Carol Of The Bells<br> <br> Album & Songbook review by: Kathy Parsons (MainlyPiano.com):<br> <br> I have discovered a real wealth of great solo piano Christmas CDs this year! Isadar’s In Search For the Meaning of Christmas definitely falls into this category! Thoughtful, introspective, and a bit moody, Isadar’s arrangements are true to the carols (with some small melody changes in “Bring a Torch” and “Carol of the Bells” that bother me just a little) and still seem very personal. “Bring a Torch”, “The Holly and the Ivy”, and “I Saw Three Ships” are given a lighthearted, joyful treatment. “Star of Wonder (We Three Kings)”, “What Child Is This?”, “The Coventry Carol”, and “Sing We Now of Christmas” are all minor, somber, reverent pieces, and all four are given loving arrangements that keep the dark, mysterious nature of the songs and reflect Isadar’s own sensibilities. “Carol of the Bells” and Isadar's take on Liz Story’s arrangement of “Greensleeves” are energetic without losing all abandon. “Silent Night” and “It Came Upon a Midnight Clear” present us with a very cold, deep solitude - both feel like late night with moonlight reflecting off the snow. Both are moody, but very beautifully so. George Winston’s “December” is one of my all-time favorite holiday albums, and I feel In Search For the Meaning of Christmas holds up exceptionally well next to it. This is an excellent collection of Christmas music, and I highly recommend it!<br> <br> In Search For the Meaning of Christmas is the companion songbook to Isadar’s 1999 solo piano release by the same name. Meticulously transcribed note-for-note by David Shenton of New York Music Publishing, the music is faithful to the recording in every way (except for the pianist - YOU!). The scores are clear, concise, and easy to read, and also include chord indications for improvisation or the use of instruments other than or in addition to the piano. Isadar’s arrangements cover a whole range of emotions, from very dark and somber to joyful and buoyant. All of the pieces from the CD are here, including Isadar’s homage to Liz Story and her beautiful version of “Greensleeves.” My personal favorites of the eleven songs in this book are the bright and cheerful “Bring A Torch,” “What Child Is This?”, “Greensleeves,” the darkly gorgeous “The Coventry Carol,” and “Sing We Now of Christmas.” Other titles that I really like are “Children Go Where I Send Thee/The Holly and the Ivy,” “Star of Wonder (We Three Kings)," “Carol of the Bells,” and the effervescent “Three Ships.” “Silent” (Silent Night) and “Midnight” (It Came Upon a Midnight Clear) are a bit too dark for my own holiday tastes, but are interesting and very personal arrangements. Choral Choir (Unison) - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.727123 Composed by Carol Troutman Wiggins [ASCAP], Mary White Pustrom. Christmas,Contemporary,Holiday,Pop,Singer/Songwriter. Octavo. 11 pages. Carol Troutman Wiggins #2907289. Published by Carol Troutman Wiggins (A0.727123). The Christmas WishVocal Solo for AltoWould you like a different kind of Christmas wish this year? Here it is!This song is based on the poem Christmas Wishes written by contemporary author and poet Mary White Pustrom. Mary wrote many poems with the theme of Christmas, including what she thought people should wish for at Christmas. While so many adults wish for a new car, a sparkling diamond ring, or celebrating with a nice vacation in the tropics, she believes that Christmas wishes should be taken a step further by considering the wishes and needs of others more so than our own. In her poem Christmas Wishes, her desire for reaching out to others and granting them their wishes for the simple things in life take on great meaning: Christmas Wishes by Mary White Pustrom Now that Christmas is drawing near I cannot help but seeAll the poor and needy people who are reaching out to me. It seems that everywhere I look there is a need to fill; I feel so inadequate when their wishes I can't fill. Among the lights and decorations, there is hunger and despair, Faces filled with sadness while bright carols fill the air; Little children who are cold and hungry wait for Santa Claus, Wishing that he would bring them food, for that's a worthy cause. Others laughing, smiling, singing - so completely unaware Of all the pain and suffering that's around them everywhere; They wish for generosity in our thoughts, time, and deeds, And wish that here at Christmas time, someone could fill their needs. My wish is that we reach out to our sisters and our brothers, Who depend on us for kindness from one to another; Fill our hearts with Christmas cheer, and teach us how to share, So that Christmas wishes will be fulfilled all throughout the year. It sounds like she might have the right idea. At this time of year, it is so easy to get caught up in buying and receiving presents, the lights, and the Christmas tree, without considering the simple needs of others. Maybe this year, these simple wishes will come true for some: · Sick little children to be healed · Homeless people and children to find a family · For the less fortunate to have enough food, clothing, shelter, and shoes on their feet · That no one spends Christmas lonely and alone, and spent the way it should be, with loving family and friends. Most of all, wish that by caring for one another, Christmas wishes would come true all year long. ~ Carol Troutman Wiggins

