The Everlasting Voices is the perfect blend of textural variety and harmonic interest for the advanced treble ensemble. Employing a powerful text, Baas' vocal layering coupled with piano and optional cello make this compelling piece a programming must!.O sweet everlasting Voices, be still; Go to the guards of the heavenly fold And bid them wander obeying your will, Flame under flame, till Time be no more; Have you not heard that our hearts are old, That you call in birds, in wind on the hill, In shaken boughs, in tide on the shore? O sweet everlasting Voices, be still. This SSAA choral work by Jimmy Baas was comissioned by the Lumberton HS Varsity Treble Choir. The opening and closing lines of the poem, O sweet everlasting voices, be still provide the perfect bookends for two larger sections of the poem. These two sections are equally divided into verses. The opening line is used once again as a transition between the verses. The previously mentioned lines, O sweet everlasting voices, are overlapped as different layers of voices enter and sustain. A fifth and sixth voice, the cello and piano accompaniment take part in these layers as well. The words be still are very much a part of the mood each time as the everlasting voices become quiet and still. The two verses feature different voices within the SSAA choir. Verse 1, the sopranos, and verse 2 the altos. There are many moments in this piece to explore the full range and color of the SSAA choir. The piano and cello play an important part throughout, making this piece an excellent choice for any festival women's chorus.O sweet everlasting Voices, be still;Go to the guards of the heavenly foldAnd bid them wander obeying your will,Flame under flame, till Time be no more;Have you not heard that our hearts are old,That you call in birds, in wind on the hill,In shaken boughs, in tide on the shore?O sweet everlasting Voices, be still. This SSAA choral work by Jimmy Baas wascomissioned by the Lumberton HS Varsity Treble Choir. The opening and closing lines of the poem, “O sweeteverlasting voices, be still†provide the perfect bookendsfor two larger sections of the poem. Acceleration, deceleration, and the inconsistent nature of time are at the heart of Piano Trio The Chronophage by Tom Coult. Throughout the 17-minute work, cello and piano lines constantly speed up or slow down relative to one another, while the violin has only one role---to accelerate throughout. The listener feels clunky gear changes, as previously reliable demarcations of time seem unsteady, even unsafe. The trio's subtitle comes from The Corpus Clock in Cambridge, a clock that plays with exactly this perception. Completely accurate every five minutes, the clock lurches unevenly from second to second, the grinding mechanism driven by the terrifying metal insect escapement known as the Chronophage (from the Greek meaning of time-eater).

As a prestigious composer of the late 18th century, Luigi Boccherini's (1743-1805) Rondo, transcribed for the cello by Paul Bazelaire, contains many features which continue to make the composer's music popular and loved to this day. Known for his courtly, gallant style, Rondo, originally composed for violin and harpsichord, clearly exemplifies these qualities through the 2/4 time signature, flourishing cello lines and evocative, chordal and rhythmic Piano accompaniment. Moreover, syncopation rhythms and ornamentation heard throughout the piece create further excitement. All of these musical elements combine to create a highly enjoyable piece for the cello repertoire. In addition, the clear print of separate cello and piano parts in this edition of Rondo add to this irresistable purchase for budding cellists.

A true Grand Duo for cello and piano to provide a much needed connection between the first sonatas for this combination -- by Beethoven -- and the later 19th century repertoire. Eberl's heroic style provides a masterly alternative to the over familiar works, with the balance of power between the two players scrupulously maintained throughout, and ingenious formal innovations. The Rhapsodie finale in particular, with sections in varying metres and moods, resolves in an elegant Pastorale, an entirely new format for this combination. The composer thoughtfully provided an adaptation of the cello part for violin containing many differences which will be of interest to players of both instruments; both string parts are included in this publication.

Shchedrin's oeuvre spans nearly every musical genre, and it is hardly surprising that an output of such versatility contains some rather remarkable instrumental combinations, for example Music from afar for 2 bass recorders, or Balalaika for a solo violin playing pizzicato throughout. This predilection for the unusual leads the composer in Parabola concertante with its basically subdued and contemplative mood to add a charcteristic counterpoint by contrasting the accompanying string orchestra with timpani. The piece was composed for master virtuoso Mstislav Rostropovitch, who played the solo part in the first performance at the International Cello Festival in Kronberg. Cello, string orchestra, and timpani. Piano reduction with solo part.

In the center of this work is the melody of the middle section Moon reflected on the Erquan Spring (Erquan Yingyue) composed 1949 bythe blind Erhu player Hua Yanjun. The melody rapidly spread throughout China and became a cultural symbol throughout the world. Asian conductor Seiji Ozawa heard it in 1978 saying that one can appreciate it only on bended knees.

Goltermann (1824-1898) left a plethora of works for his instrument, including seven cello concertos which sometimes go to the limitsof what was considered to be technically playable in his time. Even today, these works have maintained their importance throughout the methodological progress in literature. Apart from the concertos, Goltermann also composed a large number of character pieces, including romances, reveries, nocturnes and serenades. Stylistically wholly rooted in the Romantic spirit of their time, the pieces are relatively short and of medium difficulty as regards the technical demands. It is not least due to their melodic and harmonic catchiness that they enjoy a lasting popularity both in music lessons and in domestic concerts.

Friction, Pressure, Impact comprises three movements, each of which focuses on the question of musical metabolism in a different way. The first movement, Friction, has a moderately fast metabolism, working through the musical material between the instruments with some speed yet with a kind of compulsively controlled rate of evolution. Pressure has a much slower pace of working through its musical argument, which is relatively minimal. It moves heavily and sensuously through its course. Impact changes and shifts with a mercurial speed; although this movement has one single argument throughout, it is an argument that is constantly changing shape and perspective: phrase-lengths, local patterns, registers, and harmonic inversions are constantly in flux, pelting the music's surface like a hale storm.- Hannah Lash.
