Thanks to its patron the Duke Francesco II, Modena became a capital city worldwide for the oratorio genre: renowned maestro di cappella in Ferrara, also Bassani wished to offer to the Duke his own work, setting aside for him the summit of his melodic and dramaturgical inventiveness. According to the documents that we have, the performance of Giona was Bassani's debut at the court of Francesco II. Born in Padua around 1650, the composer carried out the main part of his activities in Ferrara, where he was organist (probably from 1667), and maestro di cappella at the Accademia della Morte (from 1683), and subsequently also at the Cathedral (from 1686); he also became a member of the Accademia Filarmonica of Bologna (in 1677) and was committed to Alessandro II Pico, Duke of Mirandola and Marquis of Concordia. In 1712 he moved to Bergamo, where he was maestro di cappella at S. Maria Maggiore; he died there on 1st October 1716. Before his commission in Modena, the <> - as he was often called at that time - had already printed seven instrumental and vocal works as well as a few operas and oratorios.

Choral SATB choir SKU: CF.CM9700 Composed by Hungarian Folk. Arranged by Stacy Garrop. 20 pages. Duration 4:44. Carl Fischer Music #CM9700. Published by Carl Fischer Music (CF.CM9700). ISBN 9781491160008. UPC: 680160918607. Key: A minor. Hungarian. Hungarian Folk. In 2014, Chanticleer commissioned me to make a new arrangement of the Hungarian-Romani folk song Jarba, Mare Jarba for their 2014 touring program. Passed down orally through the Romani communities, this beautiful folk song, with text in a language called Beas (beh-osh), speaks of a deep longing to visit one's homeland, a place where the singer can never return. Chanticleer consists of twelve men whose vocal ranges span from low bass to high soprano, equivalent to the range of a mixed choir of women and men. I composed slow sections of original material to represent the singers' longing to return home; these are interspersed with the folk song's traditional fast sections. The incorporated shouts and calls in the score are typically found in the performance of Central European folk songs. I hope you enjoy singing this new version of Jarba, Mare Jarba that contains all of the vigor and excitement of the Chanticleer version. PERFORMANCE NOTES All spoken sounds (indicated by x noteheads) should be performed by individuals. Feel free to elaborate with more sounds of your own in the tradition of Eastern European folk music. If the piece is memorized, feel free to experiment with clapping on the off-beats of m. 93 to the end. Soli SATB, SATB Choir, 2 Ob, Tl (Eh), 2 Vl, Va, Vc, organ obl, Bc SKU: CA.3118814 Cantata for the 21st Sunday after Trinity. Composed by Johann Sebastian Bach. Edited by Pieter Dirksen. Stuttgart Urtext Edition: Bach vocal. Basso continuo. Sacred vocal music, End of the church year, Trinity. Single Part, basso continuo. Composed 1728. BWV 188. 16 pages. Duration 25 minutes. Carus Verlag #CV 31.188/14. Published by Carus Verlag (CA.3118814). ISBN 9790007210069. Language: German/English. The cantata Ich habe meine Zuversicht BWV 188 comes from the so-called Picander cycle and was written for the 21st Sunday after Trinity in 1728 or 1729. There are some particular problems associated with its transmission. The original set of parts was lost, and the manuscript score only survives in fragmentary form. Probably as early as the 18th century the score was divided up into numerous separate parts in order to make more money, or to be able to provide as many Bach relics as possible for posterity. The first movement, an instrumental sinfonia, is missing apart from the final bars. We simply know that this sinfonia is based on the 3rd movement of the Harpsichord Concerto BWV 1052 in D minor and that instead of the harpsichord, an obbligato organ was envisaged. Its successful reconstruction by the baroque specialist and organist Pieter Dirksen now makes it possible to perform the cantata again complete with the introductory sinfonia. | The Garden of the Finzi-Continis Choral SATB [Vocal Score] Theodore Presser Co.
