Lent & Easter Musical Not 'Who Was Jesus?' but 'Who Is Jesus?' The question is asked in the present tense because it's Christ's interaction with our lives in the here and now that is the focus of this 30 minute Tenebrae service. The events of Holy Week are presented through enticing arrangements of familiar hymns and spirituals plus narration, culminating with the crucifixion story in a moving rendition of 'O Sacred Head, Now Wounded. ' There are opportunities to include vocal solos, as well as, congregational singing. The accompaniment can be provided by piano, CD track, or a chamber ensemble of five instruments. A further option is an organ part that can work with just piano or can be added to the chamber instruments. Finally, there are instructions for lighting and extinguishing seven candles ending in darkness with all softly singing of the first verse of 'Fairest Lord Jesus. 'Instrumental Parts: Conductor's Score, Organ, Flute, Oboe, Violin,Cello and Horn in F.

“Lord, Send Out Your Spirit†is based on Veni Creator Spiritus, one of the most familiar Gregorian chants. The chant is sung at Pentecost Vespers, the dedication of a church, and for the sacraments of Confirmation and Holy Orders. It is also heard at consistories when the cardinals gather in the Sistine Chapel to elect a new pope. The psalm verses in this setting are appointed for Pentecost Sunday Mass during the Day, as well as being an option for a common responsorial psalm for Pentecost.

Composed in the late period, around 1740 A lively discussion about the choral movement Nun ist das Heil und die Kraft has been carried on, in which not only all previous assumptions have been called into question - including Bach's authorship - but also show how little we know about the history of this magnificent movement. Even though there is little to refute the 1982 presumption that the work was handed down in the form of an arrangement, the question remains open concerning the identity of the arranger, as well as the alleged form of the original design. Therefore it seemed appropriate to forego any attempts at reconstruct-ion. Rather, for the present new edition the music has been critically examined and commented upon based on the surviving copy from Bach's circle. With its traditional forms and proven compositional models, its original ideas, which are sometimes marked by a folk- or folksong-like melodic character, and with its harmonic richness, Dvorak's D major Mass serves in its liturgical context to express the worship of God. The Mass is characterized by lyrical meditation rather than by dramatic immediacy. Score and parts available separately - see item CA.4065300.

The extraordinarily high reputation among Handel's contemporaries of his Passion Oratorio to words by Brockes is indicated by the fact that no less eminent a musician than Johann Sebastian Bach himself made a copy of this work. Although Bach copied it without making substantial changes in it, our edition of the work brings together two of the greatest baroque composers. The Brockes Passion was - not only for the Leipzig Thomaskantor - an alternative to the betterknown Bach Passions. Score and part available separately - see item CA.5504800.

In 1988, GIA released Michael Joncas’s No Greater Love, a flexible mass setting offering cathedral-style music that was accessible to the singing assembly. Beautiful melodies enhanced by SATB choir and extensive orchestrations were the hallmark of this best-selling work. Now, Michael Joncas has revised this treasured setting using the 2010 Revised Order of Mass. The revision has a new through-composed Gloria that can be sung in unison during the Sundays of Ordinary Time, and for more festive occasions, one can add the optional instrumental and SATB choral parts. Also new to this setting are the gospel acclamation and a sung setting of the prayer of the faithful. The memorable congregational parts for the Kyrie and the Agnus Dei haven’t changed and the much-loved Holy, Holy has been adapted to accommodate the 2010 Revised Order of Mass text. The optional orchestration is now reduced and includes string quartet, flute, and oboe parts  Organ accompaniment is printed in the score.
