At the beginning of the 1980s Alison Moyet was discovered by Vince Clarke, who - in search of greater independence - had left the successful band Depeche Mode. The soulful singing style of Moyet and the electronic, innovative pop that Clarke made melded well together in the group Yazoo with hits such as Only You and Don’t Go. However, after a number of years Moyet went her own way and forged a solo career, during which she demonstrated a somewhat more traditional sound. She recorded several covers (such as The First Time I Ever Saw Your Face and That Ole Devil Called Love) but she also wrote fine songs herself, such as Love Resurrection and, of course, the expressive song AllCried Out. This arrangement by Peter Kleine Schaars does justice to the atmosphere of the original song.

Die erfolgreiche Karriere von Alison Moyet begann zu Beginn der 80er-Jahre mit der englischen Popgruppe Yazoo. Nach ein paar Jahren ging die Sängerin mit der starken Soulstimme jedoch eigene Wege und arbeitete an einer Solo-Karriere. Sie nahm einige Cover-Versionen auf, schrieb aber auch selbst schöne Lieder, darunter Love Resurrection und natürlich das ausdrucksvolle, unvergessene All Cried Out. Diese Bearbeitung von Peter Kleine Schaars wird der Stimmung des Originals vollkommen gerecht.

Scottish Dances is based on three Scottish traditionals: Cock of the North, The Bonnie Bank's O'Loch Lomond and Marie's Wedding.

I. Cock of the North's name is used for multiple things or events. For example for a locomotive to a famous, it seems, delicious liqueur, and rallies to snowboard competitions. Furthermore is Cock O' the North a nickname of a famous Duke. (The 4th Duke of Gordon).
In this composition Cock of the North (a Jig) is a traditional Scottish bagpipe tune, regularly played on tattoos by Pipe Bands. Not infrequently the drummers sing the text.

II. The Bonnie Bank's O'Loch Lomond is about a sad story that took place during an revolt against the British. In 1745 Bonnie Prince Charlie had to retreat. Two of his men were captured. One was convicted and executed, while the other was released. The spirit of the executed soldier would arrive in Scotland via the 'low road' (underworld) before his companion, who had still a long way to go.

III. In a Scottish wedding, after the official ceremonies, there is often danced. This is called a ceilidh. For this we use traditional Scottish music such as Marie's Wedding '.
Mid dance we go back to the church, where a lovely song in honor of the couple sounds.
Marie's Wedding has been recorded by Van Morrison (among many others).

Scottish Dances is gebaseerd op drie Schotse traditionals: Cock of the North, The Bonnie Bank's O'Loch Lomond en Marie's Wedding.

I. De naam Cock of the North wordt voor meerdere dingen of evenementen gebruikt. Van een beroemdelocomotief tot een, naar het schijnt, een heerlijke likeur, en van rally's tot snowboard wedstrijden. Bovendien was 'Cock O' the North' een bijnaam van een bekende hertog. (the 4th Duke of Gordon)
Het in deze compositiegebruikte Cock of the North (een Jig) is een traditioneel Schotse bagpipe tune (doedelzak liedje) wat regelmatig gespeeld wordt op taptoes door Pipebands. Niet zelden zingen de slagwerkers de tekst mee.

II. 'The Bonnie Bank's O'Loch Lomond', gaat over een triest verhaal dat zich afspeelde tijdens een opstand tegende Engelsen. In 1745 moest Bonnie Prince Charlie zich terugtrekken. Twee van zijn mannen werden gevangen genomen. Eén van hen werd veroordeeld en geexecuteerd, terwijl de ander vrijgelaten werd. De geest van de geexecuteerde soldaatzou via de 'low road' (onderwereld) eerder in Schotland aankomen dan zijn kameraad, die nog een lange ruige weg te gaan had.

III. Bij een Schotse bruiloft wordt na de officiele plechtigheden vaak gedanst. Dit noemt men een ceilidh. Hiervoor gebruiktmen traditionele Schotse muziek zoals bijv. 'Marie's Wedding'.
Halverwege de dans gaan we nog even terug naar de kerk, waar een lieflijk lied ter ere van het bruidspaar klinkt.

Who doesn’t know the children’s TV series Thunderbirds. The Gerry Anderson classic is still as popular today with both children and adults as when it was first shown in the sixties. This arrangement of the theme tune will be loved by all and will leave your audience humming it all the way home.

Thunderbirds ist eine legendäre englische Fernsehserie aus den Sechzigern über einen futuristischen, weltweit operierenden Rettungsdienst. Die Serie, in der die Figuren von Puppen gespielt werden, genießt heute Kultstatus. Ihren Erfolg verdankt sie nicht zuletzt Barry Grays Musik im Stil der großen amerikanischen Kinofilme. Kazuhiro Morita verwendete das Hauptthema der Serie für dieses ausgezeichnete Arrangement.

Thunderbirds (Les sentinelles de l’air) est une série télévisée d'animation britannique créée, dans les années 1960, par Gerry Anderson. Particularité de cette série légendaire : les héros étaient des marionnettes, membres d’une organisation futuriste, appelée la « Sécurité Internationale » (« International Rescue »). Ce programme culte doit son succès en partie la musique de Barry Gray, écrite dans un style proche des musiques des grandes fresques cinématographiques américaines. Un retour aux souvenirs d’enfance !

An unintended play on words on the title of Mozart's famous composition forms the basis of this solo piece. It was composed in 2004 by the Scottish composer, Bruce Fraser, and features a solo for flugel or cornet. It is not a very difficult piece for both the soloist and the band, but is that always necessary? A lovely, highly recommended intermezzo for your concert.

Een 'onbedoelde' woordspeling met een bekend werk van Mozart staat aan de basis van dit solowerkje. Het werk is in 2004 gecomponeerd door de Schotse componist Bruce Fraser en brengt de flugel of cornet als solo-instrument voor hetvoetlicht. Voor solist(e) en orkest niet erg moeilijk maar moet dat dan? Een heerlijk intermezzo en een aanrader voor uw concert.
