This organ reduction is intended to use instead of the original orchestral accompaniment- it is compatible with new edition of Requiem da Camera by Christian Alexander (BH 12681). The organ reduction was done by Francis Jackson, doyen of English cathedral organists and titulaire at York Minster for 36 years.Jackson sympathetically recreates the chamber orchestra scoring for a three-manual organ. Ingeniously, the manual couplings (II to III, II and III to I) are unaltered throughout, with pedal coupled to manuals as appropriate. Detailed registrations are not indicated as these are best left to the performer, taking into account the unique circumstances of the particular instrument, size of choir and acoustic setting at each individual performance.The user-friendly landscape score includes at least one principal vocal line cued throughout, and a cappella choral passages are reproduced in full.Requiem da Camera was Finzi's first extended work- only the instrumental prelude was performed during his lifetime. The other three movements are settings of poems by John Masefield, Thomas Hardy and Wilfrid Wilson Gibson. Scored for baritone solo, small chorus (or SATB soli) and chamber orchestra, the wellspring of the Requiem's composition was the death, during active service in 1918, of Finzi's composition teacher, Ernest Farrar. The work may also be viewed as a metaphor - the permanence of the land, and a centuries-old pattern of rural life following the rhythm of the turning seasons, contrasted with the violent havoc and destructive dislocation wrought by war. Today it is almost certain that practically all of these concertos were transcribed from concertos for melody instruments (mostly violin or oboe).When Johann Sebastian Bach created his six-part corpus of harpsichord concertos in 1738 (BWV 1052-1057) he gave pride of place to the Concerto in D minor BWV 1052. It has long been thought for good reasons that this piece was based on a lost violin concerto in the same key that he had already transcribed on twoprevious occasions.The second 'forerunner' of BWV 1052 is the present harpsichord concerto. It was first published by Wilhelm Rust in volume 17 of the old Bach Society Gesamtausgabe (1869) and given the number BWV 1052a in the Schmieder catalogue. G minor BWV 1058-In early 1729 Bach became director of the so-called »Scottish Collegium Musician« a music organization of students and local citizens. The remarkable results of this undertaking are the concertos for harpsichord. Today it is almost certain that practically all of these concertos were transcribed from concertos for melody instruments (mostly violin or oboe).The Concerto for Harpsichord and Strings in G minor BWV 1058 is the last complete work in the original autograph score of harpsichord concertos that Bach wrote out in or around 1738 (Berlin Staatsbibliothek Mus. Ms. Bach 234). However it only came to occupy this position later when the manuscript wasbound. It stands at the very outset of the genesis of this group of works and marks the earliest stage in Bach’s efforts to transform concertos for melody instrument and strings into harpsichord concertos. Pour Quintette de Vents-French composer and conductor Henri Tomasi (1901-1971) published Five Secular and Sacred Dances for Wind Quintet in 1963. As with his other wind compositions Five Secular and Sacred Dances was well-received by audiences. Tomasi was born in Marseille but his Father and Mother were originally from La Casinca in Corsica. Despite being pressured into musical studies by his parents Tomasi dreamed of becoming a sailor and during the summer he stayed with his Grandmother in Corsica where he learnt traditional Corsican songs. However in 1921 he began his studies at the Paris Conservatoire and wenton to become a high profile composer and conductor. Tomasi did not forget his Corsican routes often incorporating themes of the songs he had learnt during the summers with his Grandmother in to his compositions. Five Secular and Sacred Dances is a reduction arrangement of his work of the same name for Chamber Orchestra. Comprising five movements; 1) Rural Dance 2) Secular Dance 3) Sacred Dances 4) Bridal Dance and 5) Warrior Dances Five Secular and Sacred Dances is one of three Wind Quintets by the composer. This Tomasi piece is suitable to an advanced Wind Quintet providing an exciting alternative addition to the ensemble repertoire.
