BAIA is a symphonic episode inspired by the submerged Italian city. Through its melodies and sound effects, the authoraims to transport the audience to different moments, providing an aquatic perspective from the eyes of a restless andadventurous fish. This musical journey leads to the exploration of the city of Baia and its archaeological richness preservedbeneath the marine depths, even across time.[…In its time, Baia was an ancient Roman city that flourished during the 1st and 2nd centuries AD. It was a luxuriousdestination and a significant political and social centre in the Roman Empire. Renowned for its thermal baths, impressivearchitecture, and beautiful natural surroundings, the city became a popular retreat for Roman high society, including emperors,nobles, and artists. However, over the centuries, Baia was affected by volcanic activity and changes in the coastline, resulting ina significant portion of the city being submerged underwater. BAIA is een symfonische episode geïnspireerd door de ondergedompelde Italiaanse stad. Door middel van melodieën en geluidseffecten wil de auteurhet publiek mee te nemen naar verschillende momenten en biedt een aquatisch perspectief vanuit de ogen van een rusteloze enavontuurlijke vis. Deze muzikale reis leidt naar de verkenning van de stad Baia en haar archeologische rijkdom die bewaard is geblevenonder de zeebodem, zelfs door de tijd heen.[In zijn tijd was Baia een oude Romeinse stad die floreerde in de 1e en 2e eeuw na Christus. Het was een luxueuzebestemming en een belangrijk politiek en sociaal centrum in het Romeinse Rijk. Bekend om zijn thermale baden, indrukwekkendearchitectuur en de prachtige natuurlijke omgeving, werd de stad een populair toevluchtsoord voor de Romeinse society, waaronder keizers,edelen en kunstenaars. On the broadcast of the film From Dusk Till Dawn, the following note could be read in Gong (German radio and television programme guide) on 21 May: The gangsters Seth (George Clooney) and Richard Gecko (Quentin Tarantino) are on the run. On their way to Mexico, they take the apostate preacher Fuller and his children hostage. On their journey, they end up in Titty Twister Bar, not suspecting that it is peopled by vampires. Well, after deducting some film junk, some typical elements remain: what is past and over, constant new dramatic pair constellations, what is dead and constantly reawakening, the transformations, the troubles and destructions, the final annihilation teeming with destruction etc. Basically, it is a myth of ruin, in whose structure the elements are interchangeable. It could also be told with a coherent material concept, in a historically obsolete manner, in an old-fashioned way, with non-compensation, with flaring abolition yes, does everything always work??? It is good that it only takes place in a bar and that the bar invites us into Titty Twister in attractive neon writing. Restless nature and beauty are at home in the bar today. That facilitates for us the effortlessness of having fun in life. And today there is a special programme my piece Titty Twister for Accordion, Viola, Nepalese Singing Bowl, Pinballs and Mini Dramolettes. Its all expression, isnt it??? Nicolaus A. From majestic to pastoral to dance-like, Land of the Long White Cloud is Philip Sparke's representation of New Zealand. This piece is a wonderful addition to the concert band repetoire.

Long before Europeans ventured out of sight of land, the bold and restless ancestors of the Maori people were making voyages of thousands of miles across the world's greatest oceans. It was around 1000 AD that they landed in New Zealand. The discovery of New Zealand is attributed in Maori tradition to Kupe and the circumstances of the landfall gave the country its Maori name. As land was approached, a long, flat volcanic cloud could be seen. Kupe's wife Hine-te-aparangi, looked to the horizon and cried out, He ao! He ao! A cloud! A cloud! The name of Aotearoa was given to the islands - The Land of the Long White Cloud. Land of the Long White Cloud was originally conceived as a brass band work as a result of a commission by the New Zealand Brass Band Association for their National Championships held in 1980 in Christchurch. This transcription by the composer was commissioned by Keith Allen and Birmingham Schools' Wind Orchestra who gave the first performance in the Adrian Boult Hall, Birmingham, England on Sunday 15 May 1988.
