Dan has created a wonderful Rock Ballad, with a nifty, repeating vamp figure, that can be played by even the most inexperienced players. He has managed to do this without compromising the music. The chart is wonderful! The melody is stated by 2 Altos, Trumpet and Trombone in unison, and it grooves on from there. VERY limited ranges (1st Tpt. written G top of staff) Solos for Alto Sax, Tenor Sax and Trumpet. Solos are written out, or they can be improvised as well. Your band will love it! 5-4-4-4.

Much like Neil Hefti's Li'l Darlin', this Billy Byers original exemplifies quiet, warm ensemble writing at its finest. There is also the contrast of a strong shout section before returning to the quieter approach. This was recorded by the Count Basie Orchestra on the album Count Basie's Finest Hour (originally Basie Land). Set as a medium-slow swing feel, there are solos for trumpet and piano. In this edited version, the arrangement is almost exactly like the original, except the solos are written out, the high trumpet parts are adjusted, and the saxophone parts have been simplified a bit. 5-4-4-4.

This is a gorgeous feature for tenor saxophone (there is also a piano solo). Sensuous, warm, lush ..... all those good things. Set in a slow bossa-nova style, this lyrical piece will please your players and audiences alike. Very modest brass ranges (high D for tpt. 1) and easy rhythms make this chart very playable and attractive for just about any band. 5-4-4-4 (Opt. 10 brass).

One of the great pieces written for the Los Angeles Neophonic Orchestra, founded and conducted by Stan Kenton. Four french horns are essential, along with 4 trumpets, 5 trombones and woodwinds. Exciting and challenging music. Recorded on the L.A. Neophonic Orchestra LP. Woodwinds require 2 piccolo, 2 clarinets and bass saxophone (baritone saxophone opt. part included). This is a new, updated Finale version.

This amazing work was commissioned by the I.A.J.E, ASCAP and the Dizzy Gillespie Commissions and was premiered at the IAJE Conference in New York City. It is a piece approximately 12 minutes in length, with solos for trombone, baritone saxophone, piano and others. This is Holman's newest work, and it should stand as one of his most interesting, creative and exciting works to date. 5-4-4-3.

This chart was originally written for Charlie Parker to perform with the Stan Kenton Orchestra. Eventually it was recorded by Lee Konitz. The ensemble writing is very playable with no range concerns in the brass. If you have a great alto saxophone player (the solo is mostly chord symbols), this is an easy tune to put together with your band and will be a spectacular addition to any concert program. 5-5-5-3.

Short, sweet and swingin'! Willie Maiden's arrangement of I'll Be Seeing You packs a whopper in a tiny box, making this chart perfect as an encoure closer for any set. As recorded by Maynard Ferguson and his orchestra on the album Dancing Sessions, Willie's arrangement makes great use of the trombone section as they carry the melody upfront before passing it around to the rest of the band. There is some space for a short trumpet solo before the band comes roaring in at the end to take it out with a punch! This chart should be in every band's library! 5-4-4-3 (opt. original instrumentation available as 4-4-2-3).
