Written entirely in German. When Haydn stopped in Passau on his second journey to England, he heard a vocal version of his own orchestral work “The Seven Last Words.” It had been made by the Kapellmeister at Passau cathedral Joseph Friebert and Haydn was quite impressed – except: “I believe I could have done the voice parts better.” He acquired a copy and set about making his own vocal version, taking over most of the text. Haydn particularly liked his own vocal work and it was also enthusiastically received by his contemporaries. The study edition is based on the volume (HN 5822) published as part of the Complete Edition by the Joseph Haydn Institute in Cologne.

This Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy anthology contains 19 sacred vocal works in various choral and sometimes additional solo settings, with organ, harpsichord, or basso continuo accompaniment. Among these pieces composed from 1821 to 1847 are six works that were not published during Mendelssohn's lifetime. Seven of the works presented are each extant in at least one other authorized version that has also been edited here. The occasions and circumstances of their composition vary as much as their musical structures and characteristics: Several were intended for specific performances; others were written from the outset for publication.

Comissioned by Roomful of Teeth, 7 Planets is an interplanetary exploration for 8 voices. Conceived in 2020 when observing the planets became a solace, providing a necessary stability for Alev Lenz, the seven movements are each based on one of the planetary frequencies. The work lasts around half an hour and requires some percussion at moments.
