Kolar. Mass. Sacred. Octavo. With guitar chord names. 64 pages. GIA Publications #10297. Published by GIA Publications (GI.G-10297). UPC: 785147029717. English, Spanish. Text Source: Revised Order of Mass 2010, Lectionary for Mass. Misal Romano, tercera edición A versatile Mass setting for use throughout the liturgical year, Mass of the Sun of Justice / Misa Sol de Justicia is fully bilingual, singable entirely in English or in Spanish, or any pastoral combination of both languages. At its core, this setting is built on assembly-minded melodies. Much of the choral writing is two-part, albeit spelled out in four voices, whereby the basses frequently double the soprano melody, and the alto and tenor lines essentially share a single harmony in their respective ranges, splitting only at cadence points for a fuller effect. Optional descants and divisi further expand the voicing possibilities. The additional instrumentation is particularly spirited, further enhancing these sung texts for solemn occasions. “Sun of justice†is a term used to reference Christ with respect to his second coming, as found in the ancient “O†antiphons. This title appears in the Lectionary among the Alleluia options for the common of the Blessed Virgin Mary, and is, in fact, assigned to the feast of Our Lady of Guadalupe, celebrated within the Advent season. As such, the music is “Advent-like†in nature—joyful and filled with hope. ~~~~~ Preview select songs from this mass setting in the video below:. $7.65 - See more - Buy onlinePre-shipment lead time: 1 to 2 weeks

ISBN 9790007210236. Language: German/English. The cantata Nun danket alle Gott (Now thank we all our God) BWV 192 is based on the text of the well-known hymn. It is therefore one of a small number of chorale cantatas which contain no free poetic texts. Correspondingly, there are no recitatives either. It has only recently been assumed that this three-movement work was not intended for Leipzig, but was actually written in 1730 for Bach's prestigious position as Kapellmeister of Saxe-Weissenfels. The court of Duke Christian enjoyed the its sojourn in the newly-renovated castle of its secondary residence in Sangerhausen and, at Trinity, in the court church, celebrated the anniversary of its consecration with festive music. Bach evidently occasionally contributed to this. The work does not survive complete. Even in the 18th century a full score evidently no longer existed, just a set of parts, the tenor part of which is entirely missing. For the new edition the missing part has been reconstructed by Detlev Schulten (Leipzig). Key: A major. Original. I composed Sing with Me during the summer of 2020 as my own personal response to the relentless series of heartaches that we faced: the uncertainty of the COVID-19 pandemic, the anguish of not being able to sing together and the rise of social justice crises across the country. It is the first piece for which I have also written the text. At the time, I was unsure of what the fall semester would look like for my own choir. Would we be in person? If so, for how long? Therefore, I designed the piece to be accessible and adaptable to whatever situation we faced. It is my wish that the message of hope and unity will resonate with all who sing or hear it.Sing with me, as I sing with you,Let the music revive us anew;Yearning for beautiful harmony,Come and sing with me. All the world is longing for peace,For all meaningless hatred to cease;Joining together, your hand in mine,Let our voices shine! Dream with us, together as one,For the day when the battle is done;Fervently striving for unity,Come and dream with me.Come and sing with me. . $2.25 - See more - Buy onlinePre-shipment lead time: 1 to 2 weeks

SSATB Choir, Piano - Level 3 SKU: CA.925000 Composed by Henri Duparc. Arranged by Denis Rouger. Separate edition to the CD. Lieder, Secular choral music. Full Score. Duration 5 minutes. Carus Verlag #CV 09.250/00. Published by Carus Verlag (CA.925000). ISBN M-007-24902-1. Key: E flat major. Language: French. Text: Baudelaire, Charles. The harmonic turns and piano configurations in La vie anterieure - the former life - seem almost exuberantly lyrical. At the beginning, the archaic sounds and words of the male choir conjure up a dream world that is soon flooded with the power of the waves and the rich polyphonic harmony of the choir and the piano. With the outcry C'est la que j'ai vecu! [I have lived there] which expresses the fervent yearning to return to a past life, the collective desperately reinforces the longing for the past. Once more, the women's choir conjures up this lost paradise in an undulating soft sound before the desolate sadness is pierced by the power of the music of the piano postlude, creating a moment that is completely in the present. $4.95 - See more - Buy onlinePre-shipment lead time: 2 to 3 weeks

