Christmas is full of customs and traditions, both old and new. This is especially evident in Christmas songs, some of which have been part of Christian worship for centuries. A Medieval Christmas combines three ancient melodies that are stillpopular around the world today. Philip Sparke chose Gaudete, a song of praise from the middle ages, Coventry Carol, an English song from the 14th century, and In dulci jubilo, which can also be traced back to the 14th century, toform this joyous suite.Kerst is een feest van tradities en gebruiken. In A Medieval Christmas staan drie oude melodieën centraal diewereldwijd nog steeds populair zijn. Het zijn het middeleeuwse loflied Gaudete, het Engelse Coventry Carol en het bekende In dulci jubilo.Weihnachten ist auch ein Fest des Brauchtums und der Tradition. Dies zeigt sich ganz besonders in den Weihnachtsliedern, die oft schon seit Jahrhunderten einen zentralen Platz in der christlichen Kultur einnehmen. A Medieval Christmasverwendet drei dieser alten Melodien, die sich heute noch weltweit größter Beliebtheit erfreuen: das mittelalterliche Loblied Gaudete, das englische Coventry Carol aus dem 14. This terrific melody by the 19th century French composer Adolph Adam is one of the worldâ??s most famous Christmas solo melodies. It is unique due to the fact that it was the only Christmas song recorded by the legendary opera singer Enrico Caruso. This arrangement for soprano cornet and brass band will make a fantastic touching addition to any Christmas carol. Dieses Werk des französischen Komponisten des 19. Jahrhunderts Adolphe Adam ist wohl die bekannteste Solokomposition für Weihnachten. Darüber hinaus ist dies auch das einzige Weihnachtslied, dem die Ehre zuteil wurde, vom berühmten Opernstar Enrico Caruso aufgenommen zu werden. Stephen Bulla machte aus dem Original ein wunderschönes Solowerk für Soprankornett und Brass Band.

English and Dutch choral parts are also availble for this work.Deze fantasie over kerstliederen werd voor het eerst uitgevoerd in 1983 door het Hope College Choir, Holland Community Choral, orkest en orgel tijdens een concert en televisie opname in het Amerikaanse Holland-Michigan. Tegelijkertijdmaakte Jan de Haan een transcriptie voor ha/fa/bra waardoor het werk zowel instrumentaal als met koor (SATB) en/of orgel ad libitum uitvoerbaar is.Jan de Haan maakte in Christmas Fantasy gebruik van de liederen: Esist ein Ros’ entsprungen, O Little Town of Bethlehem, Once in Royal David’s City, The Herald Angels Sing, God Rest Ye Merry Getlemen en Good King Wenceslas. The German Christmas song Von Himmel hoch, O Englein kommt is one of the oldest known German carols, with the earliest versions, also known as Susani, going back to the 14th century. This exceptional arrangement by Jan de Haan works extremely well for brass band and will make an ideal work for any Christmas concert. Jan de Haan schrieb dieses besondere Arrangement des deutschen Weihnachtsliedes Vom Himmel hoch, o Englein kommt. In vierstimmigen Sätzen ist es für alle Arten von Orchester und Ensembles geeignet, so auch für Brass Band. Die Bearbeitung basiert auf dem gleichnamigen Weihnachtslied aus dem Cölner Gesangbuchâ?? von 1623, herausgegeben von Peter von Brachel.

The title of this clever arrangement reveals the Christmas song it is based on. The melody can be traced back to a French folksong from the 18th century which is now known around the world. In France it is called Les anges dans nos campagnes, in Germany it is most widely known as Engel auf den Feldern singen and in England it was originally called Angels From the Realms of Glory but it often known as Angels We Have Heard on High. Everyone will rejoice upon hearing the ‘Gloria in excelsis Deo’ refrain!Hinter diesem Titel verbirgt sich ein neues Arrangement für Brass Band des alten französischen Weihnachtsliedes Les anges dans nos campagnes aus dem Frankreich des 18. Jahrhunderts. In Deutschland kennt man es (u. a.) als Engel auf den Feldern singen, in England existiert neben dem oben genannten Titel auch die Version Angels We Have Heard on High. Allen gemeinsam ist der markante Refrain Gloria in excelsis Deo“ der dem Lied seinen besonders erhabenen, festlichen Charakter verleiht.Angels from the realms of Glory è uno dei più celebri e dei più bei canti natalizi. Questo splendido arrangiamento inizia su un’introduzione festiva che accompagna verso l’esposizione del tema in forma di corale. Segue un intermezzo dalle sonorit ampie e generose, che precede le riprese del corale di apertura dagli accenti gioiosi. Il brano si conclude in modo maestoso per rappresentare l’atmosfera meravigliosa e incantata che caratterizza il Natale.
