Bob has created an absolutely thrilling 12 minute work, inspired by his Celtic roots (Towednack is a small area in Cornwall, England). The Celtic influence is heard in the triple-meter settings and the interlude which reflects back on a Riverdance style of music. Tenor sax is featured. Very much in the genre of his Metheny/Mays charts of the past. Commissioned by Riverside Community College (CA) Performed at the August, 1999 Kenton Sounds concert in Los Angeles. No w.w. doubles. Here is a slow, gutty, down-home type of blues written for and recorded by the Stan Kenton Orchestra on the Adventures In Blues album. There is open solo space for tenor, trumpet and piano. Once the solos are over, the full ensemble comes roaring in to take the chart to a strong, sensational ending. Your audiences will love this tune! 5-5-5-3.

Powerhouse rock and a huge sound make this a real winner at the medium-easy level! Trombones and tenors get the melody first, with the altos and trumpets taking over at the bridge. The open solo section for any instrument is over a 2-chord vamp, but one simple scale is all the soloist(s) need to sound impressive. The shout chorus drives it home to a powerful ending. This one rocks hard, but plays easy!

Bob Curnow has a way of picking out the Metheny tunes that work so well in a big band setting. This chart is based on a bright, happy tune of Pat's. The medium tempo and contemporary feel make this a very delightful chart. There is solo space for alto sax (or guitar, or whomever you wish) 5-4-4-4.
