This hymn concertato on Holst's noble tune THAXTED provides two texts: one by Delores Dufner, OSB, for Pentecost/Confirmation, and Michael Perry's more familiar general text. The opening fanfare and interlude for brass, timpani, and handbells facilitate festive processions, but the piece may be adapted for use with only organ accompaniment. An elegant SATB harmonization of the middle stanza may be sung by choir alone.

There is a congregational part as well as a verse for SATB choir. Optional brass quartet parts are also available. Written for the ELCA's 25th Anniversary, the composer himself describes this as a one-rehearsal wonder. Essentially it's a brand new hymn tune and text arranged for SATB and piano, with optional trumpet and soprano descant. The tune is sweeping and majestic, the choral writing easy and effective. The tag line God's work, Our hands has been at the heart of the ELCA church since its inception, and the text reinforces that message. Duration 3:30.

Austere and noble, the hymn tune THE MORNING TRUMPET is from The Sacred Harp, 1844. The composer has crafted an unusual setting for SATB and Brass Quintet. The voice parts are very accessible for any size choir and always take center stage (for example, the piece begins with unison men a cappella, not the usual choice in a piece with brass quintet). The text looks forward to the time when we transcend death to be with Jesus. Your choir will have fun singing the recurring refrain O shout glory, glory!
