Alto; Soprano; Vocal (Voice and Piano) SKU: HL.51481487 For Female Voice and Piano. Composed by Evgeny Kissin. Henle Music Folios. Classical. Softcover. G. Henle #HN1487. Published by G. Henle (HL.51481487). UPC: 840126989342. 8.25x11.75x0.079 inches. It is a great pleasure to present, with Thanatopsis, maestro Kissin's opus 4, an expressive setting of the ground-breaking poem from the quill of William Cullen Bryant. Published in in the form known today in 1821, it is an early example of American romantic poetry of the 19th century. Bryant is today reckoned among the group of “Fireside Poets†or “Schoolroom Poets,†names that allude to the places where their poems were usually recited. His poems – first and foremost Thanatopsis (“A Consideration of Deathâ€) as his most famous – are rooted in the English tradition, but at the same time show Bryant's openness to a genuine American language and lifeworld. Evgeny Kissin's setting is a large vocal scene intensely informed by recitative, which congenially allows the prevailing mood of the text to resound. Our edition additionally includes German and French translations of the poem and an informative afterword about Bryant's life and work and the genesis of Thanatopsis. Complete Critical Edition of the Works of Leos Janacek E/4. Complete edition, Score, Set of parts. Composed 1928. No. 2. Duration 26 minutes. Baerenreiter Verlag #BA06857_00. Published by Baerenreiter Verlag (BA.BA06857). ISBN 9790260100503. 34.3 x 27 cm inches. Janácek’s 2nd String Quartet, “Intimate Lettersâ€, is regarded as a highlight of the modern string quartet literature. It was written during the composer’s last year of life, between 29 January and 19 February 1928, inspired by the ageing Janácek’s exceptional love for Kamila Stösslová. The Moravian Quartet devoted themselves to this impressive work; Janácek attended a total of three of their rehearsals in May and June 1928. This had several consequences, including his abandoning his original idea of using a viola d’amore.
After Janácek’s unexpected death (12 August 1928) the uncertain genesis of the work became the greatest problem of the “Intimate Lettersâ€: the surviving copies were not definitively authorised.
The editors of this new edition have reverted to Janácek’s autograph sketches as the main, most reliable source and using these as a basis, have reconstructed the work as it stood at the point of Janácek’s death.
The musical text therefore contains clear differences in comparison with older editions.

This new critical edition presents two different versions of the work in two separate volumes (B/5-I, BA 6862 und B/5-II, BA 6863): the “September 1927†version which the composer completed before the first rehearsals and subsequent premiere in Brno and the version he partly reworked for the first Prague performance in April 1928. This second version was then revised further and published after Janacek’s death by Universal Edition Wien in 1930. Known as the “final authorised version“, it has been newly edited for this publication which is based on the engraver’s copy of the score prepared by Janacek’s regular copyist Václav Sedlacek.
The new Barenreiter edition also contains an informative preface (Cz/Eng/Ger/Fr/Ru) as well as detailed critical commentary. The “September 1927†version can be seen more as a supplement and appears without text commentary.

Henle (HL.51481561). UPC: 196288308119. 9.25x12.25x0.15 inches. Schubert composed his piano sonata in a minor in May 1825; it is one of Schubert's few piano works that was published during his lifetime. The four movements are expressive but each in its own way: a ballade style in the first piece, a songful second movement, surging restlessness in the third and eruptive passion in the final movement. Together, however, they constitute a uniform work. Since the autograph is lost, this revised Urtext edition is based exclusively on the first edition that was authorised by Schubert. The preface and comments provide detailed information on the genesis of the work and on open questions concerning the musical text. Carefully thought-out fingerings by Schubert expert Martin Helmchen round off the edition. Soloists, Mixed choir, Orchestra SKU: BA.BA05576 Composed by Franz Schube...(+)
Soloists, Mixed choir, Orchestra SKU: BA.BA05576 Composed by Franz Schubert. Edited by Rudolf Faber. This edition: urtext edition. Paperback. Score. Baerenreiter Verlag #BA05576. Published by Baerenreiter Verlag (BA.BA05576). ISBN 9790006575954. 31 x 24.3 cm inches. Key: E-flat major. Text Language: Latin. We know relatively little about the genesis of Schubertâ??s Mass in E-flat major (D 950) which he completed in 1828, a few months before his death. The work was not performed during his lifetime and we can only speculate what might have caused the composer to write this Missa solemnis.
In the preface to this volume of the New Schubert Edition, editor Rudolf Faber assembles all documented facts. Furthermore, he focuses on the accents, which are such a characteristic element of Schubertâ??s autograph scores, and explains how Schubert used them in a very differentiated manner, in particular in the Mass in E-flat major. In order to do justice to these subtle differences, the New Schubert Edition has introduced a new symbol: an accent which is flexible with regard to its length and which makes it possible to visualize Schubertâ??s sophisticated employment of emphasis and accentuation.
The work is scored for large orchestra (without flutes), chorus, and one soprano as well as two tenors as soloists. In Schubertâ??s autograph the organ is not explicitly called for, but Ferdinand Schubert added an organ part for the posthumous premiere on 4 October 1829 at the Dreifaltigkeitskirche of Vienna Alservorstadt.

| Der erste Ton / Jubel-Kantate Schott
Chorus; Orchestra; Vocal (Complete Edition) SKU: HL.49042473 Carl Mari...(+)
Chorus; Orchestra; Vocal (Complete Edition) SKU: HL.49042473 Carl Maria von Weber Complete Edition. Composed by Carl Maria von Weber. Edition Schott. Classical. Hardcover. 180 pages. Schott Music #WGA1089. Published by Schott Music (HL.49042473). Carl Maria von Weber's fame rests mainly on Der Freischutz. The unprecedented success of this opera overshadowed all his other works and contributed to their increasing fall into oblivion. Certain works such as Preciosa, Oberon, and Euryanthe, the overtures, solo concertos and piano sonatas, the lieder and chamber works enjoyed great popularity and were widely known in Germany and abroad as late as the second half of the 19th century. However, any chance of a revival of Weber's influential and substantial oeuvre was wasted in the 1920s, when a complete edition - begun by Hans Joachim Moser and with potential contributors including Wilhelm Kempff, Hans Pfitzner, Max von Schillings, Fritz Stein and Richard Strauss - failed after the third volume. Ever since there have been numerous attempts to restart a complete edition of Weber's works, but as this kind of project would have required the co-operation of scholars from both sides of the inter-German border, the political situation after 1945 was not conducive to any such enterprise. Careful negotiations led to the first tangible steps in the 1980s. The intention, right from the beginning, was to place Webers work in context, and not to separate his musical output from his influential work as a writer, critic and organiser in the musical field, but to publish his compositions together with his letters, diaries and other literary output as the best way to document the cross-fertilisation between his musical, literary and practical activities. Since the German re-unification both working-parties concerned - at the Staatsbibliothek zu Berlin, and at the Musikwissenschaftliches Seminar, Detmold/Paderborn - have co-operated on the complete edition of the musical works (c. 45 volumes in10 series: sacred music; cantatas, odes and other occasional works; stage works; lieder and vocal works; orchestral works; chamber music; music for piano; piano reductions; miscellanea, arrangements and orchestrations; works of doubtful attribution).
