Jupiter Hymn is a beautiful, easy-to-play arrangement from the wonderful fourth movement of the seven-part orchestral suite The Planets by Gustav Holst: Jupiter, the Bringer of Jollity. Holst took inspiration for this suite?one of his best-known works?from the astrological aspect of the planets rather than their astronomical or physical characteristics. Holst wrote The Planets at the beginning of the 20th century, at a time when certain features of the work, such as exotic time signatures (5/4), dissonances and unusual instrumentation were uncommon.Jupiter Hymn is een mooie, eenvoudig speelbare bewerking van het schitterende vierde deel uit de zevendelige orkestsuite The Planets van Gustav Holst: â??Jupiter - The Bringer of Jollityâ??. Reflections was composed for the Japanese Trombone Quartet Zipang. The composer was so impressed by the quality of the quartet’s ensemble playing, blend and balance that he wanted to write a piece that would exploit these factors to the full. So the work is almost ‘conversational’, with the four players assuming equal roles and separately moving the musical argument forward. Reflections is na Tokyo Tryptich het tweede werk dat in opdracht van het Japanse trombonekwartet Zipang geschreven werd. Ge nspireerd door het uitgebalanceerde samenspel van de muzikanten, schreef Philip Sparke een werkwaarbij hij de nadruk legt op dit talent. Reflections, è dopo Tokyo Tryptich il secondo brano commissionato a Philip Sparke dal Quartetto di Tromboni Zipang. Impressionato dalle qualit del quartetto, Sparke ha composto un brano che lo valorizzasse ulteriormente.

Capriccio in B-flat, BWV 992 is an early keyboard work, first performed at age 19 when his brother Johann Jacob travelled to become an oboist in the army of Charles XII of Sweden. The 12-minute work for 4-part Trombone ensemble is appropriate for advanced performers. Dr. Marcellus has dedicated his arrangement to the memory of the late Steve Witser, his former student and colleague who was Principal Trombonist with the Los Angeles Philharmonic. The work is separated into six sections titled:1. Arioso: Adagio - His friends try to persuade him not to undertake the journey2. Andante - His friends tell him of the various misfortunes that may befall him abroad3. Adagiosissimo - The general lament of his friends4. Andante con moto - His friends come, since they see that it must be, and take leave of him5. Posthorn Aria6. Fugue in Imitation of the Posthorn.