Guitar,Piano,Vocal,Voice - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.935513 Composed by Shaun Parry. A Cappella,Christian,Christmas,Traditional. Score. 7 pages. MusicforMillions #4995115. Published by MusicforMillions (A0.935513). Written in the style of classic Christmas carols with fun, memorable melody and lyrics, this new Christmas song will quickly become a part of your caroling tradition. By and large, Christmas music is either sacred or secular -- about Jesus, Mary, the shepherds and angels or about presents and parties and mistletoe. We live them both simultaneously. This carol represents that, with the first verse being a patter of Christmas excitement and the second more lyrical focusing on the advent of the Savior. Then, just as in life, they are sung together, complimenting each other. We end in unison with a glorious and memorable refrain Nativity mangers make friends out of strangers with peace on earth, good will to all men. This song has the potential to become a regular part of Christmas carol canon sung by millions around the world.* Perfect for school or church Christmas concerts. * Great for families around the fireplace or out caroling.* Bells/Chimes add a beautiful touch but it can also be performed with just piano and voices or even a capella. I have even enjoyed singing to guitar or ukulele.* Written to be sung by two groups, however, there is a cut version (explained in print) that does not require splitting. It can be sung straight through without overlapping the verses.* Some harmony parts are indicated in the vocal line. Of course you can sing the melody in unison all the way through, but there are ample opportunities to break out into fun 2,3 and (in some places) 4-part harmonies. Up to you.You can find me at @the_shaunparry or www.shaunparry.com

Merry Christmas! Here’s how to play the famous Christmas carol “We Three Kings†(also known as We Three Kings of Orient Are or The Quest of the Magi) on piano. With these easy, beautiful, accurate piano sheets, you can play “We Three Kings†on piano - you can use this version to play the song by yourself on piano, accompany singers, or sing along yourself!“We Three Kings of Orient Are†is a traditional Christmas carol. Words and music were written by the American clergyman John Henry Hopkins Jr. for a Christmas pageant in 1857. Note that I have two versions available in this library: A very easy one, and one which is a bit more challenging. Enjoy! Here are the full lyrics to the Christmas carol: “We three kings of Orient are;Bearing gifts we traverse afar,Field and fountain, moor and mountain,Following yonder starRefrain:O star of wonder, star of night,Star with royal beauty bright,Westward leading, still proceeding,Guide us to thy perfect light.Born a King on Bethlehem’s plainGold I bring to crown Him again,King forever, ceasing never,Over us all to reign.RefrainFrankincense to offer have I;Incense owns a Deity nigh;Prayer and praising, all men raising,Worship Him God Most High.RefrainMyrrh is mine, its bitter perfumeBreathes a life of gathering gloom;Sorrowing, sighing, bleeding, dying,Sealed in the stone cold tomb.RefrainGlorious now behold Him arise;King and God and sacrifice;Alleluia!, Alleluia!,Peals through the Earth and skies.Refrainâ€

Folk Songs For Classical Guitar - Volume 15 (Songs 379-405)

Acoustic Guitar,Instrumental Solo - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1153433 Composed by Traditional/Anonymous. Arranged by Socrates Arvanitakis. Classical,Early Music,Folk,Traditional. Individual part. 44 pages. Socrates Arvanitakis #753694. Published by Socrates Arvanitakis (A0.1153433). This is the fifteenth volume of an extensive collection of folk songs arranged for the classical guitar mostly in two-part counterpoint. The arrangements are of moderate difficulty and the aims of this publication are to familiarise, entertain and educate guitarists (and other musicians) with a melodic repertoire of lasting aesthetic value, under the light of contrapuntal treatment. The thirty five volumes of this collection can certainly be printed on paper if so desired and there are a few pages in each volume, either blank or with photographs of various musicians, which can be inserted at will in any place for the correct ordering of left and right hand pages so that page turns can be avoided. The principle of avoiding page turns has been maintained in all volumes, but this edition is also designed with mobile electronic devices in mind such as tablets etc, using the environment and facilities of a score reading application, towards a paperless world, at least in music. Therefore the size of the staves is bigger than usual for ease of reading on a small screen but not big enough to exceed the limit of a two-page view. Active internal links for navigating from thematic indexes to particular songs and back to indexes have been added, and also external internet links to sites that give further information for the 945 songs of this first collection for classical guitar.Volume 15 (Songs 379-405)Green Grow the Rushes ohGreen mossy banks of the LeaGreen Willow Tree (The)Greenland Fishery (The)GreensleevesGresford Disaster (The)Grey Cock or The Lover’s Ghost (The)Grey Selkie 1 (The)Grigol CridheGround for the FloorGuise O’ ToughGuy Fawkes (Drum March For)Gypsy DaveyHampshire Mummers’ Christmas CarolHandsome Butcher (the)Hard Times of Old EnglandHark, hark, let us behold (Russell)Hark, Shepherds Hark, The Angels SingHarvest Song (Wiltshire)He Called for a CandleHe That Will Not Merry Merry BeHeavenly Child (The)Help Me O LordHenry MartinHenry, My SonHere Come the NavviesHere we come a-wassailing

