Ton Koopman's new edition of all 16 organ concertos by Handel has drawn to a close. The quality of this edition has been highly praised from all quarters. Source-critical responsibility goes hand in hand with a high level of performance practice when Koopman provides interpretative tips for the ad libitum passages in the organ part without restricting the creativity of the interpreter who is interested in stylistic matters and prefers to work out his own solutions. I want to make an edition that is not a Koopman interpretation, but contains only that which Handel really wrote. Nevertheless, there are occasional performance suggestions in small print which are elucidated in the Critical Commentary. (Ton Koopman in Concerto) Koopman offers a basically unmarked text, thus leaving the performance details up to the performer. Especially note-worthy is the clear printing, extensive preface and detailed Critical Notes. (Katholische Kirchenmusik) Whoever wishes to hear the entire Koopman edition on CD can look forward to the new recording by Christian Schmitt and the Stuttgarter Kammerorchester (Brilliant Classics). This is the first recording for which all 16 new Koopman editions were used as the basis for the performance.,I want to make an edition that is not a Koopman interpretation, but contains only that which Handel really wrote.' Nearly all of the orchestral arrangements were made years after the original compositions. Yet even though the arrangements were made in a very short period of time, Sibelius handled the combination of solo voice and orchestra with equal mastery.

Sibelius made most of the orchestral versions of his songs for the soprano Ida Ekman (1875-1942), the incomparable Sibelius singer the composer called her in a dedication written in a score. Ida Ekman gave the first performance of the orchestral version of Se'n har jag ej fragat mera on March 30, 1914, in Turku. Idas husband Karl conducted the orchestra of the Turku Musical Society.Nearly all of the orchestral arrangements were made years after the original compositions for voice and piano. Yet even though the arrangements were made in a very short period of time, Sibelius handled the combination of solo voice and orchestra in all songs with equal mastery, sometimes creating dark and dramatic atmospheres (in Pa verandan vid havet), sometimes radiant, colorful impressions (in Soluppgang), or light-colored, transparent textures (in Varen flyktar hastigt), and always basing his ideas on the poetic idea of the song while discovering refined ways of supporting it.In most cases, Sibelius used a comparatively small orchestra: Varen flyktar hastigt has only two flute and four horns added to the strings.Nearly all of the orchestral arrangements were made years after the original compositions. Yet even though the arrangements were made in a very short period of time, Sibelius handled the combination of solo voice and orchestra with equal mastery.

(Nicolaus A. The Sinfonia in E-flat major was probably written by Johann Christian Bach in his first decade in London, around 1765-70. Because of its small instrumentation and ease of performance, this E-flat major symphony enjoyed great popularity even during Bach's lifetime.

The 98th Psalm is one of Mendelssohn's church-music works which is hard to categorize.
ISBN 9790004330074. 9 x 12 inches.
The 98th Psalm is one of Mendelssohn's church-music works which is hard to categorize. Just like the Lobgesang Cantata, which unites the symphonic form and the chorale cantata, the 98th Psalm joins the motet and cantata forms into a highly expressive unity. The work begins in eight parts a cappella and leads to a vigorous orchestral movement. The use of the harp in Romantic church music was innovative and provocative in Mendelssohn's day.The piano-vocal score made by Mendelssohn himself was completed by Michael Obst, who reduced the introductory a cappella chorus for rehearsal purposes. The 98th Psalm is one of Mendelssohn's church-music works which is hard to categorize.

One of the greatest masterworks of the 20th century! It has lost nothing of its fascination to this day.
ISBN 9790004342466. 10 x 12.5 inches.
In 1936 Bela Bartok was commissioned by his Swiss patron Paul Sacher to write the Music for Stringed Instruments, Percussion and Celesta. What Bartok created was nothing less than one of the greatest masterworks of the 20th century that beguiles the listener through its extraordinarily refined construction and lushly expressive rhythms and melodies. Also remarkable is that Bartok jotted down the four-movement orchestral work very rapidly and without a short score. Breitkopf's new edition is based on the autograph, on the first editions of the conducting and pocket score, and in particular on the composer's personal copy of the pocket score, in which Bartok later entered the corrections that he had discovered - alterations that were taken into consideration for the first time in this new edition. One of the greatest masterworks of the 20th century! It has lost nothing of its fascination to this day.

Although the organ works of Sigfrid Karg-Elert are enjoying ever greater popularity, his choral pieces are still waiting to be discovered. This, however, is now only a matter of time. During his middle creative period, Karg-Elert developed his own, unmistakable choral style. His few choral works, which stem from the years 1912 and 1913, unquestionably belong to his major works from this period.
