The Mass in C minor, K. 427, Mozart's Great Mass remaines a torso - a circumstance which is extremely regrettable, especially given the monumentality of this work. Mozart finished only the Kyrie, Gloria, Sanctus, Osanna, and Benedictus of the Mass. For two movements from the Credo he only completed sketches without instrumentation. In March 1785 Mozart arranged Kyrie and Gloria, supplemented by a tenor and a soprano aria, for the Italian oratorio Davide penitente. In his arrangement of the Mass in c minor, Richard Maunder added Creed wind and brass instruments to the Credo sketches. Score available separately - see item CA.4062000.

The pacing of this traditional spiritual brings forth a sense of awe and majesty heard from this angelic proclamation. All voice parts are set within middle registers with occasional divisi in the alto and bass lines. The march-like atmosphere is enhanced with 16th note fanfare figurations. This spiritual would be appropriate for a service of lessons and carols or could be used as an introit during the Christmas season.

Mi She-asa Nisim is part of the prayer section recited on the Sabbath that precedes the beginning of each Hebrew month. Nowakowsky seems to have been especially fond of this brief text and composed at least fifteen settings for it, many of which were extremely long and elaborate. One brief and much simpler exception in the attractive march-like melody published here. It is taken from two versions he composed at different times, which are similar.Duration 2:30.

Witness For The Fallen was written March of 2002, shortly after the tragedy of 9/11. Mr. Kulis was in the process of writing a piece for The Gregg Smith Singers for their annual composers reading in Saranac Lake, New York. In November of 2001 Mr. Kulis close friend, James Whelan, gave him a text in which Mr. Whelan wrote down his reactions to the incidents of 9/11. Mr. Whelan had witnessed so much of what happened that day from an office in a building near Grand Central Station. Initially, Mr. Kulis had no intention of using the text for the compositions he was writing. However, he found himself coming back to the text time after time while writing and ultimately made the decision to use the text. The music he wrote is tonal and straightforward. The opening section is underlined by an F major chord sung by sopranos and altos with a simple melodic line sung by the tenors. The harmony is full of fourths, major sevenths and ninths. It has a distinctly American sound. Witness For The Fallen was recorded and released by the Gregg Smith Singers in 2007.

Originally composed as a wedding gift, this refrain's petition for unity is combined with verses adapted from St. Paul's letter to the Philippians to create a prayer-teaching for people in love relationships or community. In addition to its use for the Rite of Christian Marriage, Make Us One .has proven meaningful during interfaith services both clebrating and seeking greater Christian Unity.
