This edited version of Where's Teddy (as played and recorded by Maynard Ferguson's Birdland Dream Band) is much more playable for the trumpet section as a whole than the original pro version (which is also available). However, everything else is the same and it does not sacrifice any of the original chart's style and charm. It is a medium-swing minor blues tune with solo space for trumpet, tenor saxophone and drums. 5-4-4-3.

As recorded by the Oliver Nelson Orchestra, 'Berlin Bei Nacht' is the 4th movement of the Impressions of Berlin suite. Set in an up-tempo fashion, this Oliver Nelson's 1971 forward-thinking original starts out with an in-your-face swing unison line played by the saxophones and the trumpets, with the trombones and rhythm section providing the undercurrent. It then moves into a half-time Latin feel before settling into a funk/rock blues solo section (trumpet, or as you choose). This exciting and unique arrangement will be a favorite for your band and audiences alike! 5-4-4-3 (opt. 5th trombone).

As recorded by the Stan Kenton Orchestra on Viva-Kenton, this delightful Latin chart has solo space for tenor saxophone and features a very hip melody by Gene Roland. Gene wrote many, many hit records for the Kenton band, and this piece is sure to become a part of library of all Kenton lovers. 5-5-5-3.

Originally recorded by the Count Basie Orchestra on their album Afrique, 'Kilimanjaro' is a mesmerizing, easy-feeling Latin composition which pulses along by the constant tumbao bass groove and infectious percussion. Featuring flute and trumpet on the melody, Oliver Nelson's composition has a very bluesy touch and allows for solos as you choose. Moderate brass ranges (highest note for trumpet is a written D), a written out bass line throughout, and flexible solos makes this outstanding piece playable by most any band. 5-4-4-4 (opt. Graettinger arranged this standard in his most unusual way, using dissonance offset with the beauty of this gorgeous melody. It is a trombone solo pretty much throughout the entire ballad. Great writing for the soloist and the trombone section as well. This is something quite different and quite wonderful. 5-5-5-2.

Here is another one of Johnny Richards' great latin tunes as written for the Stan Kenton Orchestra. This lilting 5/4 chart has a great groove and amazing ensemble writing, with solo space for alto, trumpet, and trombone. This new arrangement makes the piece much easier to play and can be played with traditional instrumentation. Quintile is a part of the Adventures in Time CD.

Dreamin' Out Loud is a very accessible calypso chart that is reminiscent of Sonny Rollins's well known calypso tunes. An introductory chorale gives way to a happy, toe-tapping groove over which a tuneful melody is presented. The basic chord progression will accommodate multiple soloists. Great vehicle for exploring different rhythms and providing variety to a concert or festival program. Outstanding!

As recorded by the Oliver Nelson Orchestra, 'Ku-Damm' is the 1st movement of the Impressions of Berlin suite. Based on the blues, as so much of Oliver's music was, this bright swing (waltz feel) starts with an aggressive line for woodwind doubles and adds to its intensity with the entrance of the trumpets a short while later. There is solo space for alto saxophone, trombone, and piano. This lively, moving composition is sure to bring an exciting contrast to any program! 5-4-4-3 (opt. 5th trombone).

This is a new edition (Finale computer notation) of this lovely bossa nova tune. Curnow uses flugelhorns to create a warm, lush, lyrical melody that floats in and out of various counter lines. There is a tenor sax solo which is followed by a marvelous full ensemble passage. The melody returns and takes things out to the end. Very reasonable ranges (1st tpt. high Db only) and rhythms make this very playable by most bands.
