Marching Blues was written in the blues and swing-jazz style of the great big bands. It is an ideal show march that can be used for encores, popular performances, family concerts and much more. According to his teachers, Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky (1840-1893), was not particularly gifted. His special talents were acknowledged only in 1865 when he had been working for the Ministry of Finances for some years.
In 1866 he was appointed teacher at the Conservatory and applied himself to composing. His oeuvre is fairly extensive and many of his compositions receive a high ranking on the international list of classical music, including his six symphonies, solo concertos (violin concerto and piano concertos), ballets (The Nut Cracker, Swan Lake), and his overtures (1812 and Romeo and Juliette).
In 1893 Tchaikovsky died of Cholera after drinking a glass of infectedwater.

His Slavonic March is a popular concert piece for symphonic orchestra that is still frequently performed in concert halls.
David Well arranged the theme and created a contemporary march in rock style.

Tchaikovsky once said to an unsatisfied teacher: ‘I will be a great composer within 10 years time.’

Volgens zijn leraren was Pjotr Iljitsj Tsjaikovski (1840-1893) niet bijzonder begaafd. Zijn speciale talenten werden alleen erkend in 1865, toen hij enkele jaren had gewerkt voor het ministerie van Financiën.
In 1866 werd hijbenoemd tot docent aan het Conservatorium en legde zich toe op het componeren. Zijn oeuvre is vrij uitgebreid en veel van zijn composities krijgen een hoge ranking op de internationale lijst van klassieke muziek, met inbegrip vanzijn zes symfonieën, soloconcerten (viool en piano), balletten (De Notenkraker, Het Zwanenmeer), en zijn ouvertures (1812 en Romeo en Juliette).
In 1893 is Tsjaikovski gestorven aan cholera na het drinken van een glas van besmetwater.

Zijn Slavische Mars is een populair concertwerk voor symfonie orkest.
David Well maakte een mooi arrangement van het thema en creëerde een mars in een hedendaagse rock stijl.

Tchaikovsky zei ooittegen een ontevreden leraar: 'Ik zal een groot componist zijn binnen 10 jaar tijd'.

Patrick Millstone composed his 'Discovery March' for Gobelin Music Publications' 'Discovery Series' : The music in this series is meant to be a journey of discovery for incipient musicians who have started playing in an ensemble. 'Discovery March' is a cheerful march in which the melody part is not only played by the lead instrument, but rather by all instruments in turn.

Citadel’s Destiny is a march that can be performed either in concert or on parade. It was commissioned by the Musique de l’Infanterie de Lille. A special feature is that it adheres to the conventional codes of military marches, albeit with a modern twist. The title refers to the citadel built by Vauban in Lille, “The Queen of Citadels”, with which the band shares a destiny. This march is still performed by the Infantry Band as part of their traditional concert repertoire.

Citadel’s Destiny kan dienen als loopmars, maar is ook geschikt voor een concert. Het werk is geschreven in opdracht van la Musique de l’Infanterie de Lille. Een speciaal kenmerk: het is gemaakt volgens de conventionele voorschriften voor militaire marsen, maar dan met een moderne twist. De titel verwijst naar de door Vauban gebouwde citadel in Lille, ‘La Reine des Citadelles’, waarmee de band een lotsbestemming deelt. Deze mars wordt nog steeds uitgevoerd door la Musique de l’Infanterie, als onderdeel van het traditionele concertrepertoire.

Der Titel bezieht sich auf die von Vauban erbaute Zitadelle in Lille, die Königin der Zitadellen“, mit der die Brass Band ein gemeinsames Schicksal verbindet. Dieser Marsch zählt noch immer zum traditionellen Konzertrepertoire der Musique de l Infanterie.

Citadel’s Destiny est une marche qui peut être interprétée en concert ou en défilé. Elle a été commandée par la Musique de l’Infanterie de Lille. Elle a la particularité de respecter les codes conventionnels des marches militaires tout en ayant une touche de modernité. Son titre fait référence la citadelle construite par Vauban Lille, « La Reine des Citadelles », avec laquelle l’orchestre a une destinée commune. Cette marche est encore aujourd’hui jouée par la Musique de l’Infanterie dans le cadre de son répertoire de concert traditionnel.

Artemis is the Greek goddess of hunting and forests. In western art she is often pictured with deer, lions or bears with a bow in her hand. The tempo of this march is stately and the themes are “concertante” in character making Artemis best suited as a concert march rather than a street march. Technically this march is not too difficult although at times some dexterous fingering is necessary. The trio melody is especially lyrical and offers various sections within the band the possibility to show off their skill in playing the expressive melody. This excellent new concert march is sure to become a classic and be performed time and time again.

