Volume II of the collected edition of the choral works of Veress contains seven Hungarian folksong cycles or cantatas, a choral poem in Hungarian and a choral cycle in English. In his first creative period (1929-1939), which he spent in Hungary, Sandor Veress's direct involvement in Hungarian folk music research played a decisive part: his folksong experience gained through personal collecting work found expression in his first period of composition for mixed choir. In the course of the 1960s, after his emigration, he returned on two occasions to the a cappella mixed choir genre: in 1962 he wrote a piece for mixed choir to mark the 60th birthday of the great Hungarian poet Gyula Illyes (Oda Europahoz - Ode to Europe, based on the poem by Illyes), and in 1967, at the request of the Australian Radio Company, he composed for the 'Adelaide Singers' chamber choir Songs of the Seasons, a seven-movement madrigal cycle making exceptional demands on the performers, to verses by the Australian poet Christopher Brennan (1870-1932).

Dove Award winning songwriters Joel Lindsey and Jeff Bumgardner, with Dove Award winning arranger/ orchestrator Daniel Semsen, have, once again, brought to life an astoundingly appealing new musical for Christmas, Love Was Born a King. With a slew of critically acclaimed dramatic musicals for Christmas under their belt, this highly awarded creative team has done it again, this time with a twist! Their newest offering, Love Was Born a King, is actually 2 musicals in one! Fully developed as a dramatic musical in the vein of their previous successes (How to Have the Best Christmas Ever, An Unexpected Christmas, Welcome to Bethlehem, Under a Starry Sky), Love Was Born a King certainly doesn’t disappoint those in search of their next, new, dramatic musical. For others, who love the music heard in those previously released musicals but aren’t looking for a dramatic musical, Joel and Jeff have delivered an amazing choir with narrator musical option that fully utilizes all the songs found in the drama version… literally, 2 musicals in 1! The option with drama deals poignantly and sensitively with the plight of the homeless, drawing on the responsibility of God’s people to minister and care for those in need. And in the course of helping others, finding that we just might find ourselves being ministered to in the process! If instead you’re looking for a choir with narrator option, you’ll discover the same brilliantly written songs wrapped in a beautifully expressed narrative highlighting the traditional Christmas story focusing on the power and beauty of God’s Love come down to earth, manifested in the birth of the Christ Child.

This stand-alone arrangement was excerpted from the final section of the larger work Christmas Flourish [RBM-103]. The setting is begins in a restrained, but martial, fashion and becomes fuller and more exuberant over the course of its 4-minute duration. As it concludes majestically with great orchestral flourish and fervor, this music is most useful when presented as Holiday concert finale. Duration: 4:00″.

This uplifting prayer for peace is an anthem setting of Thomas Cranmer's Collect for the Second Sunday after Epiphany. And perhaps in the spirit of the day's epistle - an exhortation from Romans 12 to practise those gifts received through grace - the composer offers here a beautiful account of his choral idiom: a matter of precisely imagined textures, as sensitive to individual line and contour as to the seamless dovetailing of motifs and harmony, and of majestic, purposefully cadenced phrases in affective unity with the sense and breathing of the text. Written for the 2011 Liturgical Music Course and premiered in Winchester Cathedral, Almighty and Everlasting God is well within the standard of capable church choirs, and offers an absorbing and memorable enhancement of reverence in worship for a variety of occasions.

This motet, no matter how popular it is, presents Bach scholars with a few puzzles: is it really by Bach? Somehow the text doesn't fit with the notes, at least not so that it's comfortable to sing. And is the musicologists' problem the same for the choral singers? Not, of course not in the Alleluia fugue: in that, there really is something to worry about ... year of composition unknown. Score available separately - see item CA.3123000.

Peter Schindler's full-length secular choral work Sonne, Mond und Sterne (Sun, Moon and Stars) narrates a love story based on old texts which are given a new interpretation through these musical settings. Some individual numbers were published in spring, and now more movements with piano accompaniment are available in print and digitally.- choral work of medium difficulty- will appeal to experienced Brahms Requiem singers as well as ambitious chamber or youth choirs with a gospel, pop or jazz background-cross-over between jazz, chanson, and chamber music Peter Schindler about O Ewigkeit:We step on the stage of life, pull the curtains wide open and venture a glance at the eternal course of the stars. A powerful choral tutti sounds, the key note of C held on in the basses emphasizes the steadfastness of eternity, and above this is chromatic movement in the upper voices which produces friction. In the following softer central section, female and male voices sing separately. They sing in characteristic Gregorian style in vivid images of the immeasurable sand in the ocean, of tears and trickles, of the great beginning and the end of the cosmos. The verses from 1625 convey an image of astonishment, of seeking and not least also of comfort. The text functions as a framework, as it is repeated in a shortened form in the last number of Sonne, Mond und Sterne. It encapsulates the many life situations which are sketched and sung about in the staged cantata in metaphysical questions.

The choir chants the question about what Welt (the world) actually is. Hectic bustle is expressed through a pulsing basic motif. This is repeated constantly and moves through the parts. A lyrical B flat minor in the central section allows us to float like shadows on the way into a dream. The song text is a collage. The first verse, by the Baroque poet Christian Hoffmann von Hoffmannswaldau, is concerned with the vanitas motif: the world, and everything which seems beautiful to us, is ephemeral. The second and third verses were written in the 18th century by Johann Gottfried Herder. Here, the poet expounds the view that real life does not take place in the world and that people's mathematical abilities are insufficient to measure space and time.
