Piano Trio - Level 2 - SKU: A0.1474945 Composed by Traditional. Arranged by Colin Kirkpatrick. Folk,Historic,Traditional. 17 pages. Colin Kirkpatrick Publications #1052537. Published by Colin Kirkpatrick Publications (A0.1474945). This is one of the most popular and best-loved folksongs of all time, made famous by Simon and Garfunkel, Bob Dylan and many others. The song is in the Dorian mode and thought to have originated over four hundred years ago. Scarborough (SKAH-buh-ruh) is an English coastal town in the county of Yorkshire. It was occupied by the Romans during the fourth and fifth centuries but today has become the largest holiday resort on the Yorkshire coast with a thriving fishing industry. There are many different versions of the lyrics and by the end of the 19th century, dozens of variants existed. The repeated chorus of “parsley, sage, rosemary and thyme” is significant. In olden times, these herbs had medicinal purposes. In addition, parsley was associated with comfort, sage with strength, rosemary with love and thyme with courage. The song takes the form of a melancholy dialogue between two individuals who were once lovers but now live separate lives. Each of them asks the listener to pass on a message to the other. The young man requests impossible tasks from his former lover, saying that if she can perform them, he will take her back. In return, she requests equally impossible things of him, saying she will perform her tasks when he performs his. The fact that all the tasks are impossible seems to imply that neither of them have any intention of becoming reunited. This arrangement stays well within the instrumental ranges and attempts to reflect the melancholy feeling of the lyrics. The violin top note is E6 (the E above the treble staff) and the cello top note is G4 (the G above the bass staff). This arrangement would make a splendid encore piece for a recital.

Brass Ensemble Horn - Level 3 - SKU: A0.979540 Composed by Traditional English Folk Song. Arranged by Lisa Lenke Sousa. Classical,Contemporary,Folk,Renaissance. Score and parts. 10 pages. Lisa Lenke Sousa #3531851. Published by Lisa Lenke Sousa (A0.979540). Written and sung by bards in the Middle Ages throughout the English countryside, Scarborough Fair has its origins as far back as 1253 during the reign of King Henry the VIII. During that year, the King proclaimed that there would be a fair in the Yorkshire town of Scarborough and that fair held during August until September. In the folk song, a man asks someone if they are going to the festival in Scarborough. If they are, he asks them to find a former love of his to tell her to perform a series of impossible tasks. Some of these tasks include making him a shirt without seams and washing it in a well without water. If she completed these tasks, she would win his affections once more. The lyrics of this ballad also include the four herbs parsley, sage, rosemary, and thyme. More than just mere words, these herbs serve a purpose. Parsley used to treat indigestion. Sage is a symbol of strength. Rosemary represents love and faithfulness, and thyme represents courage.

Choral Choir (SAT) - Level 2 - SKU: A0.1274473 Composed by Traditional. Arranged by Colin Kirkpatrick. Contest,Festival,Folk,Multicultural,World. Octavo. 10 pages. Colin Kirkpatrick Publications #866616. Published by Colin Kirkpatrick Publications (A0.1274473). This is one of the most popular and best-loved folksongs of all time, made famous by Simon and Garfunkel, Bob Dylan and many others. The song is thought to have originated over four hundred years ago. Scarborough Fair is in the Dorian mode and a song suitable for any happy occasion. Its celebratory quality would make it ideal for holidays, end-of-semester concerts, weddings or folk music events. There are many different versions of the lyrics and by the end of the 19th century, dozens of variants existed. In this arrangement, four of the most popular verses have been used. The repeated chorus of “parsley, sage, rosemary and thyme†is significant. In olden times, these herbs had medicinal purposes. In addition, parsley was associated with comfort, sage with strength, rosemary with love and thyme with courage. Scarborough (SKAH-buh-ruh) is an English coastal town in the county of Yorkshire. It was occupied by the Romans during the fourth and fifth centuries but today has become the largest holiday resort on the Yorkshire coast with a thriving fishing industry. In this arrangement, each section of the choir shares the melody and the voice parts avoid difficult leaps. All the vocal parts are safely within normal range. Your choir is sure to enjoy singing this rewarding arrangement. This is scored for SAT choir and ideal for high school or college use where there are often fewer lower voices. The vocal ranges are Soprano 1: D4-E5; Alto: A3 (one note)-E5 (one note); Tenor: C3-D4.

Piano Solo - Level 3 - SKU: A0.1512874 Composed by Phil Dickson. 21st Century,Contemporary. Score. 40 pages. Pitch Perfect Music Services #1087816. Published by Pitch Perfect Music Services (A0.1512874). Phil Dickson is a Scot, living in Yorkshire, who has been composing light classical style piano pieces for many years. His musical idols include John Field, Chopin, Mozart, Gershwin, The Beatles and Hoagy Carmichael. This is Phil’s first album, called ‘Archipelago’. It was recorded, produced and mixed at John Parr’s (famed for ‘St Elmo’s Fire’ and numerous pop songs and movie soundtracks in the ‘80s and ‘90s) intimate studio ‘Somewhere in Yorkshire’. Each of the 9 tracks has its own distinctive character but there is a clear, unique signature across all of the compositions. In CD form, the album is ideal to have playing in the room, or the car, but equally merits being listened to with intent as each piece has it’s own narrative. The title track ‘Archipelago’ was inspired by the glorious islands off the coast of Argyle – which is definitely one of the most beautiful areas in the world. Each track has its own backstory, and Phil would be very happy to relate them to any musician or listener who would like to find out more. Phil can be reached directly on his YouTube Channel - Phil's Piano Pieces - YouTube - by posting a message in the comments sections. At the time of the release of this album, the unprovoked war in Ukraine is raging and there are so many innocent people and children suffering due to the horrific atrocities inflicted upon them from the Kremlin in Russia – so for each sale made from this CD and/or music book, £3 will be donated to the Disaster Emergency Committee, so each unit sold will deliver £3 to help and support the Ukrainian families in need during this appalling crisis. This is from both the composer (Phil) and Pitch Perfect Music Services/DOTS.(Phil happens to be 3rd generation Ukrainian from his father’s side of the family. Originally the family name was ‘Dishkin’.) All of Phil’s compositions are very accessible, easy and very enjoyable to listen to, and they have been written to be played by pianists at the intermediary level.More information is available here: https://www.dicksontraining.com/archipelago-album.php.

Concert Band - Level 2 - SKU: A0.1308677 Composed by Ernest Farrar. Arranged by John Ivor Holland. 20th Century,Classical,Patriotic. Score and Parts. 54 pages. John Ivor Holland #897917. Published by John Ivor Holland (A0.1308677). Ernest Farrar (1885-1918) was a talented composer, born in London but raised in Yorkshire, who was deprived of a long and storied career by his untimely death during World War I. He enlisted in 1915 and gained a commission as 2nd Lieutenant in February 1918. At the suggestion of Charles Villiers Stanford and Ralph Vaughan Williams, he composed 'Heroic Elegy' (op. 36) in 1918 while in service, and conducted its first performance on 3 July 1918 while on leave. Farrar was summoned to France just over two months later and was tragically killed by machine gunfire at the Battle of Ephey Ronssoy later than month. The simple dedication at the top of the score reads To Soldiers, making his final composition even more poignant. A sombre, but somehow joyful piece that wouldn't be out of place in any military or civic memorial event.
