This a cappella arrangement was originally published in The Dett Collection of Negro Spirituals (1936). Share this impressive work with today's choirs in a carefully crafted new edition by Dr. Marques L. A. Garrett. The motet-like setting features an unaltered soprano melody that appears with each iteration of the refrain. Accompanying voices are imitative, with an ascending melody to represent the singer's journey to heaven (home over Jordan). Publication includes brief background information to provide introductory context about R. Nathaniel Dett, a Black nationalistic composer, educator, conductor, and writer who transformed impressions of Black music during the early twentieth century.

This creative arrangement of the well-known Shaker song passes the traditional tune to every voice part, using the others to support the buoyant melody. Scored for a mixed choir with congas, claves, and maracas, Mark's setting opens with a bit of suspense that soon breaks into a bright a cappella feature. Some rhythmic augmentation provides a warm center before returning to the vibrant feel. Fans will note a few additional lyrics that celebrate the gift to be loving, light, hopeful, and true. A final flourish fans out from the only unison measure into a resounding G major chord.

At the Christmas season, “Gloria in Excelsis Deo” is one of the most popular texts to sing. Los Angeles studio musician Jasper Randall brings us a truly spirited rendition to liven any holiday program. Following its dynamic opening it breaks into a flowing melody and toggles back again. The beloved text attributed to St. Patrick is set imaginatively for SATB and organ. Mostly homophonic choral phrases have a harmonic interest and momentum that belie their difficulty level. They alternate with organ phrases that solo out the melody of the traditional Irish tune SLANE. Written for the installation of a new Létourneau organ, the piece is best served by creative registrations.

Huron Carol ('Twas the Moon of Wintertime) is perhaps the oldest Canadian song. It was written ca. 1642 by Jean de Brebeuf, a Jesuit missionary at Sainte-Marie among the Hurons. The original words were in Huron language, but Whittall uses the English translation from 1926. The song's melody is based on a traditional French folk song Une Jeune Pucelle. Whittall's arrangement is done for Audite choir in 2013. It is a skillful arrangement, bringing out the best qualities of the original melody.
