The first movement of my Piano Quintet is filled with drama and passion. Its atmosphere can be related to my Second Symphony Johannes Angelos. The second movement is a set of polyphonic variations in a form reminiscent of a passacaglia. The music seems to be hypnotized by a theme consisting of a chromatic cluster of ten notes. In the beginning of the last movement, materials from the previous movements start to reappear, but this time in a mysterious, incoherent way. The strings find new music resembling a fragmented hymn. Fast-moving triplets start to appear and the music reaches a joyful and ecstatic conclusion. Olli Mustonen.

In 1983, my friend and colleague Arnt Martin made me read and listen to a most interesting piece of music for soprano, viola d'amore and strings, this work called my attention to the viola d'amore. In the following year, I became more and more absorbed in the possibilities this instrument offers and in 1985 decided to write a morceau d'ensemble including a viola d'amore. Thus birth was given to Mysterion, a composition for which these five musicians seem tailormade. As to content, Mysterion represents a reflection on death. The title of the piece refers to the Agama, a fundamental holy scripture of early Buddhism. The young composer says about it: 'The basic ideas of these writings were a source of my inspiration. The compositional material corresponds to my own musical language and is strongly linked to the spirit and concept of these Buddhist writings.'The result is a very lively and spirited interplay of the musical passages among the different instruments. The piece is a harmonious blend of Chinese contemporary music and distinct reminiscences of tradition.

The pianist, composer, arranger and cabaret artist Peter Ludwig is an all-round talent from Bavaria. He writes film music, chansons, chamber music, piano music, and, above all, beautiful inspired tangos bridging the gap between South America and Europe. Together with the cellist Anja Lechner, he received the award of the German Phono Academy for his CD 'Tango mortale' in the 1980s. Since then, he has not been able to get the tango out of his mind, and today he performs as a pianist of the piano trio 'Tango a trois'. The tangos for violoncello and piano are a valuable addition to the cello repertoire and also perfect for concert performances.
