Tenor Voice Solo (Chorsoli), SATB Choir, Piano (Org) SKU: CA.2110205 Composed by Juliette Marie Olga (Lili) Boulanger. Edited by Michael Alber. Sacred vocal music; use during church year: Christmas; occasions: Psalms. Sacred vocal music, Christmas, Psalms. Choral Score. LB 36. 12 pages. Duration 4 minutes. Carus Verlag #CV 21.102/05. Published by Carus Verlag (CA.2110205). ISBN 9790007187781. Language: French/English. First critical edition. Together with Debussy, Ravel, and Dukas, Lili Boulanger was one of the most important representatives of impressionism. Despite her short life of just 24 years, she developed a distinctive personal style, and composed a wide variety of works including songs, piano music, operatic scenes, and choral music, all with huge inventiveness. In 1916, in the middle of the First World War, the composer learnt that she was ill and had only a short time to live. Her deep religiosity gave rise to works including a setting of Psaume XXIV (Psalm 24). In the version published here for mixed choir, tenor solo, and piano/ organ, this is a particularly powerful setting of the psalm and an impressive work for inclusion in an Advent church service. The edition contains both the original French text, with a singable English translation underlaid. 2mixedCh-SATB (2Sg-S-solo,Sg-T-solo,Sg-B-solo,2MixedCh-SATB,Orch) SKU: BA.BA09188-90 Composed by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. Edited by Ulrich Leisinger. Arranged by Hans Schellevis. This edition: urtext edition. Paperback. Barenreiter Urtext. Classical. Vocal Score. KV 427. Baerenreiter Verlag #BA09188_90. Published by Baerenreiter Verlag (BA.BA09188-90). ISBN 9790006565108. 27 x 19 cm inches. Key: C minor. Text Language: Latin. Preface: Ulrich Leisinger. Mozart's magnificent unfinishedGreat Mass in C minor K. 427is impressive not only for its monumentality and musical beauty but for its fragmentary state which has fascinated scholars and performers for decades.
Working together with the International Mozarteum Foundation in Salzburg, Barenreiter now presents a new edition of this work, reflecting the cutting edge of scholarship while doing justice to the needs of performers.
High scholarly standards, the completion and reconstruction of movements: this pioneering publication incorporates all this in order to come as close as possible to the work itself: - TheKyrieandGloria, both of which survive complete in Mozart's hand, are edited in accordance with scholarly standards. - The first two sections of theCredohave been meticulously completed by the editor Ulrich Leisinger, drawing on original Mozart compositions e.g. the ariaDeh vieni non tardarfromThe Marriage of Figaroand paying attention to a stylistically appropriate and transparent sound. - TheSanctusandBenedictus(with theHosanna), which are either incomplete or survive only in secondary sources, have been reconstructed by the editor.
Sections without any known sources are left out in this edition. Rounding off the publication is an extensive Foreword (Ger/Eng).
The first performance of Ulrich Leisinger's new edition was given in April 2019 in the Elbphilharmonie Hamburg by the Hamburg State Philharmonic Orchestra and the ChorWerk Ruhr under the baton of Kent Nagano. The first Austrian premiere took place in Salzburg on August 2019 in the Great Hall of the Mozarteum, with Andrew Manze conducting the Salzburg Camerata to rousing applause from audience and critics alike.
The C-minor Mass reconstruction by Helmut Eder on the basis of the New Mozart Edition (BA 4846) is still available: the score and performance material are on hire, the vocal score is on sale.

Also Hat Gott Die Welt Geliebet. Sacred vocal music, Cantatas, Christmas. Set of Orchestra Parts. Composed 1708. Duration 19 minutes. Carus Verlag #CV 10.369/19. Published by Carus Verlag (CA.1036919). ISBN 9790007190569. Key: F major. Language: German/English. The Bach contemporary Christian August Jacobi is among those composers who made a lasting impression among 18th century Middle German composers, since the influence of the Thomaskantor himself was limited primarily to Leipzig. Jacobi's cantatas are richly varied and they not too difficult to perform. Five of the six movements of the Christmas cantata Also hat Gott die Welt geliebet for soli, choir, strings and basso continuo are based on Luther's Christmas chorale Vom Himmel hoch, da komm ich her, which give the work a traditional character (the text of the first movement is based on the Gospel of St. John). The richly varied instrumentation and alternation between choral movements and duets by the soloists bring to the sound of the cantata a variety which will also be enhanced by the use of the harp (ad libitum). ISBN 9790007244613. Key: C minor. Language: Latin. Johann Michael Haydn's Requiem in C minor heavily influenced W. A. Mozart's Requiem. In just two weeks Michael Haydn composed his work in December 1771, on the occasion of the death of his employer, Prince Bishop Sigismund Count Schrattenbach, who was beloved among the people and was a great patron of the arts. The work was written under the impression of personal tragedy: Haydn's only child, Aloisia Josepha, died in January 1771, before completing her first year of life. Parts of the Schrattenbach-Requiem were played together with the completed movements from his second, unfinished Requiem during his own furneral service. During the funeral service in Vienna for Joseph Haydn, parts of his younger brother's C-minor Requiem were also performed. Each succeeding verse develops the rhythmic and melodic material and the anthem concludes in energetic style. The vocal parts are moderate in range and the homophonic style makes the text clear to the listener. In 1892 Dvorak received a prestigious commission from New York to write a festive cantata to commemorate the 400th anniversary of Christopher Columbus's