Sung for years as an alternative memorial acclamation at Sunday liturgies, Deiss' well-known refrain is coupled with verses that sing a strong reminder that Christ saves us by his death and resurrection and brings joy even in the midst of sorrow. Works well for the opening procession, the communion procession, or the Song of Farewell during the Rite of Final Commendation. Assemblies know this piece by heart.

This simple yet elegant setting is sung on just two short Latin phrases. A partner song approach gives each voice part independence, while a brief B section includes some homophonic choral harmonies. Halfway through the piece, a delicate descant-like third part is introduced and floats gently above when the lyrical theme and counter theme return. Excellent concert or contest repertoire for developing groups.
