modulates in the piece to depict the different situation the worker is (and the feelings during the stages of grief the worker is going through) before ending back into the original chord to depict the never ending night shift again and again... you know the drift..Arranged for: Solo PianoLevel: Intermediate and above.

Flute,Piano - Level 3 - SKU: A0.549473 Composed by Alexander Scriabin. Arranged by James M. Guthrie, ASCAP. Concert,Instructional,Romantic Period,Sacred,Standards. Score and part. 12 pages. Jmsgu3 #3499833. Published by jmsgu3 (A0.549473). Score: 8 pages, solo part: 2 pages, piano part: 2 pages. Duration: 3:10. An introspective and meditative work with a lot of dynamic and phrasing nuance. Works well for church meditations or recital encores.BackgroundOp.11/2 Alto Clarinet version. First of all, Scriabin composed mostly for the solo piano and also the orchestra. This is probably because he was a gifted pianist and therefore certainly appreciated the piano. Scriabin grew up in the late Romantic period, consequently, he was fond of the great piano masters of the time. As a result, he wrote his first noteworthy compositions in the manner of Chopin and Liszt.FormsLikewise, Scriabin used many of the same forms as Chopin. These certainly include the étude, prelude, nocturne, and even the mazurka. In contrast, as he developed his own sense of style his music became more and more unusual. So, the last five of his Piano Sonatas do not have a key signature and therefore lean towards atonality.PhilosophyScriabin also developed a keen interest in philosophy and likewise poetry. He was above all particularly fascinated by Nietzsche, Delville, and Blavatsky. Consequently, he finally established his own ideas about metaphysics and certainly mysticism. Scriabin consequently advanced theories about the relationship between color and musical keys.SynesthesiaHe also may have experienced a condition called synesthesia where he could probably sense a response created from a different stimulus. Therefore, it was almost as if he could see music and hear colors. Scriabin, therefore, arranged the colors in a circle similar to the circle-of-fifths and assigned each key area a color. Finally, he assigned the key of C to the color red, while the key of G was orange. Similarly, he assigned D to yellow, A to green, and so forth. Strangely, he did not differentiate between major and minor key colors. MultimediaHence, his ability to translate colors into music certainly gave Scriabin a most noteworthy interest in creating multimedia events. Furthermore, He designed his biggest work, the Mysterium, to last an entire week. Even more, Scriabin made plans not only for music, but also colored lights, incense, and dancing. He designed the performance to occur in the foothills of the Himalaya mountains. The Mysterium was never performed, and only sketches of the work remain.Modern PerformancesIn modern times, we often experience performances of Scriabin’s most famous completed works accompanied by colored laser lights and incense. These are the Poem of Ecstasy (completed in 1908) and the Poem of Fire (completed in 1910). The lighting effects for these early performances were accomplished by the clavier à lumiéres. It was a keyboard instrument that projected colored light onto a screen.
