Composed by French master Darius Milhaud in 1932, this collection of humorous children's songs is now available for the first time with English lyrics. At the time they were composed, radio and phonograph technology were causing the primary musical leisure activity to shift from actual music making to listening. Milhaud believed that if amateurs were provided with accessible music, they would be encouraged to continue playing music for recreation, thus reversing the trend. These delightful songs are excellent for young treble choirs in school and community and include: A Little Test, Skipping Song, Reading Lesson, The Luck of the Draw, Miss Spectacles, Mea Culpa, The Monitor Alexander, Deserved Praise, The Argument, The Orchestra of the Obedient Students, The Orchestra of the Mischievous Students, Final Chorus: In Praise of Computers.

Messiah 1741 - new light on Handel's masterpiece The focus of this new edition is the Messiah as first conceived by the composer in 1741: before its first performance in Dublin in 1742, before the first London performances of the mid 1740s, before the final Foundling Hospital performances in the late 1750s. The editor succeeds in creating a 21st-century edition from the perspective of 1741, making clear that Messiah was a genius hit from the start. Messiah 1741 - the first and only complete edition of Handel's autograph score Thorough information on Handel's performance practice in 1741 (including topics such as orchestration, continuo, text underlay and specific questions on interpretation) It offers a reconstruction of the wind parts according to contemporary sources Piano vocal score with contemporary vocal ornamentation First edition including the German text by Herder - a monument of the German enlightenment - which is contentwise and phonetically closer to Jennens' text than any other translation, therefore being a perfect singable alternative The appendix contains additionally the most popular and important aria versions composed after 1741 for practical reasons. Throughout this new edition, creative yet pragmatic scholarship shines through, and the Preface and Critical Report are thorough and unusually fascinating. ... I'm very happy to own the full score, and if I were starting out now, I'd invest in the whole kit and caboodle. (Jeremy Summerly, Choir & Organ)Critical Edition with the original English text by Charles Jennens as well as the German translation by Johann Gottfried Herder, including a comprehensive historical and musicological preface and detailed critical commentary.

To this day, Eugène Bozza (1905-1991) remains a prolific composer for wind instruments, despite being a violinist himself. However, his compositions for other instrumentations have not gone amiss, Evening Star being no exception. During his studies at the Paris Conservatoire, Bozza won prizes for violin, conducting and composition, as well as the Grand Prix de Rome. He then conducted the orchestra of the Opéra-Comique and became Head of the Conservatoire in Valenciennes, whilst remaining a prominent composer. Composed in 1946, Bozza's Evening Star is based on a poem of the same name by Alfred de Musset, a prominent poet during the early 1800s. This choral work is arranged for female voices; Soprano, Mezzo Soprano and Contralto. Containing much musical variation, Bozza's Evening Star is an exciting addition to the choral repertoire.

In this vocal quartet for four female voices and piano, Schubert sets a text from the odes of Ewald Christian von Kleist to music, the first four stanzas of his 17-stanza poem hymn. According to tradition, Schubert had written it for the singer Anna Frohlich. It was first performed on 8 March 1827 in the Vienna Musical Society and published posthumously as op. 133 in 1839.

The St. John Passion SWV 481, with its full title History of the Passion and Death of Our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ According to the Evangelist St. John, is counted among the most frequently performed works of Heinrich Schutz. Other than the later passions by Johann Sebastian Bach, the original scoring does not include instrumental accompaniment. To enable a presentation of the passion by a wider circle of performers, however, the composer and church musician Arnold Mendelssohn (1855-1933) has developed this arrangement with organ or piano accompaniment, being a harmonic framework and new tone color at the same time. The edition also suggests chorales from the Evangelisches Gesangbuch for a possible active participation of the congregation.
