Bill Holman's music never disappoints, and 'Introduction to an Ending' is no exception! Originally written for and recorded on the Charlie Barnet Big Band 1967 album, this straight-ahead blues tune features the saxophone section with a long, wonderful soli that grows for over 70 bars before ripping into the solo section. There is solo space for alto saxophone, trumpet, trombone, piano, and drums. Filled with energy and excitement, the shout chorus comes roaring in to take the tune out with a bang. This is a great addition to any program! 5-4-4-3.

Bob has created an absolutely thrilling 12 minute work, inspired by his Celtic roots (Towednack is a small area in Cornwall, England). The Celtic influence is heard in the triple-meter settings and the interlude which reflects back on a Riverdance style of music. Tenor sax is featured. Very much in the genre of his Metheny/Mays charts of the past. Commissioned by Riverside Community College (CA) Performed at the August, 1999 Kenton Sounds concert in Los Angeles. No w.w. doubles. Every once in a while a melody is written that words cannot convey and only the soul understands. Master-of-melodies, Pat Metheny, did just that in his composition of Tell Her You Saw Me, and Bob Curnow magnificently transformed it into a majestic big band arrangement. A ballad throughout that slowly builds in intensity; this piece utilizes woodwind doubles and flugelhorns with a short, written-out piano solo up front. If you are looking to provide a moving ballad for your audiences, then this is it. 5-4-4-4.

Also known as Patterns For Orchestra (as recorded on the Verve jazz masters 48 CD), this is one of Nelson's very interesting charts. It has a very angular, exciting melody in a brisk swing tempo, and lots of solo space for trombone (as recorded by J.J. Johnson). The solo space could be filled by piano or any other instrument as well. The instrumentation has been converted to 5-4-4-4, a standard big band.

This Oliver Nelson melody was originally recorded with a small group. Bob Curnow took this great tune and arranged it for big band in a very hip way! Set in an easy swing feel, this chart has quite a bluesy feel to it while providing a nice variation to the standard blues changes that you might not expect. There is solo space for alto saxophone, trombone and piano. In this pro (original) version, you will find Oliver Nelson's amazing solo transcribed and arranged as a trumpet soli. Rich DeRosa, Professor of Jazz Composition at the University of North Texas, has written an exquisite ballad in dedication to Neil Slater (UNT Jazz Studies chair and director of One O'Clock Lab Band, retired). Originally recorded by the UNT One O'Clock Lab Band on their album Lab 2015, 'Neil' features the piano with a lot of room to improvise, combined with gorgeous, lush, legato ensemble passages. Quite playable by most bands, this chart has very limited brass ranges (highest note for trumpet is a written G) and will be a fantastic addition to any concert program! This 'pro' version requires 10-brass. 5-5-5-3.

Ever heard of Take the A Train? Not like this you haven't! Another ingenious arrangement from the towering Rich DeRosa, this up-tempo swing chart is a journey through creative waters from beginning to end and will not disappoint. In additional to incredible ensemble writing, there is improvisation space for piano and alto saxophone. As recorded by the University of North Texas One O'Clock Lab Band on their album Lab 2013, DeRosa's arrangement of Take the A Train is a must for any serious band. 5-4-4-4.

Dan has created a wonderful Rock Ballad, with a nifty, repeating vamp figure, that can be played by even the most inexperienced players. He has managed to do this without compromising the music. The chart is wonderful! The melody is stated by 2 Altos, Trumpet and Trombone in unison, and it grooves on from there. VERY limited ranges (1st Tpt. written G top of staff) Solos for Alto Sax, Tenor Sax and Trumpet. Solos are written out, or they can be improvised as well. Your band will love it! 5-4-4-4.
