Lin-Manuel Miranda has slowly and surely become a musical theater icon of the modern era. Like Schwartz, Sondheim, Loesser, and Rodgers and Hammerstein, Miranda writes songs that are transcendent, singable, joyous, and worth the price of admission. This medley from show choir veteran Mark Brymer includes some of the most memorable highlights from an illustrious career: In the Heights, How Far I'll Go (from Moana), One More Song (from Vivo), We Don't Talk about Bruno (from Encanto) and My Shot (from Hamilton).

Robert Southwell, English poet, priest and missionary, was arrested in 1592 under a law banishing members of the Jesuit order from the England of Queen Elizabeth I. He was imprisoned and tortured and in 1495 was tried for treason and hanged. While Southwell's life ended on a gloomy note, the poem is sublime in its simplicity and strength. This setting by Mr. Tucker matches the character of the poem beautifully and makes for a wonderful Christmas anthem. Duration 2:15.

The text speaks of discipleship and would be a great choice for events focusing on social justice, for a commissioning/sending anthem, or even as part of a healing and reconciliation service. The question of the final phrase (“Shall we now refuse God's call?â€) is reflected in the unsteadiness of the musical line, which seems to say, “It's up to each of us to do our part.â€.

This concertato setting of the Emmaus story is light in its texture but moving in its impact. The melody of the opening verse captures the heaviness of the travelers’ grief. An a cappella verse takes on an airiness reflecting the wonder of the discovery. The setting builds toward a joyful ending, with a statement of our mission as a living Church. Enjoy the pedal line’s depiction of the trudging gait in the brief interludes.

In the words of the composer, “Inspired by the wisdom of Pope Francis, who offers, ‘Show by your life that it is worth giving your time and talents in order to attain high ideals, that it is worth recognizing the dignity of each human person, and it is worth taking risks for Christ and his Gospel,’ this piece tries to explore every facet of what it means to let your life speak what you truly believe.†Lori True’s experiences working with the students of St. Catherine University, strong women whose actions speak as loudly as their cries for justice, inspired the composition of “Show by Your Life.†The verses can be sung by a cantor, but the community can learn and pray them to God and to one another, keeping one another accountable to the mission of the gospel.

Kerry Andrew 's Luna-cy for three voices (SSA). Duration: 5 minutes Composed: 2001 Also published as part of UYMP's Songspin Songbook, ISMN M 57036 603 3. A cuckoo called: I looked towards the sound, but only the moon of the dawn was there. Fujiwara Sanesada. Translation by Geoffrey Bownas and Anthony Thwaite from ‘The Penguin Book of Japanese Verse’ (Penguin Books 1964, Revised edition 1998, 2009). Reproduced by permission of Penguin Books Ltd. I had an animalistic expression of madness in mind for this piece. The Japanese tanka above seemed to encapsulate the idea of madness associated with the moon ('lunar'= 'lunacy') and with cuckoos.
