This is another great Oliver Nelson chart (it swings like crazy!). It starts in 3/4 and then goes to 4/4 and has a wonderful feel and flow as it moves through the different sections. The piece has very limited brass ranges with some optional octave writing in the trumpet 1 part. There is solo space for alto saxophone, trumpet, piano and drums. This big band arrangement was adapted by Bob Curnow from the original small band version as recorded on Oliver Nelson Plays Michelle (Impulse). 5-4-4-4.

Short, sweet and swingin'! Willie Maiden's arrangement of I'll Be Seeing You packs a whopper in a tiny box, making this chart perfect as an encoure closer for any set. As recorded by Maynard Ferguson and his orchestra on the album Dancing Sessions, Willie's arrangement makes great use of the trombone section as they carry the melody upfront before passing it around to the rest of the band. There is some space for a short trumpet solo before the band comes roaring in at the end to take it out with a punch! This chart should be in every band's library! 5-4-4-3 (opt. original instrumentation available as 4-4-2-3).

Another amazing, exciting chart has been added to the Pat Metheny Series! Bob Curnow's arrangement of Metheny/Mays' composition Stranger In Town hits you in the face right from the start and ends in the same manner. With typical Metheny/Mays flavor, there is a musical shift in the middle as solo space for tenor saxophone emerges, followed by a full ensemble interlude which then takes us to a peak ending. Originally recorded by PMG on their album We Live Here, Curnow has once again masterfully arranged this tune to fit perfectly in a big band setting! 5-4-4-4.

This Oliver Nelson melody was originally recorded with a small group. Bob Curnow took this great tune and arranged it for big band in a very hip way! Set in an easy swing feel, this chart has quite a bluesy feel to it while providing a nice variation to the standard blues changes that you might not expect. There is solo space for alto saxophone, trombone and piano. In this pro (original) version, you will find Oliver Nelson's amazing solo transcribed and arranged as a trumpet soli. Very cool and fun to play! If you like Oliver Nelson's music, you'll love this chart! 5-4-4-3.

Written for and recorded by the Maynard Ferguson Birdland Dream Band, this chart by Willie Maiden is uncharacteristically easy to play for the band due to very reasonable brass ranges. However, this is a 2 tenor saxophone and 2 trombone feature throughout. While quite a bit of the solos are written out, there is also a lot of space for improvisation. This is one of Willie's most delightful pieces scored for Maynard. 5-4-4-3.

Bill Holman wrote some of the best music played by the Stan Kenton Orchestra and Boop Boo Be Doop is surely one of those charts. The melody is scored for four horns within the big band setting, and those four horns (alto, tenor, trumpet, trombone) are also the featured soloists. As recorded on The Concepts Era - Live!, this chart represents Holman's ability to write swinging, exciting music for big band. 5-5-5-3.

Radiohead released '2+2=5' on their sixth album Hail to the Thief in 2003. Florian Ross' dazzling big band arrangement will put your band's dramatic range to the test! Players must be able to whisper gently on either end of the chart and rock out madly in between. Your ensemble and your audience will thank you for programming it -- and your guitarist will LOVE you!!! 5-4-4-4.

This arrangement by Oliver Nelson is a gorgeous alto saxophone feature of Cole Porter's I Worship You. The alto player can either perform the solo part (completely written out) as originally played and recorded by Cannonball Adderley on his album Domination, or can choose to read the basic melody and improvise. There is also short solo space for piano. Clarinet doubles are required, but the ensemble writing is very playable. This is a great alto feature on a beautiful melody! 5-4-4-3.

This is a lovely, cool, easy-swing chart that explores linear material as written for and recorded by the North Texas One O'clock Lab Band (Lab 2013). Flute and bass clarinet doubles are required, and the drummer is featured throughout with brushes. This piece has the feel of a theme and variations, and contains very rich harmonies and voicings. 5-4-4-4.

This edited version of Where's Teddy (as played and recorded by Maynard Ferguson's Birdland Dream Band) is much more playable for the trumpet section as a whole than the original pro version (which is also available). However, everything else is the same and it does not sacrifice any of the original chart's style and charm. It is a medium-swing minor blues tune with solo space for trumpet, tenor saxophone and drums. 5-4-4-3.

This chart was originally written for Charlie Parker to perform with the Stan Kenton Orchestra. Eventually it was recorded by Lee Konitz. The ensemble writing is very playable with no range concerns in the brass. If you have a great alto saxophone player (the solo is mostly chord symbols), this is an easy tune to put together with your band and will be a spectacular addition to any concert program. 5-5-5-3.

Here is a slow, gutty, down-home type of blues written for and recorded by the Stan Kenton Orchestra on the Adventures In Blues album. There is open solo space for tenor, trumpet and piano. Once the solos are over, the full ensemble comes roaring in to take the chart to a strong, sensational ending. Your audiences will love this tune! 5-5-5-3.

As recorded by the Maynard Ferguson Orchestra on New Sounds of Maynard Ferguson, This Willie Maiden arrangement takes a great tune and puts it in an up-tempo swing setting. The chart has a bop-like melody performed as a duet by the alto saxophone and trumpet at the beginning, and then moves into the ensemble. There is a solo for alto saxophone, followed by a roaring shout chorus. There is some high trumpet work (a la Maynard), with optional lower notes included. As always, Willie gives us another incredible arrangement sure to be loved by all audiences! 5-4-4-3.