Piano Solo - Level 2 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1502425 By Gloria Gaynor. By Harry Simeone, Henry Onorati, and Katherine K. Davis. Arranged by Justin K. Reeve. Christmas,Holiday,New Age. Score. 3 pages. Justin Kenlon Reeve #1078230. Published by Justin Kenlon Reeve (A0.1502425). “Little Drummer Boy,” originally titled “Carol of the Drum,” is based on a traditional Czech carol. In 1957, Henry Onorati arranged the song for a recording by the Jack Halloran Singers, but it was not released in time for Christmas. The next year, Harry Simeone was looking for material to create a Christmas album, and Onorati introduced him to the “Carol of the Drum.” Simeone re-arranged the song, retitled it “The Little Drummer Boy,” and recorded it with the Harry Simeone Chorale on the album Sing We Now of Christmas. The song is the story of a young shepherd boy who joins the procession of the wise men and other humble admirers to the Savior’s manger. When the boy reaches the gathering, others present gifts, but all the boy can afford is his gift of making music on his drum. Over 200 versions of this song in at least seven languages have been written. In September 1977, an additional track was recorded for Bing Crosby’s Merrie Olde Christmas television special, performed by Crosby and David Bowie. According to co-writer Ian Fraser, Bowie balked at singing “Little Drummer Boy.” “I hate this song. Is there something else I could sing?” Fraser recalls Bowie telling him. Fraser, along with songwriter Larry Grossman and the special’s scriptwriter, Buz Kohan, then wrote the “Peace on Earth” lyrics as a counterpoint to “Little Drummer Boy.” Crosby performed “Little Drummer Boy,” while Bowie sang the new tune “Peace on Earth,” which they reportedly performed after less than an hour of rehearsal. Crosby never lived to see his performance on television, as he died a month after recording. The show aired in November 1977 on CBS.

Guitar,Piano,Vocal,Voice - Level 2 - Digital Download SKU: A0.801677 Composed by Connie Boss. Celtic,Christmas,Irish,Sacred. Score. 120 pages. Connie Boss #6414353. Published by Connie Boss (A0.801677). This lovely cantata is about how we gather together in song to celebrate the birth of Jesus. It has a Celtic feel and the songs are from several different countries - United States, Ireland, England, France, Germany, Scotland, Italy. There are 8 songs included, 2 originals, 2 medleys and 4 songs that you know and love included also. All of the songs are in SATB with an (optional) accent instrument part (choice of flute, violin or cello - parts included at the end of each score) - the score has the flute part so you can see where the accent instrument fits into the score. A simple piano part is included in each score. The voices and accent instruments help to complete the entire piece. You can also purchase individual songs on here separately if you choose to not purchase the whole cantata. However, it is a bargain to purchase the cantata. There are narration parts before each song that give a little history of the song. You can opt out of using them if desired. The titles of the songs are: 1. Baby, Jesus, Was Born Unto This Earth. (original) 2. Christ Child's Lullaby. 3. Bring a Torch Jeanette, Isabella. 4. Christmas Carols - Coventry and Wexford. 5. Good Christian Men Rejoice. 6. O Come Let Us Adore Him, Christ the Lord - (In the Bleak Midwinter, Gesu Bambino, The Snow Lay on the Ground) 7. Peace on Earth (original) 8. Sing We Now of Christmas. Take a little time to listen to the mp3 attached. It has computer voices, but you can get an idea of what it is supposed to sound like. It also has one of the instrument parts as a sample and then the piano on each one. Any questions, please email me at cdboss@cvalley.net. I'm glad to work with you. This is my 5th cantata and most recent one. You can purchase the other 4 on here - check them out. You can also purchase in book form any of these on Amazon. I have background accompaniment to these songs. If you purchase a book and would like them, please email me with proof of purchase and I will email them back to you. .