Opera Vocal Soloists, SATB Chorus, Orchestra SKU: PR.411411640 An Oper...(+)
Opera Vocal Soloists, SATB Chorus, Orchestra SKU: PR.411411640 An Opera in Two Acts. Composed by Ricky Ian Gordon. Vocal score. Duration 2 minutes, 30 seconds. Theodore Presser Company #411-41164. Published by Theodore Presser Company (PR.411411640). ISBN 9781491137642. UPC: 680160691098. The Garden of the Finzi-Continis novel by Giorgio Bassani. Based on Bassani’s 1962 novel, THE GARDEN OF THE FINZI-CONTINIS dramatizes the true story of a prosperous Jewish family’s disruptions and consequences from state-mandated antisemitism in Italy during World War II. Gordon describes the opera as “romantic, sun-drenched, and cataclysmic, all at the same time.” This dramatically topical and personal grand opera premiered at New York City Opera and National Yiddish Theatre Folksbiene to rave reviews in 2022. Chris Ruel wrote in OperaWire, “I have chosen Ricky Ian Gordon and Michael Korie’s THE GARDEN OF THE FINZI-CONTINIS as my favorite opera of 2022.”. At one point, in 2008, I was walking down 72nd Street, and I passed the video store, (this is when there were video stores) and I thought to myself, I wonder if Kevin (my partner) has ever seen The Garden of the Finzi-Continis? which was always one of my favorite movies. My reaction when we watched it that night was unlike any other time I had seen it. I was wrenched, sobbing, inconsolable. My heart felt like the autumn leaves we see blowing through the garden at the end of the movie. It seemed immediately that this had to be my next opera. I called Michael Korie, and we both bought the Bassani novel and read it. We settled on it. It felt clear that we both had a collective story to tell through it.Because this opera is so close to both of our hearts, it is dedicated to our fathers. It is not only that The Garden of the Finzi-Continis is a Holocaust story that makes it so resonant for me, though obviously this is no small matter, but the tragedy of people trying to live their lives, or actually living them, their petty disappointments, their heartbreaks, against the backdrop of total catastrophe… that makes it so moving. They cannot possibly imagine what will befall them, but we know… and this makes their every move fascinating and devastating… like watching moths under a glass. It is romantic, sun-drenched and cataclysmic, all at the same time. This is why I had to write it. $125.00 - See more - Buy onlinePre-shipment lead time: 1 to 2 weeks

| Laus Nativitatis Choral SATB Randol Bass Music
SATB choir with wind ensemble or full orchestra or piano accompaniment SKU: E...(+)
SATB choir with wind ensemble or full orchestra or piano accompaniment SKU: EC.RBM-124 Composed by Randol Alan Bass. Multi-Movement/Large Choral Work. Christmas, Sacred, 21st Century. Choral score. Randol Bass Music #RBM-124. Published by Randol Bass Music (EC.RBM-124). This composition was commissioned in 2015 by the City of Fairfax Band and was premiered by that ensemble incollaboration with the Fairfax Choral Society on December 19 th of that year, under the baton of Robert J. Pouliot. The work was originally scored for symphonic wind ensemble and SATB chorus and has subsequently been transcribed for use in an orchestral/choral platform with the same voicing. (3.3.3.3, 4.3.3.1, timp. 3 perc., harp & strings). The work is a setting of two Catholic liturgical texts traditionally associated with the season of Advent: Hodie, Christus Natus Est and O Magnum Mysterium. The work is a traditional arch-form in onemovement, a setting of the more reflective O Magnum Mysterium text being framed by a more ebullient and assertive treatment of the Hodie, Christus Natus Est text. There are passages of declamatory and angular rhythmic statements throughout, interspersed with contrasting sections of broad lyricism and reflectiveness. The piece begins and ends with triumphant brass and choral textures.
