Songs are part of the childhood. This collection aims to offer a variety of songs for string ensembles, such as young string orchestras or string classes. Included are older and newer songs, songs of various origins, and songs for different occasions and with themes ranging from animals to seasons and times of day to tongue-in-cheek scary subjects.Taking up the motif of diversity in their own way, the six-part arrangements are not confined to the usual cadence harmonies and accompaniment forms, There is something special to discover in each of the songs. Small vignettes with lyrics to them are found in the parts, and can be taken up in rehearsals and lessons. The songs begin with fingering positions and bowing techniques that are usually learned at the beginning of lessons, then gradually increase in difficulty, though the booklet as a whole is set at the elementary level. Suggestions for improvisation and pieces for practicing certain requirements round out the booklet. Special emphasis is placed on playing together - true to the title: Together on Strings!

First published in 1929, Stephen Deâakâs two-volume Modern Method for Cello remains a timeless resource for new and developing cellists at every stage of practice and performance. A student of David Popper, Deâak presents a thoughtful and thorough method for beginning cellists with a detailed focus on fundamentals, including posture and balance of the bow and left hand.Unlike many other methods, the Modern Method spends considerable time developing note-recognition and tone production by isolating a skill or concept in a single exercise. These include open string and bow distribution exercises, as well as systematic left hand practice focusing on one or two notes at a time. This careful approach in the beginning allows the new player to reinforce important right- and left-hand skills before attempting performance pieces.Sequential scales and exercises in various keys and positions are supplemented with songs and tuneful etudes, allowing the player to apply practical technique to expressive performance. These etudes are both pedagogical and performance-worthy, rich with musicality and charm. The musical and technical concepts presented in this method can be learned in any order at the teacherâs discretion to best serve the student.Revisions in this new edition include additional instruction, clarification of fingerings with shifting indications, updated melodies, and a beautiful new engraving. The wealth of practice and performance repertoire in The New Modern Method for Cello, Volume 1 makes this book a valuable addition to every cellistâs library.Volume 2 offers training in higher positions and thumb position, advanced left-hand and bowing techniques, and musical exercises including 29 concert studies. These etudes, often heard in recitals, were designed by Deâak as the perfect stepping stone to Popperâs High School of Cello Playing.

Vier Seiten for violoncello is an attempt to present an event that in reality takes about two seconds in extreme slow motion, thus making even the micromovements visible or audible beyond the straight line of motion. When I composed the piece, the fatal accident of Ayrton Senna came to my mind again and again - an accident which was shown on TV in slow motion again and again until it became unbearable. The fast motion of the car immediately before the crash into a concrete wall, a motion which was no longer purposeful but out of control and which had the car pulled to and fro and from side to side, was followed by that crash. In this extreme slow motion, it is no longer shown as a crash but as the fast telescoping of carbon fibre, metal and human body parts. After this crash, as a postlude so to speak, everything suddenly slowed down, tyres and automotive particles floating in the air, the torso of the vehicle swinging until the motion stopped. It was not until this moment that I realized that the whole presentation of the incident had been accompanied by paralyzing silence.- Thomas LarcherVier Seiten is a response to Ayrton Senna's fatal car accident, portrayed in slow motion, as it was repeatedly shown on television at the time. In this poignant work, a violent fast section represents the crash, followed by a long epilogue, reflecting the apparent stillness of the immediate aftermath.