There is narration before each song.1. Ave Maria Christmas version - This song has the lyrics Ave Maria throughout - which means Hail Mary. Some of the lyrics are a translation of the original Ave Maria. The rest of the lyrics are written for Christmas. The melody is the same as Ave Maria. It is intended for a soloist with duet harmonies. 2. A Little Baby - original song is written for duet. A Little Baby in a stall - A Little Baby oh so small - A Little baby born for all - A Little Baby3. Tabitha Beaven #1079020. Published by Tabitha Beaven (A0.1503559). Part of a 'Pop Song Layer-Up' series - these arrangements are designed to be fun, warm-up songs for choirs, singing or vocal groups or a quick, easy-win fun filler song. A #LayerUp is designed to be experimented with, taking short elements and layering them to create a new groove. There are multiple ways it can be explored to build confidence, listening skills and focus. Vocal group leaders can experiment with dynamics, tempo, key changes, different genres/styles of singing using a familiar song as a foundation. Two versions have been provided, Version 1 shows each part stacked to play around with layering and Version 2 is designed as a round with suggested 4 group points. We know that rounds and partner songs provide great brain training and stretch for singers to concentrate on their part, understand where it fits into the whole and not be swayed by the multiple notes and rhythms moving around their line. A note range is provided at the start of each line to understand which lines would best suit groups within your vocal group at the treble pitch or an octave lower. Chords are provided if you want to provide a simple accompaniment on piano / guitar / ukulele or other! Most important is to have fun with a #PopLayerUp! And if you share your group on social media, please add the hashtags #PopLayerUp #PopRound and tag @tunefultabitha - would love to hear what you come up with!#Round #PartnerSong #ListeningSkills #Concentration #BrainTraining #Synergy #Dynamics #VocalSkills #WarmUp #ChoirWarmUp.

Christmas Calypso for Percussion Sextet

Percussion Ensemble - Level 2 - Digital Download SKU: A0.935389 Arranged by Dan Heslink. Christian,Christmas. Score and parts. 18 pages. Pharaoh Publications #6117159. Published by Pharaoh Publications (A0.935389). Christmas Calypso for Percussion Sextet . . . . . . . . . . . . . . arr. Dan Heslink The calypso style referenced in the title is not the calypso of Afro-Caribbean music from Trinidad and Tobago. Rather, it is the especially toned-down but still rhythmic commercial variant popularized by folk singers. Couched in this style, the arrangement offers Christmas favorites Deck the Halls, Angels We Have Heard On High, God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen and Good Christian Men, Rejoice. This if one of two versions of the calypso arrangement by Dan Heslink, both of which are available through Sheet Music Plus. The other arrangement, percussion sextet, follows similar musical contours and is available separately. Both versions are intended to elicit one primary response from both performers and audience – fun. It does not tax the players technically, but delivers a satisfying sound with carols that the performers likely know and love. General audiences will be enchanted by the familiar melodies delivered in percussion, especially at Christmas time. The introduction opens with a brisk and rhythmic introduction based on Deck the Halls, and establishes the fun calypso rhythm immediately. Deck the Halls is the much-loved welsh air that was arranged by Haydn, Nos galan (Hob. XXXIb:29, 1803). Then, Angels We Have Heard on High breaks out in double-stops with a continuation of the rhythmic impetus. The birth of Jesus Christ as narrated in the Gospel of Luke is the subject of Angels We Have Heard on High, a traditional French song of unknown origin. The gloria section provides some flowing contrast, portraying the shepherds’ impressions as they encounter a multitude of angels singing and praising. The performers are encouraged to use a relaxed stroke to glide through these passages. Following is God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen, a 16th century English traditional Christmas carol also known under the title, The old Christmas Carol. It provides a contrast in tonality (minor mode) and texture. The xylophone part likely will lay most comfortably when executed with four mallets, although there are no three or four mallet chords in these passages. Good Christian Men, Rejoice is the closing selection in this Christmas medley. It’s title is an English translation of In dulci jubilo (Latin for In sweet rejoicing). The work ends happily with a summation of the calypso rhythm. This medley will be especially effective programmed on a winter holiday concert. Duration is 2:30. The arranger, Dan Heslink, assigned a difficulty level of medium easy, and can be contacted at dan@dheslink.com.
