We are one in community, we are one in humanity. Each of us living to spread love, we are one in humanity. Rhythmic and energetic music by Bryan Sharpe highlights this uplifting message about the bonds of love we share with everyone on this planet. A great choice for festivals, the idiomatically conceived parts for optional percussion provide effective support for voices and piano.

There is a word in South Africa, Ubuntu, which recognizes that we are better as individuals and entire communities when we root ourselves in relationships. When we care for each other and embrace our essential unity, humanity thrives. This very special original song invites singers and audience members to live Ubuntu, connected as one global family. Two-part singers will quickly learn the naturally syncopated hook, echo phrases, and no fuss harmony. A small drum circle, an opening narrator, a few rap soloists, and some resonant descant voices guarantee an impressive performance. This is the type of piece you'd hear at convention, hope your kids can handle, and then rejoice when you realize they can!

An emblem that transcends cultures, religions, and time periods, the flickering candle offers a message of joy, hope, and peace that can reach every human heart. Start with the spark of a single voice on the opening solo, and then light your choir's inner flame when the entire group joins. Simple, with a folk-like quality; artful, as the composer explores dark versus light, major versus minor.

This Celtic-inspired original is an exceptional testament to music, a powerful tool for human expression. Compelling lyrics come from the unique perspective of song itself, 'I am the spark that glows in you . . . the voice that grows in you . . . the hope that springs in you . . . the truth that rings in you. A lilting 6/8 meter and sweeping choral lines garner an epic effect and create an impressive opener, closer, or concert theme.

Inspired by the ceasefire that occurred in December of 1914 during World War I, this piece lives in that moment where for a brief moment, the world was at peace. Eyewitness accounts tell us that carols, such as Franz Gruber’s “Stille Nacht†(“Silent Nightâ€) were sung (which is featured in this piece), seasonal greetings in several languages rang out across the trenches, and simple gifts of food and memorabilia were exchanged. In that one brief and beautiful moment, the human spirit triumphed. Fighting ceased, and the world was at peace. An optional reading may be read before the performing that communicates this context to your audience.

In my opinion our world is currently in great need of reestablishing strong connections one to another, be it with family and friends, neighbors and strangers, nations and nations, or with those of different cultures and religions. In his important book, I and Thou, philosopher-theologian Martin Buber says that the most meaningful life is centered on relationship. As a musician, I felt compelled to express the I-THOU thesis through the human voice. In searching for the right words to express this sentiment, I was fortunate to find Kazuaki Tanahashi’s eloquent poem, “Encounter.†Mr. Tanahashi is a poet, Zen artist, scholar and peace activist. This combined-voices version has been adapted from an SATB scoring that features prominently in the original song cycle, I-THOU, written for vocal quartet, commissioned and premiered in 2018 by Fourth Coast Ensemble in Chicago. —Wayland Rogers About the Series: Doreen Rao, 2019 Robert Shaw Award recipient, launches her culturally inclusive choral series, Global Encounters for Young Voices, featuring accessible treble- and mixed-voice works for developing choirs.

Babcock’s time-honored text celebrates the delight we take in the natural world and underscores God’s care in creating it and his care for humanity. Paired with the traditional English folk tune TERRA BEATA, Sewell’s innovative harmonies support easily learned vocal parts, producing a charming anthem that will bring a smile to listeners and choristers alike.
