Water Dances is a work scored for two pianos from 2011. Much of the work is an arrangement of the music written for the Michael Nyman Band for Peter Greenaway's 1984 film Making a Splash. The two-piano version was recorded by the Labèque sisters for their CD Minimalist Dream House on the KML/Deutsche Grammophon label.

The two pianos introduce the bass motif one after another. Every new entry brings an increase in tempo. Only when they play together, though, is the real 'Vivace unleashed. From then on, it is only in the 'largamente' sections and a lyrical middle section (cantabile) that the racing bass figure pauses for a while. The motif weaves its way through the course of the 'Toccata' like a 'perpetuum mobile', bringing ever more complex layering to the structure of the movement. The Latvian composer Peteris Vasks has described himself as a 'musician from the periphery' on account of his geographical and cultural background. His music full of emotional rigour continues to bring him towards the centre of contemporary composition, as is evident in his instrumental chamber works.

Composed between December 2014 and November 2015, Moving On developed from an initial short concert piece, written at the request of the piano duo Lauryna Sableviciute and Nicholas Ashton, into a larger work of several related movements reflecting different types of forward motion. Some wander, with no sense of hurry; others - such as fast forward, a kind of frantic boogie-woogie that might accompany a short, speeded-up film of an old American railroad train - dash or are fleeting. As the composer admits, a future destination of Moving On might well be a piece with filmaEUR|.

Variations, Nocturne & Finale On An English Sea-Song for Piano and Orchestra Op.60. Orchestral part arranged for a second Piano by David Lyon.
After a brief introduction to the Orchestra, the melody of an eighteenth century whalermen's ballad with verse and refrain 'Blow Ye Winds', is given out, the verse by the Piano, the refrain divided between Orchestra and Piano. Then follow thirteen variations, the last three being pianistic etudes, accompanied Orchestrally. The nocturne evokes the nostalgia of a long voyage and the finale the excitement, dangers and glory of a triumphant chase. In these movements, as well as in the variations, the entiremusical material is derived from the basic theme. The work is designed as a virtuoso concert-piece for the pianist, with supporting Orchestral flashes of colour and points of contrast.
