This version of Concertino by Eugene Bozza is the version for alto saxophone and piano dedicated to Marcel Mule. Written in two parts, I. Fantasque et leger and II. Andantino, this work lasts 17 minutes and is very difficult to execute as a strong endurance and really good skills and technique are required. Very interesting in term of melody and sonority, this piece definitely shows the full saxophone range at its best and is perfect for contests and recitals. Eugene Bozza won different prizes at the Conservatoire de Paris such as the First Prizes for the Violin, conducting and composition, as well as the Grand Prix de Rome. He composed several operas, chamber works and ballets among others.

Very challenging, this piece lasts approximately nine minutes and features many technical aspects which require strong knowledge of the instrument and its practice. The piece includes many repetitions, harmonies, accidentals, bisbigliandos, Aeolians sounds, slaps and growls among other technical difficulties. Ryo Noda is a Japanese saxophonist who is used to all genres: classical, romantic, and baroque among others. He is also known for his work of improvisations.&rdquo.

Maï by Ryo Noda, a Japanese composer, is a unique piece of work for solo saxophone that is strongly influenced by Japanese music. With some sonority supposed to be quite close to those of a koto and of a shakuhachi, this piece is very technical and complex to play.The story behind this work is about the ghost of a Japanese Samurai. While his wife asks why he let her behind and left to fight in the war, he tries to justify his choices. Most of the work depicts the struggle within the mind of the Samurai, between ending his life and living in the end of his enemies. The screaming altissimo at the end is the climax of his struggle which then followed by a 10 second silence that represents his death. The technical abilities required are: large interval leaps, rapid trills, alternate fingerings to achieve pitch bending, multiphonics, altissimo, portamento and cutting tone.
