The SF-12 stereo coincident ribbon microphone combines high quality audio performance with outstanding stereo separation and imaging. It is a modern ribbon design with no audible diffraction effects or cavity resonance. An SF-12 is actually two matched ribbon microphones placed one above the other; each aimed 45 degrees from center in the classic Blumlein configuration. The frequency response is excellent regardless of the angle of sound striking the ribbons and off-axis coloration is negligible. The SF-12 utilizes two 1.8-micron ribbons, each weighing approximately 1/3 milligram and producing superb transient response. The two ribbon transducers are magnet/pole piece structures that produce a wide, uniform frequency response with no substantial peaks or dips. The case is ingot iron and forms part of the magnetic return circuit, an effective system with low leakage flux which accounts for the relatively high sensitivity in a trim package. The SF-12's extension cable comes with a Y adapter that splits into separate 3-pin male XLR connectors labled âUpperâ and âLower,â for the upper and lower capsules of the microphone (when held vertically). The SF-12 is uncanny for creating âyou-are-thereâ stereo recordings that capture not only the instrument being recorded, but, depending on positioning, the acoustic environment as well. If you pay carefull attention to the sound of an instrument or ensemble in the recording environment, you will likely find a place where it sounds best to you. Position the SF-12 in that place and you will capture that sound.

In this one-movement concerto the flute is a highly adaptable soloist: at times a whispering breath on a starry sky, at others an arctic bird soaring above a winter landscape, taking startled flight on spotting a human figure. The idea for this work came to Nieminen in Rome when he was kept awake by persistent birdsong in the heat of the night. The title alludes to the last novel, Palomar, by Italo Calvino.

Clare Fischer's Strayhorn is a feature that includes a completely written-out solo piano part so that it can also be played by good classically-trained musicians with little jazz experience. Jazz pianists are invited to improvise the solo. First trumpet goes to C (2 ledger lines above staff). Arranged for big band by Bill Dobbins.

From the pen of Rob Romeyn comes this powerful and dramatic programmatic work that sounds straight out of a blockbuster movie soundtrack! The music begins with a delicate statement presented by a solo flute, answered by a solo clarinet soaring above transparent harmonies, leading to a beautiful expressive section. From here, the music takes off with an aggressive display of emotion and power, captivating the audience with high intensity. Multiple sections of the ensemble are featured melodically and harmonically as we continue our journey. Many changes in dynamics, harmonic structure, textures, and varied scoring techniques not only enhance the excitement, but make this an outstanding teaching piece. After a breathtaking climax, the expressive section returns, more developed this time. The piece then ends aggressively, sure to have your audience on the edge of their seat until the last note. Don't miss this significant addition to the concert band repertoire!

A commission by the U.S. Air Force Band of the West allowed Ewazen to consider the ten years following the events of 9/11/2001, resulting in A Time of Strife, a Time of Peace. The first movement considers the long wars and the losses entailed through soaring lyrical lines above a rhythmic, pounding accompaniment, as Ewazen puts it. The second movement is a bittersweet celebration on the death of the perpetrator and a future of joy, peace, and life. Ewazen says, A burst of joyous energy bringing this chapter in our history to a close..

Text Source: 7 Advent Antiphons.
Inspired by the seven O Antiphons traditionally sung immediately preceding Christmas. L’Estrange begins with a refrain that floats over a drone in the lower voices. As the anthem progresses, tight harmonies weave in and out both above and below the drone in a sea of harmony that pleads for the Savior to come. The final chord is a moment of breathtaking beauty.

This beautiful anthem combines the themes of music appreciation with servitude in a truly artistic way, both musically and textually. Above those themes is also a song of praise and thanks. The optional string quartet adds more color to the piece which mirrors the prayer in the words.

More Classical Highlights is the follow-up to Classical Highlights, a collection featuring arrangements of classical themes dating from the 17th century up to the19th century. The parts are quite easy and attractively written, but the arrangements stay as faithful as possible to the original works. Baroque music is represented with two highlights: the well-known Canon by Pachelbel may well be the most performed 17th century composition. The power of the piece lies in a bass line of only eight notes, above which the melodic line of the round itself develops. Réjouissance from Music for the Royal Fireworks is a very joyful composition bythe Anglo-German baroque composer Handel. The 18th century classical style gives us the refined minuet by Boccherini, the Italian composer who wrote a wealth of chamber music. The 19th century features in three famous works: the lively Marche Militaire No 1 by the Austrian composer Schubert originates from 3 Marches Militaires for four-handed piano. The Can Can from Orphée aux enfers (Orpheus in the Underworld) is the best-known separately performed piece by the operetta composer Offenbach. Following this exciting dance music there is the beautiful, lofty Largo theme from the second movement of Czech composer Dvorákâ??s From the New World Symphony. In short: Six varying arrangements - challenging and very suitable for performances!
