Ran Whitley has composed a cute, pithy work, Meter Quest for Brass Quintet. The work of about 4.5 minutes in length takes the players through a number of mixed-meters such as 10/8, 5/8 and 7/8. The intuitive melody makes the music flow without any awkwardness....so this is a fun piece to perform! This is a great work to train young performers in mixed-meters. The work is appropriate for moderately advanced performers and is scored for a standard brass quintet of 2 Trumpets in B-flat, Horn, Trombone and Tuba.