discovery of America. In response he wrote an impressive work in a very short space of time - his Te Deum, which expresses in celebratory style the old hymn of praise in four effective, contrasting sections. Language: Latin. Georg Philipp Telemann has long been perceived as a composer of sacred music, and particularly of the German-language church cantata. However, in the course of his long life he also composed church works setting Latin texts. In addition to works for smaller ensembles there is presently only one larger psalm setting, Deus judicium tuum, that is available in a new edition. This is now joined by the first ever scholarly, critical edition of his Magnificat in C major. Telemann probably composed this impressive work for the dedication of the organ in the Leipzig Neukirche in 1704. Like Bach's well-known Magnificat, it is scored for three trumpets and timpani. For ambitious church choirs, the work is really worthwhile, and is also a most effective piece for audiences to enjoy. Mendelssohn composed his first oratorio Paulus under the impression of his own revival of J. S. Bach's St. Matthew Passion in 1829. He integrated chorale settings into St. Paul, for which he was accused by his contemporaries of making a stylistic break, using an element unsuitable to church music. In spite of these reservations, during Mendelssohn's lifetime St. Paul was one of his most popular works, which received numerous performances throughout Europe. Robert Schuman praised the inextinguishable color of the instrumentation and the brilliant play with all the forms of composition. He described it as a jewel of the present.. SATB Choir SKU: BT.MUSM570368679 For choir and fixed media. Composed by Evis Sammoutis. Score Only. Composed 2019. 14 pages. University of York Music Press #MUSM570368679. Published by University of York Music Press (BT.MUSM570368679). Isthmus denotes a narrow strip of land with sea on either side, forming a link between two larger ars of land. The title is a metaphor for an effort to bond artistically my experiences of living in Cyprus, my birthplace, and in the USA, my recently adopted homeland. Having lived in a small, partitioned island for my formative years and in England for eleven years, water has always had a double meaning: it has at once served as a gateway to other cultures but also as a border, a violent and absolute interruption of a continuum. While in the USA, or indeed in a now connected Europe, it is possible to travel on land for days without having to encounter a border, in the countries where I lived for most of my life, that was not possible. As an artist, this notion of establishing boundaries and consciously trying to break them is very close to me, as my music deals both with modernity but also with tradition and, similarly, with metaphor and reality. As a Cypriot, the sea, the world of antiquity, the mysteries of the oracles, the notion of borders and the pastoral are all very central to my way of thinking. In Cyprus, different layers of history are frequently superimposed on a single building that might still preserve its Roman, Byzantine, Venetian and Ottoman features in its layers of stone and architecture. Similarly, ancient ruins or the barbed wire of modern conflict often interrupt placid fields. An isthmus, therefore, can be seen to symbolize my artistic struggle to join strikingly different experiences and notions in a cohesive way. Similar to an isthmus, in this short piece, I connect these experiences with the purpose of creating a distinct and unique sonic context, connecting technology and tradition, the pastoral with the urban, the musical with the extra-musical and the abstract with the concrete. For example, the choir does not always sing in the traditional sense, but the singers imitate various natural sounds, such as water, air, crickets or birds, to create a vivid visual impression for the work. Scandinavian herding calls blend with field recordings from the seas of Cyprus and the lakes of Upstate New York, communicated within clearly defined, singular acoustic sources and spaces through wireless speakers. The text used is both onomatopoeic, articulating an imaginary language, but also literal, with a setting of the poem, “To make a prairie” by the iconic American poet Emily Dickinson and a tiny fragment from Callimachus’ “Hymn to Demeter.” Technology is used sparsely and very intentionally to articulate the expressive qualities of pastoral imagery, creating one unified synthetic timbre with the choristers’ sounds. This piece is dedicated to the wonderful singers of the Georgia Institute of Technology Chamber Choir with special thanks to Professors Hsu and Ulrich, without whose support this composition would not have been possible. Practical notes: A choir of no less than 24 singers is sought with 4 additional soloists (2 Sopranos and 2 Altos). Each singer must have their own wireless speaker, secured either in the music folder or as a strap inside their shirts. All sounds must match in volume the sound from the speakers, creating one unified timbre. The speakers should not be noticeable to the public. The four soloists are placed offstage at the beginning of the work. From 1:35’ onwards they enter the hall and take their positions, ideally at the four corners of the hall. If the hall is too large, the singers can find alternate positions, but these should always be antiphonal. The four soloists sing predominantly in the “kulning” style and the antiphonal aspect is very important to the work. There are two sound files for each section (SATB) that are triggered by each singer’s mobile device. The first occurs at the start of the piece, and the second, about a minute before the end. The sound files are able to be purchased separately, on CD, or are available directly from UYMP. $5.95 - See more - Buy onlinePre-shipment lead time: 4 to 6 weeks | | |
