I've always enjoyed celebratory and rhythmic singing. I also know there's a need for this style in treble voices. The holiday season is a perfect time to create such a work. The text of The Angels' Gloria is based on the familiar Montgomery hymn with original music. This work can be easily be done as a call and answer or antiphonal setting. Try using it as a processional, too. Hearing the voices surround the audience is always exciting for everyone and a superb teaching and learning experience. The accompaniment is intentionally simple and bell-like, supporting the three-part harmonies. I've also created a B-section that is a cappella in full three-part singing, rich and full giving lots of contrast to the piece. There is so much good teaching throughout the piece, making for interesting rehearsals and a terrific performance piece. I hope this adds just the right sparkle for your Christmas or holiday program.—Greg Gilpin.

A fantastic piece to teach vowels, diction, rhythms, and pitch precision, this English folk song, titled Leatherwing Bat, is fun to sing and impressive to perform. The nonsense syllables represent birds and bats chatting to one another in a rhythmic, witty fashion that your students will love to sing. Also available for Three-Part Mixed Voices (CM9595), Two-Part Treble Voices (BL1102), and SATB Voices (BL1153).Leatherwing Bat is the original name of this traditional folk song. Folklore has always thought of the animals with human characteristics, including the power of speech. Even Mark Twain once commented that there was no question about the ability of animals to talk to each other. The question was whether or not very many people could understand them. This folk song is about the bat and birds chatting to each other about love. Phonetic pronunciation suggestion: Hahee-dih-dahoo, dee-dih-dul-uhm-dehee Heh-lee-lee, lih-lahee-lih-loh.Leatherwing Bat is the original name of this traditional folk song. Ken Berg has worked with his magic again, taking this nursery rhyme, popular all over the Spanish-speaking world, and arranged it for choir, piano and percussion. The words are about little chicks and their mother hen feeding them in the cycle of life. The percussion brings an authenticity to the sound and the multiple modulations are surprisingly placed to great effect and always fun.

What an outstanding and inspirational message to send to young, impressionable singers today: When all seems cloudy and gray, you must remember that “there's always been a Rainbow hanging over your head.” Kacey Musgraves' iconic song will stick with you long after the performance.

Joy instantly abounds as the well-edited keyboard introduction sets the tone for this impressive, yet approachable Baroque selection---the first movement of Vivaldi's masterwork of the same name. Choral phrasing is obvious, as we alternate between brief marcato statements and longer lines that deliver satisfying suspensions. As always, Dr. Liebergen includes an informative editor's note and a complete IPA pronunciation guide for the Latin text (eight words in total). This title is available in MakeMusic Cloud.

This text is taken from the Dies Irae Sequence from the Requiem Mass. It is a contemplation of the arrival of judgment day. The A-sections, mm. 1-29 & mm. 43-end, are a manic depiction of the fierce wrath of judgment day. They should be sung with fire, crisp consonants while always enunciating the accents in order to realize the full effect of this powerful text. The entire demeanor of the tone and facial expressions should change for the B-section, mm. 30-42 as it is a plea for mercy. The audience should realize the change in this contrasting section. Translation Dies irae, dies illa: Day of wrath, that day Solvet saeclum in favilla: shall dissolve the world into embers Teste David cum Sibylla: As David prophesied with the Sibyl. Voca me cum benedictis :Call me to be with the blessed. Salva me fons pietatis : Save me, fount of pity. The Sibyl is a reference from a Greek word, which means Prophetess. In this context, the word appears in plural, referring to many prophetesses. David, or King David, has long been considered prophetic among biblical scholars. About the Arranger D. Andy Grammer's signature song encourages perseverance and a positive mindset in the face of life's ups and downs. The rhythmic accompaniment provides a hip backdrop for energetic vocal lines that pass the melody around to various voice parts. A great conversation starter for social-emotional learning topics. Only rainbows after rain, the sun will always come again.