SSATB vocal soli, SSATB choir, orchestra SKU: CA.2731809 Composed by Heinrich Ignaz Franz von Biber. Edited by Armin Kircher. Duration 28 minutes. Carus Verlag #CV 27.318/09. Published by Carus Verlag (CA.2731809). ISBN 9790007201852. Key: F minor. Text language: Latin. Biber's Requiem in F minor is amongst the most impressive settings of the Requiem Mass of the 17th century. The exact reason for the composition of the Requiem, which can be dated to 1692, is not known. The dark key color of F minor is emphasized by the instrumental scoring for two violins, three violas, basso continuo and three trombones (colla parte with the chorus). The vivid language of the Requiem text offered Biber a wealth of possibilities for expressive, musical interpretation. The intensity of the musical language used to portray lamenting and mourning is impressive. In the course of publication of the Biber Requiem, surprisingly the primary source, which until now had been thought to be missing, resurfaced and the edition could be prepared based on this astonishing discovery. This is a work of mid-level difficulty for a choir and with the clear disposition of the string parts it is well suited for performance by amateur choirs. Published by Carus Verlag (CA.5408709). Language: Latin. Michael Haydn composed three of his masses in honor of the holy archangels - St Michael, St Gabriel, and the Raphaelismesse in honor of St Raphael now published. By avoiding the use of vocal soloists, it is one of the genre of Missa in pieno. Four trumpets and two ad lib oboe parts added later by the composer give the work a festive sound in the baroque tradition. At the same time, elements of the 'sensitive style' feature too. The Gloria and Credo exist in two settings, a short version with polytextual passages and a longer version arranged by Haydn himself. The Carus edition, based on authentic performance material in St. Peter's Monastery in Salzburg, contains both versions, with the longer version published here for the first time. Language: German/English. The cantata Argre dich, o Seele, nicht BWV 186 is in a sense the companion work to the much better-known cantata Herz und Mund und Tat und Leben BWV 147. Both were composed in Advent 1716 as Bach's last two cantatas for the Weimar court, and both were arranged for another Sunday in Bach's first Leipzig cantata cycle by the addition of recitatives and a large-scale chorale movement, heard at the end of both parts. The sound of the Cantata BWV 186 is characterized by the four-part woodwind ensemble writing. The final chorale, heard twice, anticipates the opening choruses of the chorale cantatas from Bach's second cycle. Cantata BWV 186 for the 7th Sunday after Trinity is a considerably expanded reworking of a Weimar Advent cantata of 1716. Only the text survives of the Advent cantata, but Diethard Hellmann has been able to reconstruct the work from the later version (Carus 31.186). Language: Latin. Puccini's first known sacred work was composed during his school days at the Istituto Pacini in Lucca. It was first performed there in 1877. The text was a hymn to the Patron Saint of Lucca which was probably written by the composer himself. The work was so popular that by 1880 it had received three further performances, though it was also inserted in the Messa a 4 voci, after the Credo. Thereafter it disappeared from the music world and was only first rediscovered in the 1990s. Since, with the exception of the lack of a solo tenor in the piece, it is identical with this one in the Messa, for this reason it would seem only natural to perform these two works together. Text language: German/English. The cantata dates from Bach's time in Weimar. The instrumental scoring of four violas and basso continuo - in the Leipzig performances enhanced by two recorders doubling viola I and II at the octave - is unique in Bach's cantata oeuvre. It lends a dark, luxurious sound to the four movements which is gently illuminated by the recorders. The work - with its instrumental sinfonia, a short secco recitative and an extended accompagnato recitative (both of which contain arioso inserts), a short soprano aria and a simple closing chorale - makes no great demands on the performing forces. Admirers of text interpretation by means of instrumental figuration will be richly rewarded. It has been unjustly neglected as it was overshadowed