Het tempo van deze mars is statig en de thema’s zijn concertant van karakter: Artemis is dus eerder geschikt als concertmars dan als loopmars. Technisch is dit werk niet erg lastig om spelen, al wordt af en toe wel wat vingervaardigheidvereist. De triomelodie is echter uitgesproken lyrisch en biedt diverse secties binnen het orkest de mogelijkheid om zich melodisch en expressief te etaleren. Een aangenaam klinkende en prima speelbare concertmars!

Artemis ist die griechische Göttin der Jagd und der Wälder. Jan Van der Roost ließ sich zum wiederholten Male von der griechischen Mythologie inspirieren und komponierte diesen Marsch mit gemäßigtem Tempo und konzertanten Themen. Obwohl technisch nicht sehr schwer, erfordert er doch stellenweise etwas Fingerfertigkeit. Der Trio-Teil ist jedoch besonders lyrisch und bietet verschiedenen Registern die Möglichkeit, sich in Melodie und Ausdruck zu beweisen. Kurz gesagt ist Artemis ein ausgezeichneter und gut spielbarer Konzertmarsch, der viele Brass Bands anspricht.

Artémis est la déesse grecque de la nature sauvage et de la chasse. Dans l’art occidental, elle est souvent représentée armée d’un arc et de flèches et entourée de cerfs, de lions et d’ours. Évoluant sur un tempo majestueux et développant des thèmes au caractère concertant, Artemis s’inscrit pleinement dans la lignée des grandes marches de concert. Hormis quelques passages nécessitant une plus grande souplesse des doigts, elle ne contient que peu de difficultés techniques. Artemis est une pièce brillante qui convient au plus grand nombre d’Orchestres d’Harmonie.

Artemis è la Dea greca della natura selvatica e della caccia. Nella cultura occidentale, è spesso rappresentata armata di arco e frecce e circondata da cervi, leoni e orsi. Evolvendosi su un tempo maestoso e sviluppando temi centrali dal carattere concertante, Artemis rientra nella linea delle grandi marce da concerto. Ad eccezione di qualche passaggio che necessita una maggiore scioltezza delle dita, il brano contiene solo poche difficolt tecniche. Artemis è un pezzo brillante adatto alla maggior parte delle bande.

Durkle Bandrydge is the name of the composers imaginary world, but it could very well be anyones invisible dream world with a different name. In this very versatile suite by Bruce Fraser, 8 characters are featured, each with its ownpeculiarities, making Durkle Bandrydge such a colourful place. Do these characters differ that much from us? That is for you to find out! In the last part, all characters come together in a special way.

Durkle Bandrydge exists at the end ofyour street. It is invisible to humans, but Durkle Bandrygators can watch us with great interest.
The music will introduce you to some of the characters who live in this unusual place.

The parts:
Somnanbulyss, who is a giant trollguarding the entrance to Durkle Bandryde. At least, he is supposed to, but he tends to sleep most of the time. His music is therefore very slow moving and sleepy.

Long Gwysteen is a tall, mysterious, and somehow sophisticated character,who walls around with a shell on his back. His music glides along rather gracefully.

Squelfitch is a rather unpleasant and smelly character who lives in a bog, which is why his music sounds rather slimy and a bit like trying to walkthrough quicksand.

Perfydlia is a meddling old woman, who gossips about everybody and squeals with sudden delight at the small exciting bits of tittletattle about others in the village. In the music you can hear her sudden little squealsof delight.

Maryann Lovely is a beautiful young lady, graceful, gorgeous, absolutely devine, and her music is obviously just the same.

Thistledoo Nicely is a lively character who spends and spends and spends with her credit card,buying the latest fashion and never worries about having to pay the bills. Her music reflects her excitement when shopping and het ‘happy go lucky’ approach to life.

Marsyn Edginton is the Lord of the manor, the richest man in town, the‘big cheese’, the man with all the power and, of course, the biggest house. He is very grand and his music like he could be a king.

Jimmy McScotsmyn is a red haired scotsman wearing tartan cap. He misses his home country terribly and eatslots of shortbread, oatcakes, scotch eggs, porridge and drinks an enormous amount of Scotch Wisky, which helps him to have fond memories of the kind of music he would like to dance to when he was a younger man. His favourite dance is a Jig andthis is the music he remembers.

Grand March of the Durkle Bandrydgators. We hope that you have enjoyed meeting these characters from Drukle Bandrydge and would invite you to listen to all the villagers now march along in a grand parade -it is a pity that you can not see them, what is a wonderful sight.
If you listen carefully, you will hear the melodies which belong to the characters as they march past.
