DawnQuiet miles of golden sky,And in my heart a sudden flower.I want to clap my hands and sighFor Beauty in her secret bower. Quiet golden miles of dawnâ??Smiling all the East along; And in my heart nigh fully grown,A little rose-bud of a song.â??From â??Last Songsâ? by Francis LedwidgeDawn, radiant dawn! When morning comes my fears are gone.Daylight breaks, my soul awakes! And songs of Love sing on. â??Italics: Additional text by Jacob NarverudAbout the PoetFrancis Ledwidge (1887â??1917) was an Irish poet from Slane, County Meath. Ledwidge started writing at an early age and was first published in a local newspaper when he was fourteen years old. Ledwidge left the local national school shortly after and worked as a farm hand, road surface mender, and copper miner at Beaupark Mine near Slane. Ledwidge became friends with a local landowner, the writer Lord Dunsany, who gave him a workspace in the library of Dunsany Castle and introduced him to literary figures, including William Butler Yeats and Katherine Tynan. Some of Ledwidgeâ??s manuscripts are held in the National Library of Ireland. The main surviving collection, including his early works and personal letters, are in the archives of Dunsany Castle.

Avatar: The Way of Water was released in movie theaters 13 years after the original, yet it proceeded to scoop up nearly every box office record along the way. This introspective song by The Weeknd makes us ponder the importance of family (while including diction opportunities in the unique “Na'vi†language)!

Broadway veteran and comedian Ana Gasteyer's holiday album is filled with clever gems like this nifty novelty number. Can you think of a rhyme for the word Christmas? It's nearly impossible. After several failed attempts, grins, chuckles, and one-liners throughout the jazzy tune, the lyrics conclude that we don't need a rhyme for Christmas, only you!

African-American musicians Brook Benton and Clyde Otis collaborated on this bluesy ballad in 1959. Since then, the enduring piece has been recorded by iconic artists such as Etta James and Ray Charles. Verses present sentimental snapshots of Christmases past, and a crooner melody paints a warm holiday portrait. Santa Claus is on his way, loads of joy on his sleigh, this time of the year, when Christmas is near.

It's a dynamic duo of fabulous '50s holiday hits! Choral singers will enjoy the traditional harmonies and laid-back swing of this mini-medley that clocks in at just over three minutes. The doo-wop falsetto pops near the end provide a nifty nod to nostalgia. For even more fun, add some showmanship with Santa hats, jingle bells, and riser choreography. SoundPax includes parts for a standard rhythm section.

A sparkling setting of the traditional text, but with the alternate tune predominantly used in the British Isles, this beautiful SSA arrangement highlights the image of soaring angels bending near the earth to bring their wondrous Christmas message.

Jay Althouse revisits a little-known gem by George Gershwin from nearly 100 years ago: a winsome melody winds over a terrain of jazz chords before melting into lush choral harmony. Flexible tempos and expressive phrases lend themselves well to poignant, heartfelt singing.

You'll never think of the popular potluck side dish the same way again! This quirky song originally appeared in the 1944 MGM musical Broadway Rhythm. Kirby's authentic arrangement retains the characteristic sound and style of the time period, including bright jazz harmonies and swing rhythms. An add-on section near the end introduces a whole picnic of musical goodies before packing it up for a big finish!

What a surprising idea using the Pierpont melody of “Jingle Bells†to create a beautifully warm setting for winter concerts. The text describes a scene of nature sleeping and dreaming beneath a blanket of snow set to simple yet rich harmonies with a touch of “sleep in heavenly peace†near the end. Exquisite.

Something special for Hanukkah, a wish for peace throughout the year is the centerpiece. The melody is sung in unison before appearing in echo format, making this gentle choral ballad ideal for those who are new to singing in parts. An optional small group near the end adds a third layer, if desired.