by the Cantata BWV 69 of the same name, a piece which Bach reworked to celebrate the inauguration of Leipzig Town Council in 1748. On that occasion Bach re-used the parts from 1723 for simplicity, and adapted them for the new use by means of cuts, alterations, and additions - something which certainly did not mean that he rejected the 1723 version. This version can readily be recovered from the parts of 1723, if we explore beyond the alterations of 1748. With its rich wind instruments and great opening chorus, the 1723 cantata is in no way inferior to the later festive music in terms of musical splendor. The text takes the Gospel reading about the healing of the deaf and dumb man as a reason for praise and thanks for God's good deeds. In contrast to the later version, in which God is thanked for the wisdom of the Leipzig authorities, the original version of 1723 is free of such contemporary references, and is suitable for use in worship and concerts in many different ways. Text language: German/English. The cantata Erforsche mich Gott und erfahre mein Herz BWV 136 was composed in Bach's first year as Kantor of St. Thomas's in Leipzig and was first performed on the 8th Sunday after Trinity, the 18th July 1723. The librettist is unknown. The title of the cantata is taken from verse 23 of Psalm 139: Erforsche mich Gott und erfahre mein Herz; prufe mich und erfahre, wie ich's meine. (Search me, O God, and know my heart: try me, and know my thoughts) The opening chorus forms an extended fugue, framed by string writing bursting with energy. The obbligato horn accentuates and enriches the movement with a special tonal color. The alto aria in F sharp minor (movement 3) comprises a trio movement with an oboe d'amore as solo instrument in a contrasting range - a presto middle section which dramatically charges the words Denn seines Eifers Grimm vernichtet (For the fury of its zeal will destroy). In the duet (movement 5) the text is sung by tenor and bass line by line, sometimes imitating contrapuntally, and sometimes both singing together dramatically in homophonic writing. A simple chorale setting to the melody Auf meinen lieben Gott concludes the cantata. Particularly charming here is the violin which joins the four vocal parts as an independent part. Language: German/English. This six-movement cantata was performed for the first time on 26 August 1725 in Leipzig. The text was written by Bach's Weimar cantata poet Salomon Franck and had been published earlier in 1715 in his collection Evangelisches Andachts-Opffer. Here, Bach bases his work around the form of the Weimar cantatas which take their texts from Franck's printed collection (BWV 132, 152, 161-163, 165): movements 1-5 are performed by vocal soloists, whilst only the final chorus is given to the chorus. The key concepts of the text are Barmherzigkeit [compassion], Erbarmen [mercy] and wahre Christenliebe [true Christian love]; the chamber music arrangement of the cantata corresponds with this. The two arias for tenor and alto, and the duet for soprano and bass do not contain da capo sections, but repeat the entire text in a condensed form. The instruments do not contrast as a rule, but are treated as a string group (movements 1, 4), duetting (movement 3), and as full unison (movement 5). What is remarkable in all three movements is the thematic linking of the instrumental ritornello parts with the vocal parts through which Bach achieves a kind of unity of form. Gott ist unsre Zuversicht BWV 197 was probably written in the second half of the 1730s for a wedding, no further details of which are known. In the opening chorus in particular, it features quite a sizeable orchestra. The text of the cantata has one major theme - trust in God! In a magnificent lullaby (movement 3) all cares are sung to sleep. The other arias, with their exceptionally exquisite combinations of scorings, make the cantata into a quite special work, albeit one which is associated with a particular occasion. The wedding cantata BWV 197 draws on older material for some of its movements. Two movements are parodies on arias from the incomplete surviving Christmas cantata Ehre sei Gott in der Hohe, BWV 197a, including the lullaby O du angenehmes Paar, of which only the last quarter survives from the Christmas cantata - it is O du angenehmer Schatz there. By using the later version, Diethard Hellmann has been able to reconstruct the original version of this dreamlike beautiful movement; however, the complete Christmas cantata cannot be reconstructed from the sources. Language: German/English. Text: Fritsch, Ahasverus. This six-movement