Premiered by Gloriae Dei Cantores at the tree-lighting at Rockefeller Center in 1995, A Christmas Garland is an exciting work for the Christmas season. Creating a fresh look at three well-known and beloved Christmas carols, (Ding! Dong! merrily on high, Infant Holy, Infant Lowly, and Deck the Hall) Bruce Saylor writes with a masterful command of choral writing and sonorities. The combination of sensitive word setting, traditional harmonies and rhythmic excitement maskes this an immediately attractive work to both singers and listeners alike. While Dr. Saylor uses the entire vocal range in a challenging way, the work gives great satisfaction to the singers in tis expressive opportunities. A Christmas Garland will be a wonderful addtition to any choir's Christmas repertoire, and is especially appropriate for concert use.

Written for the Chapel Choir of University College, Oxford, Giles Underwood, Director of Music. This setting of Pireeni Sundaralingam's poem LOT'S WIVES (about the Sri Lankan Civil War that took place between 1983-2009) was written in June of 2023, during the war between Russia and Ukraine and four months before the escalation between Israel and Palestine. Bruce Adolphe describes the work: “As a composer, I was drawn to the way the poem looks back in time as the women look back on destruction, creating a temporal counterpoint of past and present. To set these words, I combined the sorrowful lyricism of looking back to the past with the fierce dissonance of present violence. The cello plays several roles: it triggers memory; it comments on the text and on the music that is sung; it provides accompaniment.”.

Bruce Saylor is well-known for his arrangements of hymn-tunes. Here in Living Word of God Eternal, Saylor has composed a new hymn-tune, 'Rowthorn'. This is named for the author of the text, the Rt. Rev. Jeffery Rowthorn. The first four verses are set to be sung quietly yet with inner strength. The third verse features women alone while the fourth verse is sung 'a cappella'. The final verse is sung out and invludes a soaring descant with an exciting organ accompaniment. This piece makes a splendid anthem for the Eucharist.

Bruce Saylor is well-known for his exceptional sacred music and particularly his large-scale anthems. Blessing is a sensitive mixture of texts from the Scriptures and Jasper Keith, Jr. The anthem is scored for choir, trumpets, trombones, timpani and organ. It demands a great deal of sensitivity on the part of all the musicians and is especially gratifying for the exciting results that ensue. A quiet, rather sinuous line from the organ opens the work and is slowly transformed into more rhythmic and fiery figurations. A march-like section commences at the text, Hast thou not known? This subsides into more lyrical turns from the choir and organ and eventually a return to the opening music. The work concludes with an exuberant Amen from all forces. This is a real tour-de-force and should find its way into performances by large church and college choirs.

In this splendid hymn-anthem, Bruce Neswick has provided many expressive possibilities for the use of this beloved hymn-tune. Three different texts are included giving further flexibility for the use of the piece. The work opens with an extended introduction for organ and brass that builds in intensity towards the opening of the first verse. Before the final verse there is an exciting interlude and during the verse itself there are fanfare-like figures for the brass as well as an ever-expanding organ accompaniment.
