Raymond Briggs' 1978 children's picture book about a snowman come to life was made into a celebrated half-hour animated film in 1982. For the sequence in which the snowman flies with a boy named James to the North Pole, Howard Blake composed this haunting, minor-chord driven theme, layered with images of nature, mountains, forests and streams. Don't miss your chance to program this beautiful song with the accompanying string and percussion parts.

The traditional Christmas text and new music combine to create an introspective work filled with reverent mystery and rich emotion. Set in a rocking 6/8 and minor mode, the first verse opens with back and forth phrases between the women and men, leading into a contrasting homophonic section in the 2nd verse. Following a modulation, the original melodic material then returns for the final verse. Excellent for school, church and community concerts!

A folk-infused ballad celebrating the miracle of Hanukkah. Originally recorded by 90s pop sensation Lisa Loeb, this reflective change-of-pace choral features a rhythmic yet mellow accompaniment and straightforward but expressive vocal parts. Whether you perform with the guitar-inspired piano part, the optional SoundTrax CD, or a folk ensemble of your own, this is truly a special touch for holiday concerts.Because of changes in our school's schedule and the taking away of the music requirement in 7th and 8th grade, our choir numbers have dropped significantly. Searching for music that has educational value and that the choir will sound good on (we know that's important for the parents and faculty) I came across Light arranged by Andy Beck. This quickly became a favorite of my choir! The kids are excited to rehearse it every day and the sound they are achieving fits the folk-like feel of the piece. We are using the 2-Part version. Being 7th and 8th graders, of my nine boys, three are unchanged voices (singing alto as written) and my other six are in varying stages of voice change. Those six are bouncing back and forth between alto and soprano parts, singing them down an octave. Thank you for providing a great piece for the holiday season!Matt AlbrechtChoir DirectorCopley-Fairlawn Middle School

Although best known as the sixth President of the United States, John Quincy Adams’ great desire was to write poetry, upon hearing his words set to music by one of his contemporaries, he exclaimed his delight “as the organ pealed and the choir of voices sung the praise of Almighty God from the soul of David, adapted to my native tongue by me.†This setting was written for SAB choir, however, it could be sung by an SSA ensemble as well. The tune is original, but Meyer has written in the style of the music that Adams might have heard in his day.

Great SAB writing that is suitable for youth choirs but “meaty” enough for adult ensembles is not always easy to find. Not anymore!
