It takes a historico-critical approach and seeks to document the history of the works and writings by shedding light on their transformations, thus identifying the various versions as witnesses of evolving aesthetic and historical positions. Eislers complete oeuvre (only a limited number of his works had penetrated the publics awareness up until the 1990s) first became the object of an editorial undertaking when the Eisler - Gesammelte Werke (EGW) was founded by Nathan Notowicz. It was later placed under the direction of Manfred Grabs and Eberhardt Klemm, and began issuing its publications in 1968 through the intermediary of the Deutscher Verlag fur Musik in Leipzig. However, only four volumes of music and five volumes of writings were published. The Hanns Eisler Complete Edition pursues the work begun at that time, although it has had to fundamentally revise its editorial principles. In this respect, the Hanns Eisler Complete Edition can be considered as a completely new editorial undertaking. It became necessary to reconceive the organization of the volumes and series as well as the editorial guidelines in order to adapt the standards of historico-critical editing generally applicable today to the specific and sometimes singular circumstances of Eislers works. The Critical Commentaries pertaining to the main volumes follow the music section or, whenever they are too extensive, appear in a special volume.Series I: Choral MusicSeries II: Music for Voice and Instrumental Ensemble or OrchestraSeries III: Music for Voice and PianoSeries IV: Instrumental MusicSeries V: Incidental MusicSeries VI: Film MusicSeries VII: Sketches and FragmentsSeries VIII: Arrangements of works by other composersSeries IX: Writings, Letters and InterviewsSON 501 has been awarded the German Music Edition Prize 2003.SON 502 has been awarded the German Music Edition Prize 2007.The major upheavals that transformed society and musical aesthetics during the first half of the 20th century also profoundly affected the life of Hanns Eisler, as well as his compositions and writings. The importance and scope of Eislers oeuvre are reason enough to make his works accessible to musical scholarship and practice in a comprehensive fashion. Price reduction for a subscription.

Matt Redman has stated that his goal in songwriting is infusing passion with truth. That is certainly evident in this new worship classic based on Psalm 103, and powerfully arranged by David Wise for worship-leading choir. Sing like never before!

A rhythmic composition in which the cells quaver / two semiquaver and two semiquaver / quaver are like a leitmotiv until the end of the Piece. The numerous triplets are a wink of Rhapsody in Blues from George Gershwin. My goal was to facilitate the listening, the exchange and the mimicry between the two associated players: no tandem (Temps d'M) without that!

The word primal is defined as relating to an early stage in development or basic, fundamental, essential, elemental. Imagine this tune challenging your players who fit that definition. Many young and developing musicians experience difficulty with mastering rhythmic accuracy with confidence. Yet, rhythm is essential to music performance. Student proficiency in reading rhythmic figures and being able to move comfortably from one meter to another should be a goal of the orchestra director. This work provides rhythmic challenges and uses multiple meter changes to create interesting, appealing, and unique rhythmic textures.

Organ Symphony No. 2 (2017) was written for and is dedicated to German organist Philip Hartmann. In all of my works that employ larger-scale forms (not just organ compositions), I am continually looking for different ways of providing the form and structure. My first organ symphony (2013) comprised three larger movements that charted a progression from dark to light. By contrast, this second organ symphony comprises 12 shorter movements that together build a larger structure out of varied emotional states. Although the movements are different in character, there are connections of harmony and motive across them. One goal behind this work is that it be suitable for effective performance on almost any organ, small or large. Most organ symphonies require a large instrument. By contrast, this piece can be played effectively on even a small organ with a limited number of stops (even a one manual organ with an octave pedal board). It can also be very effective on a large symphonic organ with many different colors and a huge tutti. Registration is left to the performer's discretion, and the organist is strongly encouraged to use the full extent of whatever resources are available. BACH-SHARDS was commissioned by the Brentano String Quartet as part of their Art of the Fugue companion-piece project. Ran deliberately stays within the realm of Bach-like vocabulary, altering syntax in ways that add up to something slightly different from the anticipated sum of the parts. The work builds up to a climax that makes the entry point into Bach’s Contrapunctus X seem thoroughly natural. While composing Bach-Shards I found myself gravitating, intuitively and gradually, toward a dual goal. First, though the tension and dissonance inherent in certain moments of Bach’s own maze-like contrapuntal structures could quite easily and naturally lead one into a pungent contemporary terrain, I opted not to stray outside the realm of Bach-like materials and harmonic language. Instead, it was my hope to alter their relationships and context in ways that add up to a something that’s slightly different than the anticipated sum of the parts. A mildly deconstructed Bach, if you will. The other important challenge I set for myself was building up the latter, toccata-like portion of Bach-Shards in a way that would make the entry point of the fugue which it precedes, Contrapunctus X, seem thoroughly natural. It was my intent to have the first fugal entrance feel like a huge and much welcome release of the energy created by my Prelude’s penultimate stretch, with its bravura figurations elaborating on an insistent dominant pedal point.

If this text, inspired by Martin Luther King's speech about the Montgomery march, doesn't sufficiently summon one's attention, then combining it with this musical setting will quite certainly accomplish that goal. “Truth pressed to the earth . . . String Quartet No. 3 is in one continuous movement and represents some harmonic and structural experimentation by the composer. The work plays out a bit like a tone poem for string quartet. Mason says This work blends tonal, polytonal and atonal material. My goal was to create new sounds but with a driving suspense and energy from the very first chords to the very end to take the listener on a kind of cosmic tour to different worlds of mystery, longing, warmth, and even triumph. This piece is suggested for advanced level players. YouTube link with the Lyris Quartet performing this work:: 2 vn, vla, vcl Duration: 14' Composed: 2021 Published by: Todd Mason.
