The Magnificat shows the typical personal style of the composer Gunther Martin Gottsche, who was inspired by the colorful harmonics of French Impressionism as well as by elements of jazz music. He has given equal consideration to both the vocal line and the ease of execution as well as an understanding for the musical events and a comprehensible interpretation of the text. The work, which was revised at the beginning of 2016, is based on an earlier work commissioned for the Dresden Kreuzkirche. A version with organ accompaniment (instead of orchestra) is also available.

Both of the Kyrie settings in E flat major K. 322 (1778/79) and C major K. 323 (probably not prior to 1790) belong to those works by Mozart which were only handed down as incomplete draft scores. However, in both cases Mozart's original drafts were so extensive and well advanced that Abbe Maximilian Stadler, Mozart's friend and known from the history associated with the Requiem, could complete both settings.

In 1856, the year in which Mozart's one-hundredth birthday was elaborately celebrated, Franz Lachner composed the Requiem in F minor op. 146. It became his most well-known and most important work. Lachner's intensive study of Mozart's music on the occasion of the commemorative year lends credence to that fact that it was not inspired by a personal loss, such as a death in the family or among his friends. Although closer examination proves that his music differed essentially from Mozart's, Lachner's work shows a clear expression of his admiration for him. The parallels between the two Requiems range from the characteristics of the organization of the text and the formal structure, to the similar treatment of individual sections, themes and motives. Score and parts available separately - see item CA.2730100.

Frederick Faber's inspiring and encouraging text is remarkably set by Sally Kidwell. Within the piece, there is a mellow reflection on Faber's original words, which expresses how God's love is beyond what we understand of it. The soft interweaving and rejoining of voices give the anthem a drifting charm, as the phrases are delicately pulled and reshaped.

The ambitious late work of Georg Philipp Telemann, consciously dedicated to vocal composition, begins with the Donner-Ode (1756/1760). As a symbol thunder represents the forces of nature, here in close connection to the traumatic earthquake of Lisbon in 1755. The characteristic arrangement of the vocal parts and the scoring with three trumpets, the soloistic use of the timpani and instrumental ensemble made this avant-garde work popular and well known already during the composer's lifetime. The new edition presented here takes into consideration important, newly discovered sources such as the autograph of the first part.
