This edition of Salve Regina by Pierre Villette is a version of this Marian hymn for SATB a cappella. It's written with lyrics in Latin and should be sung at a slow tempo (52). The lyrical piece features a long introduction followed by the Soprano solo and a finale. At the end of the solo, the voices alternate between the initial tempo and some slower parts to arrive to the close and finish in harmony. Pierre Villette (1926-1998) was a French composer of choral and instrumental music. Strongly influenced by Catholicism, his musical heritage ran from Faure to Messiaen..

Both of the Kyrie settings in E flat major K. 322 (1778/79) and C major K. 323 (probably not prior to 1790) belong to those works by Mozart which were only handed down as incomplete draft scores. However, in both cases Mozart's original drafts were so extensive and well advanced that Abbe Maximilian Stadler, Mozart's friend and known from the history associated with the Requiem, could complete both settings. In 1830, for the first edition of the Kyrie K. 323 Stadler employed the text of the Marian Antiphon for Easter Regina coeli laetare for the vocal parts. The Carus edition presents both the original text (Kyrie), as well as the text from the first edition (Regina coeli), so that the work may be performed in the Mass or in the context of a solemn Vespers during the time of Easter. Joseph Haydn's Stabat Mater, written in 1767, was the first church work the composer wrote after entering the service of Prince Esterhazy in Eisenstadt. Unlike almost all his other sacred works, it soon circulated in numerous copies and established Haydn's reputation as the leading vocal composer of his day. This edition is based on three original copies of parts, which are regarded as being particularly close to the (missing) autograph manuscript because of the date they were made and the reliable transmission of the music text. As so, this great, moving setting of the Stabat Mater is now newly available in a modern, scholarly edition. The complete performance material is available on sale. Score available separately - see item CA.5199100.

Johann Sebastian Bach knew the value of good compositions by other composers, as is evidenced by contemporary accounts and by looking through the remains of his music library. However, in certain instances when copying works which he prepared for his own use he could seldom refrain from making corrections. In both of the following movements of the Missa Sancti Lambertie by Johann Christoph Pez Bach made only a few changes. With regard to his motive for copying out these rather simple movements, this may been due primarily to his inquisitiveness. In spite of their simplicity the vocal and instrumental parts are treated with ingenuity and the volume of sound is surprising, given the modest scoring. Score available separately - see item CA.3500600.

Popular hymn by Marty Haugen This Christmas hymn is exquisitely arranged for SATB choir with an optional woodwind quintet that further enhances the charm and elegance of this melodious setting. The poetic text retells the story in a fresh way, Holy Child within a manger, long ago yet ever near, come as friend to every stranger, come as hope for every fear..

The motet O Jesu, te invocamus arose through an adaptation of the text of the final chorus of Joseph Haydn's Applausus, a festive cantata composed in 1768. For church music performances, the Latin text O Jesu, te invocamus was closely attached to the primary text and often only single words were replaced. The German alternative text Allmachtiger, Preis dir und Ehre, for which there was neither a biblical nor a liturgical basis, was added to the Latin text. Score and parts available separately - see item CA.5199300.

Bach wrote the cantata Du wahrer Gott und Davids Sohn as a test piece in connection with his application for the position of Cantor of St. Thomas. For reasons unknown, Bach considered it necessary to use a cornett and three trombones to support the chorus - possibly this suggests the poor state of the St. Thomas choir after Kuhnau's death. New revised edition. Score and parts available separately - see item CA.3102300.

Majestic writing from beginning to end covers this equally grand text. Claiming the resurrection of Christ is a transcendent thought for the believer and the message of this anthem showcases the ministry of the Trinity with clarity and power. The music and text shout away any doubt and fully embrace this spiritual truth with soaring strains and towering harmonic moments. The entrance of the well-known “Crown Him with Many Crowns” is an immense moment, bringing the congregation into the colossal apex of this powerful statement of faith. Michael Haydn composed three of his masses in honor of the holy archangels - St Michael, St Gabriel, and the Raphaelismesse in honor of St Raphael now published. By avoiding the use of vocal soloists, it is one of the genre of Missa in pieno. Four trumpets and two ad lib oboe parts added later by the composer give the work a festive sound in the baroque tradition. At the same time, elements of the 'sensitive style' feature too. The Gloria and Credo exist in two settings, a short version with polytextual passages and a longer version arranged by Haydn himself. The Carus edition, based on authentic performance material in St. Peter's Monastery in Salzburg, contains both versions, with the longer version published here for the first time. Score available separately - see item CA.5408700.

Telemann's Missa brevis on the Christmas hymn Ein Kindelein so lobelich is one of eleven surviving Latin Missae breves based on church hymns. The motetlike composition calls for a mixed choir accompanied by a basso continuo, reinforced by colla-parte instruments. However, the mass can also be performed solely with an organ accompaniment. Gottlob Harrer, the successor to Johann Sebastian Bach as Thomaskantor, performed the mass in Leipzig at Christmas in 1750 and 1751 with an instrumental accompaniment and for this purpose he added two horns. They are included in the present edition as ad libitum parts. Score available separately - see item CA.3909700.

The Carus critical new edition is the very first edition of the Grabmusik which is based on Mozart's separate autographs for movements 1-6, and 7-8, respectively. The fact that the final movement also contains two horn parts which have never appeared in print is an absolutely sensational discovery. Now the work may be again performed using Mozart's last, original instrumentation. Score available separately - see item CA.5104200.