cantata uses the hymn of the same name by Ahasverus Fritsch, first recorded in 1698 in the Darmstadter Liederbuch. This places it amongst those chorale cantatas which use a hymn from the repertoire associated with Pietism. As was customary, the hymn text is retained in the outer movements, whereas the text for the inner movements - two secco recitatives and a tenor and a bass aria - are concerned with the contrast between the hostile world and the certainty of Jesus; the links between the cantata text and the Feast of the Epiphany are correspondingly tenuous. In the first movement the soprano sings the hymn melody complete, accompanied by mainly homophonic vocal parts, whilst the instrumental writing is largely influenced by the melody of the first line of the hymn. Remarkable is the tenor aria, with its contrasting central section and its chromatic twists and turns, in which Bach once again proves himself to be a master of harmony. The demands on the chorus are fairly modest, whereas the instrumentalists are challenged in the first movement and in both the arias. The cantata Ich habe meine Zuversicht BWV 188 comes from the so-called Picander cycle and was written for the 21st Sunday after Trinity in 1728 or 1729. There are some particular problems associated with its transmission. The original set of parts was lost, and the manuscript score only survives in fragmentary form. Probably as early as the 18th century the score was divided up into numerous separate parts in order to make more money, or to be able to provide as many Bach relics as possible for posterity. The first movement, an instrumental sinfonia, is missing apart from the final bars. We simply know that this sinfonia is based on the 3rd movement of the Harpsichord Concerto BWV 1052 in D minor and that instead of the harpsichord, an obbligato organ was envisaged. Its successful reconstruction by the baroque specialist and organist Pieter Dirksen now makes it possible to perform the cantata again complete with the introductory sinfonia. Rudy always creates ear-catching yet convincing musical twists in his works, as you will hear in this piece. Verses 1 and 2 are slightly syncopated in contrast to the refrain, while verse 3 calls for the choir to hum under the cantor's proclamation as a vocal descant echoes above. The optional final refrain can be performed as a canon at four-, two-, or one-measure intervals. ISBN 9790007242060. Language: English/German. Text: Eschenburg, J. J. / Loy, Felix. First critical edition. The oratorio Judas Maccabaeus is one of George Frideric Handel's most popular choral works. It was performed over fifty times during the composer's lifetime and was one of his first works to be performed in Germany (1772). The frequent performances given by Handel himself resulted in a particularly large number of reworkings, reflecting local conditions. This new edition therefore offers the work in two performable versions: firstly, the version of the first performance in 1747, and the one from the last oratorio season during Handel's lifetime (1758/59). This makes available all the choruses and arias which Handel ever wrote for Judas Maccabaeus. Reflecting the latest Handel research, the edition is based for the first time throughout on Handel's conductor's score, thereby eradicating not only long-perpetuated mistakes, but also providing clarity about which pieces were actually performed by Handel. By contrast with the Chrysander edition obligatory until now, the aria Father of heav'n which introduces Part III is included here in its original, longer version. Text: Schutz, Johann Jakob. Text: Johann Jakob Schutz. The cantata Sei Lob und Ehr dem hochsten Gut (All glory to the Lord of Lords) BWV 117 is one of a small group of Bach's chorale cantatas which use exclusively the text of the chorale, including in the three recitatives and three arias. Only the autograph score of the cantata survives; although this enables an approximate dating to be made (c. 1730), it does not give the occasion for which the cantata was written. The choice of chorale may indicate it was composed for a wedding. Recently it has been suggested that the occasion for its composition was the birthday of the Duke of Weissenfels in 1731; but there is no firm evidence to support either theory. The cantata opens with an extended movement for chorus in which Bach contrasts the concertante orchestra with festive, almost homophonic choral writing. This chorus movement is repeated at the end. A simple chorale movement which comes fourth indicates that the nine-movement cantata was performed in two sections.
