This is Wesley at his most masterful.Composer and Organist Samuel Sebastian Wesley is the grandson of Charles Wesley founder of Methodism and son of composer Samuel Wesley. He composed music almost entirely for the Anglican church and his works are frequently performed there.By most accounts Wesley was a difficult man who in his determination to improve the quality of country cathedral music often won enemies and lost support. After two unhappy appointments as cathedralOrganist Wesley accepted a position at the Leeds Parish Church which had a new building a new Organ and a vicar determined to create a choir for full Choral services. It was in these congenial circumstances that Wesley first presented this significant and influential Magnificat and Nunc Dimittis.

A Spotless Rose by Welsh composer Paul Mealor arranged for unaccompanied SSAA divisi chorus. The sublime harmonies of this piece were released on the album 'A Tender Light' that also featured his piece composed for the Royal Wedding. This masterful setting of God’s Grandeur by Kenneth Leighton composed quite early in his career has characteristic mid-century muscularity. One can discern the influences of Hindemith and Dallapiccola at moments though the Leighton sustains his diatonic grounding. There are frequent seconds and fourths in the harmonies and sly programmatic details like the sliding setting of the word ‘oozing’. Composer and pianist Kenneth Leighton is one of Britian’s most distinguished post-War composers whose works for Piano and Organ in particular manifest his intellectual rigour and Romanticism with virtuosic solo writing.
