Since an invitation to the Emerald Isle, Harald Genzmer (1909-2007) has been fascinated with the local tradition and culture. Therefore, after the songs 'Irische Harfe', he wrote another cycle for mixed choir at a ripe old age: 'Lieder einer Insel'. In three parts with ten choral settings altogether, the composer tells stories from the mythology of the Emerald Isle in the Irish poems, in the texts of old and modern lyricists, describes emotions, desires, laments: from 'Weissagung Cathbads' to 'Lobgesang der Gerechten', from the bright 'Monch und seinem Lieblingskater' to the sad lament 'Das Lied in einem Madchenherzen', from the tender 'Anrufung des Friedens' to the contemplate 'Abendgebet'. The freely tonal settings range from simple, chordal-homophonic via declamatory to expressive. Of intermediate difficulty, these choral miniatures are suitable not only for professional ensembles but also for ambitious amateur choirs.

This three-movement solo cantata can be performed in several ways. The cantata for the 20th Sunday after Trinity. Ah! I see now, as I to the wedding bidden, BWV 162 was first performed on 25 October 1716 in the Castle church at Weimar. During the first year in his position as Thomaskantor, Bach made a revival performance of the cantata on 10 October 1723. For this Leipzig version he added an additional obbligato voice in the first movement and in the final chorale he added a Corno da tirarsi, which played colla-parte with the soprano. However, we do not know what this mysterious instrument looked like. For performances today we recommend using a trumpet or a slide trumpet. The cantata begins not with an introductory chorus, but rather with a sonorous bass aria with a string accompaniment and obbligato trumpet. The following movements, movement 2 through 5, are also performed by vocal soloists. The third movement, a soprano aria, presents a peculiarity: the obbligato wind parts were not contained in the original version of this cantata. Our edition offers a reconstruction for the flute, made by the famous Bach interpreter and expert, Masaaki Suzuki. Score available separately - see item CA.3116200.

Jan Dismas Zelenka's Missa Sancti Josephi occupies a key position among his circa twenty large masses. In this mass, probably composed in 1732 for a feast of a Saint (thus, without a Credo), for the first time the composer took up the operatic style of Johann Adolf Hasse - the latter had first performed his opera Cleofide in Dresden in 1731. Zelenka's unmistakable individuality created a completely independent work with great technical demands which in many details presages the important masses among his late works. The sole source for the first edition of this mass, published here for the first time, is a considerably damaged autograph score which. It is preserved in the Sachsische Landes- und Universitatsbibliothek Dresden. For the Carus edition the experienced Zelenka scholar Wolfgang Horn has expertly reconstructed the missing passages. The opera “Naïs†was premiered on 22 April 1749 at the Acadmie royale in the Palais-Royal, Paris, in celebration of the signing of the so-called Treaty of Aachen. It was revived again in August 1764 shortly before Rameau’s death and achieved great success as the “opera of peace,†even though it did not appear in print during the composer’s lifetime.In numerous arias Rameau provides his singers ample opportunity to shine, while he reveals his orchestral mastery, in particular in the chaconne and the various other ballets.The work appears here for the first time in a vocal score with a keyboard reduction. The reduction is by François Saint-Yves on the basis of the new critical edition by Pascal Dencheau which is part of Opera Omnia Rameau edited by Sylvie Bouissou.This edition is the result of a meticulous comparison of all known musical sources. In the main section, it presents the version that Rameau approved for the performances of 1749. The appendix contains those passages that the composer cut during the rehearsals in 1749 and all changes that he undertook for the 1764 revival.
