Brett's noteworthy setting, based on the familiar hymn tune DIVINUM MYSTERIUM and incorporating texts from the Sacramentary, makes an effective and memorable Advent gathering rite, seamless from procession through the opening prayer. The presider's part is readily perceived as it outlines the elegant, stepwise motion in the melodic classic. The writing for chorus is proficiently set for SAB. Within the body of the octavo you will find Introits and Opening Prayers for all Sundays in Advent as well as the solemnity of the Immaculate Conception.

DawnQuiet miles of golden sky,And in my heart a sudden flower.I want to clap my hands and sighFor Beauty in her secret bower. Quiet golden miles of dawnâ??Smiling all the East along; And in my heart nigh fully grown,A little rose-bud of a song.â??From â??Last Songsâ? by Francis LedwidgeDawn, radiant dawn! When morning comes my fears are gone.Daylight breaks, my soul awakes! And songs of Love sing on. â??Italics: Additional text by Jacob NarverudAbout the PoetFrancis Ledwidge (1887â??1917) was an Irish poet from Slane, County Meath. Ledwidge started writing at an early age and was first published in a local newspaper when he was fourteen years old. Ledwidge left the local national school shortly after and worked as a farm hand, road surface mender, and copper miner at Beaupark Mine near Slane. Ledwidge became friends with a local landowner, the writer Lord Dunsany, who gave him a workspace in the library of Dunsany Castle and introduced him to literary figures, including William Butler Yeats and Katherine Tynan. Some of Ledwidgeâ??s manuscripts are held in the National Library of Ireland. The main surviving collection, including his early works and personal letters, are in the archives of Dunsany Castle.

About Jónas HalgrÃmsson (1807-1845) was an Icelandic poet, author and naturalist, who is considered one of Iceland's most renowned poets. Considered a Romantic writer, the strong imagery in his poetry was influenced heavily by the landscapes around him.The imagery, excitement, and curiosity of the universe leapt off the page and the music almost wrote itself. Reflecting on the cosmos and origin of the heavens, the poetry elicits excitement and stirs spatial imagery - ...speeding spark of light, ...wings swifter than wind..., ...I watched the stars...rise from the still stream of heaven... The pure and almost child-like fascination with the universe and its expansion and progression fuels the perpetual rhythm of the work as it continually pushes forward.A good friend asked if I would write a song for her ensemble. The original voicing, for SAB choir, contained parameters in that it had to be three-part with a limited range in the Bass part. With these stipulations I began to write. I searched for something that would be exciting for them and landed on Jonas Halgrimsson’s writings. I believe it is equally as exciting, accessible and challenging for treble choirs.Note to the DirectorTruly consider how the work can come to ‘life’ off the page. Rise and fall with phrase and sometimes each note. The magic exists beyond the ink on the page!Consideration to range, tessitura, and content was all considered as part of this process in creating music that is accessible to all programs and ensembles.Accompaniment NoteThe accompaniment can look intimidating, but please feel free to alter the pulsing eighth notes in the left hand with the eighth notes in the right-hand so it creates a compound rhythm. So long as the momentum of the work is pressed onward, you are doing this work justice.About Jónas HalgrÃmsson (1807-1845) was an Icelandic poet, author and naturalist, who is considered one of Iceland's most renowned poets. The Scrutinies occur on the 3rd, 4th and 5th Sundays of Lent, when the Elect are called before the community for exorcism and prayer. The simple Kyrie (with a spoken Confiteor) could be used as the Penitential Rite for the entire Lenten season, whether or not the Intercessions are used. The melody is the same for the Kyrie-Christe- Kyrie, but the accompaniment is varied and the choral parts unfold from unison to two-part mixed to SAB.

Michael writes, adapts, and arranges music that always catches the eyes and ears of music directors. Choral accessibility and musical care are foremost in his mind as he writes. Michael's setting of this cherished prayer is one of his best to date. The accompaniment is reminiscent of the well-known Bach/Gounod setting as the arpeggio figures accompany the vocal line and choral harmonies. Within the choral texture are some unusual but pleasing harmonic shifts to keep singer and listener engaged. If you know any of Michael's earlier works, you will surely want this one in your library.

This jolly holiday song went to #2 on the Adult Contemporary Charts in a recording by co-writer and recording artist Jim Brickman and British teen singer Olivia Jade Archbold, who appeared on Britain's Got Talent in 2010. It's a light, bouncy Christmas choral with a pop feel that perfectly captures the spirit of the season.