This work is suitable for any Christmas program, especially as an opening or closing number. No vocal soloists are called for in the performance of this work. $5.65 - See more - Buy onlinePre-shipment lead time: 1 to 2 weeks

SATB choir, piano accompaniment - Intermediate SKU: GI.G-8618 From Mes...(+)
SATB choir, piano accompaniment - Intermediate SKU: GI.G-8618 From Messiah. Composed by George Frideric Handel. Edited by Dennis Shrock. Christmas Vigil, Christmas Night, Christmas Dawn, Christmas Day, Easter Day. GIA Historical Music. Music Education. Octavo. 12 pages. GIA Publications #8618. Published by GIA Publications (GI.G-8618). UPC: 785147861805. English. Text Source: Revelation 19:6, 11:15, 19:16. Scripture: Revelation 11:15, Revelation 19:6, 16. The “Hallelujah†chorus is the final movement of part two of Handel’s Messiah, the part that comments on Christ’s crucifixion, resurrection, and ascension. The text of the chorus, assembled from Biblical passages by the oratorio’s librettist, Charles Jennens, is from Revelation 19:6, 11:15, and 19:16: “Hallelujah, for the Lord God omnipotent reigneth. The kingdom of this world is become the kingdom of our Lord and of his Christ, and he shall reign for ever and ever. KING OF KINGS, AND LORD OF LORDS.†This edition has been prepared from the first published score in 1767, with comparisons to Handel’s autograph manuscript now housed in the British Museum. The text has been reproduced here without alterations. However, the beamings of the vocal parts have been modernized for ease of reading (the original material has flags instead of beams for every separate syllable). The piano accompaniment is a reduction of the orchestral material: the first and second violin parts are represented in the upper staff, with only occasional inclusion of the viola, trumpet, and timpani parts, the basso continuo, in its original form, is in the bottom staff. The GIA Historical Music Series edited by Dennis Shrock, presents repertoire suitable for performance by public school, college and university, church, and community ensembles, with the purpose of making available to today’s conductors lesser-known and previously difficult-to-procure historical masterpieces. The music, drawn from the Renaissance through the Romantic eras, is in performance editions based on the most current and rigorous scholarly research. The musical scores reflect original intent of notation, with all editorial markings and emendations clearly identified as such. In addition, preface material accompanying the music contains literal translations of foreign language texts and information regarding the lives of the composers, genres, and relevant performance practices. Dennis Shrock is Director of Choral Activities at Texas Christian University. He has been called one of the top choral scholars in the United States and has received a number of awards for his work. He received a bachelor's degree in music education from Westminster Choir College and both master's and doctoral degrees in choral conducting from Indiana University. $2.60 - See more - Buy onlinePre-shipment lead time: 1 to 2 weeks

Composed in the late period, around 1740 A lively discussion about the choral movement Nun ist das Heil und die Kraft has been carried on, in which not only all previous assumptions have been called into question-including Bach's authorship-but also show how little we know about the history of this magnificent movement. Even though there is little to refute the 1982 presumption that the work was handed down in the form of an arrangement, the question remains open concerning the identity of the arranger, as well as the alleged form of the original design. Therefore it seemed appropriate to forego any attempts at reconstruction. SATB/SATB choir, 2 oboes, oboe d'amore, 3 trumpets, timpani, 2 violin, viola, basso continuo SKU: CA.3105009 Chorus for St. Michael's Day. Composed by Johann Sebastian Bach. Edited by Uwe Wolf. This edition: urtext. 1x 31.050/21 oboe 1, 1x 31.050/22 oboe 2, 1x 31.050/23 oboe d'amore, 4x 31.050/31 trumpet 1. Stuttgart Urtext Edition: Bach vocal. German title: Nun Ist Das Heil Und Die Kraft (U.Wolf). Sacred vocal music, Cantatas, Special days, Psalms. Set of Orchestra Parts. Composed circa 1740. BWV 50. 14 pages. Duration 5 minutes. Carus Verlag #CV 31.050/09. Published by Carus Verlag (CA.3105009). ISBN 9790007043063. Key: D major. Language: German/English. Composed in the late period, around 1740 A lively discussion about the choral movement Nun ist das Heil und die Kraft has been carried on, in which not only all previous assumptions have been called into question - including Bach's authorship - but also show how little we know about the history of this magnificent movement. Even though there is little to refute the 1982 presumption that the work was handed down in the form of an arrangement, the question remains open concerning the identity of the arranger, as well as the alleged form of the original design. Therefore it seemed appropriate to forego any attempts at reconstruct-ion.
